  1. That sits at the top of my list as well. Preferably in a vehicle I own, Indiana built, and from the 1800’s. Options are limited but do exist. Also on the bucket list is to have a 2cyl, 4cyl, 6cyl, and 12 cyl at the same time…. And all brass era. Options slightly less limited than the previous. do the entirety of US 40 and RT 66 in vehicles that predate either. Use a prewar car for daily transportation: Indiana winters, salted roads, and all.
  2. If I am reading the master parts book correctly it does seem like a change for the slower occurred in the 24 production. An earlier ring and pinion would fit and high speed ones have been made.
  3. The drill technique has worked well for me…. Especially for reassembly.
  4. Take this as you will but I find myself equally immersed in the car hobby both before and after marriage…. Not so much during.
  5. I don’t feel much of a need for this product, but curiosity is going to make me check the ID of a 40 S&W case against a valve stem the next time I go shooting.
  6. Things like this happen fairly often, I once realized in the grocery store checkout lane that the 3.99 brisket I made a trip for rang up at .39. I pointed it out to the cashier, put the beef in my truck, and went back in for a couple more. Last week an online outdoor store had 223 ammo at nearly half price at the 400 qty only. 400 rounds was way cheaper than 300 and it was up for several hours. They didn’t honor large orders but sent you some at that price. Human error happens. Each individual can decide if they take advantage of the deal or go across the street to pay more.
  7. We traded our way into a 13 model 32 and kept it just long enough to get it sorted enough to drive around a little. They are wonderful little cars: quick, enough speed for touring with similar vintage cars, but you will not be one of the fast guys on the tour, a wonderful ride for the era, a pretty forgiving gearbox…. They would be on my list for a car to keep around and enjoy as a cheap “brass” car to bum around in… you know, if dodges that fit that role didn’t exist.
  8. I plan to have the 15 there, but am wanting to start accumulating everything it will someday need. It’s going to stay unrestored for several years though. I thought the 16 would be a parts donor but I cannot bring myself to do it to a decent car. It is in the process of getting new exhaust valves from an ‘18 engine I was given for free and then we will see if it wants to be a car again…. Well, I suspect I will find it wanting in a few other areas.
  9. I would like to find better front fenders for my 1915, I believe repairing my rear fenders is inside my skill set but better metal to work with wouldn’t bother me if affordable. I am also looking for: a drivers side rear door for same. For the may of 1916 car I am after speedometer and a vacuum tank. I have zero pieces of the vacuum fuel system, incorrect similar parts acceptable for getting this car back on the road. I have early parts for trade or will buy if I am capable. located in Lafayette, IN. Will go to Hershey this fall and likely a few other events before then.
  10. I am getting anywhere from 3-7/8 to 4-3/8 from button center to button center across the top row with not a lot of symmetry.
  11. I suppose it is a relevant reminder. If purging anything obscure or old, make sure the AACA library has one before you let yours go for nothing or close to that.

  13. We always have several old car club magazines on the table at Hershey, I charge a quarter and accept exchanges. Sometimes I get a publication I have never seen, sometimes a neighbor shows up every 30-90 minutes to swap the one he just finished out for one he hadn’t read yet. It’s as much about giving me something to read if it gets slow as anything. Free to kids always.
  14. This varies greatly by state. I recently purchased a car last sold (and never registered for the road) in the sixties in a state that didn’t title cars until the 70’s. That state also makes getting a title a chore requiring a bond and requiring you to wait three years after the bond is issued to get a transferable title (along with your bond back), something the seller didn’t want to do. Fortunately my state accepted a bill of sale and a police inspection saying that no red flags showed up from the five digit serial number. What numbers showed up on early titles and registrations varied as well. Some states wanted a serial number, some an engine number, sometimes that is the same number, sometimes it is not. Sometimes an engine gets replaced and now you have nothing on the car that matches the title. Sometimes a car titled on the serial number was stolen and titled by the new “owner” on the engine number. The modern VIN system is not a bad thing.

I am in Indiana where it is a fairly straightforward process although often time consuming, with there always being the possibility that you lose the car you just purchased (if the VIN comes up stolen). Unless fairly certain of the ownership history and that no surprises will come up when the state police or bmv start checking numbers off the car, a vehicle without a title should be avoided virtually anywhere. A quick google that took me to the New Jersey bmv webpage that does make it sound possible in that state, but they seem to be very specific about what information needs to be on the bill of sale.
  16. I actually love it, the lack of fit and finish doesn’t bother me at all at the price…. But I am making no plans to go get it. If I had about three less cars than I do now and felt like I could handle a daily driver that needs time put into it… different story.

  21. @SANDOW 3Makes speaks the truth here. There are ver helpful guys here that can give you real help if they happen to be local. I am a young guy in this hobby and I let the really young guys in this hobby play with my cars any time. I just picked up a vehicle of the vintage you are after that an 18 year old that wanted to join the best hobby on earth could become the owner of on sweat equity and zero dollars. Work on mine while you work on yours, I will provide guidance, buy materials and parts for both… on the back side: I got cheap labor, you got a restoration education and a car. I don’t know any 18 year olds near me that would do the work.
  22. So sorry for your loss. It happened to me in 2006, the little two car garage had my dads first car in it as well as being the space that was my livelihood at the time. I would have rather lost the house. Very glad all people were spared.
