  1. I'm with McGuire. Even rear springs scare the hell out of me. Took me 2 days. (I usually take the flat rate manual and multiply the estimated time by 10...that's how long it will take for me to complete the job!) I'd rather pay someone to do that. Their worker's comp is surely better than my health insurance (or worst case, life insurance). 54BuickDoc....LOVE your story too!
  2. Looks like a cool car. Can I drive her home? Looks like it just needs a little minor work...
  3. Your oil barrels look nicer than my cars. :p:p:p
  4. WOW. A few years ago, I got about $2500 + parts $$ for 1 that had virtually no floors, but otherwise fairly solid. Engine ran (needed rebuilt due to being gummed up) and it had all new brakes. Have prices dropped that much? I was so sad, that I bought it, worked on it and sold it but never got to drive it. (needed a fuel pump (and a floor!) when I sold it)
  5. They certainly don't SWEAT HORSEPOWER like Buicks! Did British Leyland build the Corvair. ;)
  6. Glad your up and running. Sounds like the fuel filter definitely needed changing anyway! This thread reminding me to go change mine in my '69 225.
  7. GRRR. I'm one state away and mine hasn't shown up yet!
  8. Another thing to keep in mind, especially if you aren't using a car cover is to ask if the sprinkler system is going to run. I parked in Columbus a few years ago for the Arthritis Classic and came out in the morning to thousands of hard water spots that were not easy to remove. I also recommend removing the distributor-coil wire. Easiest anti-theft out there.
  9. Anyone have issues with getting "collector car insurance" due to their driving record? The don't seem to want to touch anyone with more than a single violation over the past 5 years. That is why mine are all with 21st Century....
  10. Got a few parts that I can't identify. first pic. Marked PLYAC (Plymouth?) Looks like a '40s trunk ornament. P/N 1244780 second pic. grill ornament? P/N 25655 ? third. P/N 23064-R.H. Tail light? to what? fourth. Chevy P/N 3987004 Hood Ornament? Year? fifth. only marked 140L. Windshield wiper? For what? Last. Green Horn Button. unmarked except for crest. Put your thinking caps on. I know you guys are good! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I've also found in my stash the following: '68-'69 Mustang left wiper linkage '58 Chevy Trunk Emblem (no lens) '50 Ford Hood Ornament (No plastic) '63 Impala Hood Ornament (almost no color) '59-'60 Desoto Horn Rim '66 Mustang Tail light frames (no lenses) 3 assorted unmarked headlight rings 2 assorted unmarked lens frames 1 armrest Pair of International "Signal-Stats" 7-171 Pair of Cox 2 sided Marker lamps (1936 patent date) All are available to anyone intersted. Just make me an offer!
  11. Got the gas tank back today. I have found 1 pin hole. near the rolled edge, but looks fixable. 3 questions: 1. Is this an original tank (with some obvious repairs on the outlet?) B. Do you recommend JB Weld or Solder to seal the pin hole? Z. What do you recommend I use for paint? Want something fairly gasoline resistant. Were they painted black to begin with? Would POR-15 or something similar provide some additional leak protection or just prep, prime and paint? Tried to get a picture of the pin hole, but my camera isn't that good.... Also added a picture of the gas cap after a bit of polishing. Thanks!
  12. The bidder might have just wanted to know the reserve. I see that all the time. The top bid was only $266 more than my estimate in post #9. Good luck with your relist....Ebay is full of troublemakers. I don't think they realize or care how much money they cost you when they do this type of thing....
  13. I was waiting for you to chime in Ted. Lower than I though...you're going to have to work on that!
  14. Love the idea of the two tone interior. Not sure how that red/black/creme will go with the green exterior though! Anything but resale red though, unless that was the original color. I have forgotten....
  15. Only other college like it in the country is in Cleveland, Ohio from what I understand.
  16. Let's See I think I am at 69, that's including the 2 spare engines....
  17. I would SOOO Love to see the Wildcat II in person! Better double security if it is on site!
  18. Buick Lacrosse. the Impala is the Ford Taurus of it's day. just too common IMO. Best Value? Hyundai Sonata. Great quality too. 2nd or third behind Ford.
  19. The little brass arm facing down on the screen is the shutoff. Can't see it in action, but it does work.
  20. Here's the filter. It is unmarked. It screws into threads that appear to have been soldered into the base of the gas tank, probably in place of the original? It's similar to a '50's bowl filter, but the top has the mesh filter installed. Can't figure out exactly how. Looks like one piece to me. The brass arm is the shutoff. I am not sure what the original is supposed to look like.
  21. Thanks Guys. I'm hoping to get the call from American Metal Cleaning today or tomorrow saying it is complete. Inspecting the sediment bulb, it's a really neat design. Metal filter on top that inserts into the tank is in good condition. Shutoff appears to work fine. There is a small screen inside the bowl as well to prevent the sediment from flowing back out of the bowl if it does make it through. Only thing I don't like is that the bowl is plastic and hard to see through. I'll have to check and see if I have a glass bowl that will fit. I did replace an oversize rubber gasket with one that fits. Hopefully, the filter did it's job and the carb is clean. I know if was running when I bought it and if I agitated the tank, I probably could have gotten enough gas to it, but it obviously needed cleaned out, so I'm glad I did it. I can't wait....we've got 10 days of 70 and sunny in the forecast. I need to get her on the road and ready for the first car show of the season on 4/25!
  22. I went and bought a gas pump today and lo and behold...there were studebaker signs in the garage. I asked what was under the tarp and the response, " and Avanti, the turbo charged one with no grille". I knew what I was about to see then! I was able to take one picture of the front with my wife's cell phone. I will try to figure out how to post it here. I emailed this thread to the owner. Hopefully, he will chime in. What a small world!
  23. I know there is more to their job than what is shown in the show, but they must work really hard and a lot of hours to pay the bills. They spend what looks like 3-4 hours somewhere and walk out happy that they bought 1 item and will make $50 on it? I can't figure out how they pay for hotels at night, much less put gas in that giant Mercedes van (10mpg?) In the last episode they bought a bunch of pottery for $1000 and flipped it the next day for I think $1300? Sure, it's a quick $300, but they sure didn't seem to try to get much. I think they could be better business men. I too thought he was crazy for going after that Plymouth, but I do love Mike's VW!
