  1. I agree with Derek...I always use Collector Car & Truck Market. They seem to have the lowest valuations....that way I figure it's hard to get hurt. Everyone else seems to incorporate the auction sales, which distort the valuation for "driver" quality cars.
  2. SMS will also sell you the cardboard, but it might not be in their catalog...just ask for it.
  3. Oldest book I have is a 1960 body parts book. It does not list windshields for the 41 and 43 series...only the 40, then assorted 50 and 70 series. Sorry.
  4. Welcome aboard! That's an awfully nice looking "driver"!
  5. It is increasingly annoying. This problem didn't exist a few months ago. "drop shipping" is what it's called I believe...these sellers don't even own any inventory, they just list it for sale. I can't imagine how many people searching for parts for their antique cars would actually buy any of this crap. Buy it now listings are stupid cheap...like 3 cents each or less for those who have a "store", but still I find it difficult to believe they can make money doing this. Thanks for the how to on eliminating the sellers!
  6. Please make sure the first thing you do is get rid of that silly gas pedal! (unless of course, you installed it, in which case it looks fantastic!)
  7. $9.88? Is there some significance to that number?
  8. Congrats! Looks like a great car for the price! Keep those stories and pictures coming!
  9. I'm sure enforcement varies from locale to locale, just like any other infraction. The cops focus on what they are told to focus on, plus some guys are just more lenient than others, especially on non-dangerous violations. Honestly, why bother a guy who just happens to take his collector car to work on a nice day when you can bust some idiot for reckless operation. These days however, with budgets tight......a lot of departments are issuing tickets for things they never would have before. I drive my cars more than I should, but I also drive them a lot as "tests". changed the oil, rotated the tires, to and from the car wash or parts store, etc....plus there's always a car show or cruise in somewhere! (I keep my Show and Shine calendar close by) I even put collector plates on my '68 travel trailer. The lady at the DMV looked at me like I was crazy......"you know you can only use those to show the vehicle, right?" I said "yes, I'm going to tow it to a trailer park, park it, then SHOW it!"
  10. Take a good sample to a paint shop and have them custom match some SEM vinyl paint for you. Pick up some cleaner and prep and do it yourself! This should cost you less than $50-$75 total. If by some chance you aren't happy with the results, you can always pay the big boys. I've done touch ups with SEM before and it is great stuff.
  11. enough with the engine, I was hoping for pictures of that lunch!
  12. Probably cheaper than chroming that paint can top!
  13. My '69 Electra says "Electra 225 by Buick" on the trunk badge...
  14. Here's one pic...the rest must be on the other computer...I'll upload more later.
  15. That's GREAT...since it is a 1922 "T"! Thanks....I will try to post pictures soon.
  16. Can anyone tell me the age of my engine from the number? 6208950 I'm trying to figure out if it is the original. Also, the head has Made in USA forged into it. Is that original? Any numbers on the head, axle or body to look for to determine originality or date of manufacture? The car has been assigned a "new" Vin by the DOT.
  17. Took the kids for ice cream. I seem to be lacking power in high gear? I can get lots of power out of low, but when I switch to high, it doesn't seem to matter whether the throttle is 1/4 open or wide open...same power either way? I've tried fiddling with the carb adjustment, but no change. Does it sound like a dirty carb?
  18. What is that white convertible? That is drop dead gorgeous!
  19. The one with the bags of concrete actually would work. If you leave quickrete out and let the bag get wet, it solidifies....... However, there sure seems like there would be a cheaper way?
  20. Thank you Senator Jon Tester. Search Results - THOMAS (Library of Congress) Resolved, That the Senate-- (1) designates July 9, 2010, as `Collector Car Appreciation Day'; (2) recognizes that the collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States; (3) encourages the Department of Education, the Department of Transportation, and other Federal agencies to support events and commemorations of `Collector Car Appreciation Day', including exhibitions and educational and cultural activities for young people; and (4) encourages the people of the United States to engage in events and commemorations of `Collector Car Appreciation Day' that create opportunities for collector car owners to educate young people on the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the United States, including through the collection and restoration of collector cars.
  21. I have the identical unit in my '69 Electra 225. Did you do the refurb yourself? The "Program" button doesn't work on mine and this season it started only playing the 3rd track repeatedly....Other than that it works and sounds great!
  22. The Vin tag on my '58 truck was hanging by 1 original rivet when I bought it. IT was DMV inspected and they said nothing about it. I then popped in a normal rivet in the other hole to keep from losing it myself. Now, if the other "original" rivet decides to fail, then I will pop in another replacement rivet making it "appear" that the vin tag had been removed and reinstalled, yet it will have never left contact with the truck. I guess I am on track to become a criminal and will soon be on the FBI's most wanted list. Look for my picture at the post office.
  23. That is classic! It's possible he installed one of those driver instructor attachments, but I thought those only had brake pedals? Try to pass MOT with that!
  24. Bummer! I'll mark down the new date. Nashville is in a world of hurt right now as well. Best of luck to any of our members in the flooding regions.
