Is the two-door hardtop door the same length as the four-door hardtop door? I would not have thought so.

My 1929 Franklin had those protruding lenses, but with deeper buckets.

With the one piece windshield, your car looks like a 1925. Here are the 1924 and 1925 models of the touring car which I believe your car was since it has the two kick plates on each side.

Do any of you Dodge Brothers know of a guy by the name of Kenneth Hill who is supposed to be a new member of the Dodge Brothers Club? I think he is around Naples, Florida (originally from northern Michigan). I would really like to get in touch with him. He called me, but I failed to get his number since he was "going to call back". This is what his car used to look like.

As Rusty said...some areas beneath the vinyl may not have originally been painted. I have seen that in quite a few instances. They also on occasion did not prep the top for paint very well.

One really good thing about the four door car restorations...the parts specifically for them are usually cheaper than the two door hardtop/convertible parts.

Mmmm...the original poster did not mention if new vinyl was going on the top. That will certainly make a difference in the removal/prep process.

Try the WPC Club which is one of the best Chrysler products groups out there, in my opinion. There are members in that club who may very well have a frame for you.

I think what most in the old car hobby believe is this: the most "desirable" cars to collect are the touring (open four door) cars, roadsters (open two door) cars and convertibles and coupes. This is a fairly general statement and please do not attack me if you have a four door, but "generally speaking", the four door is the "family" car and not that sporty. There are some VERY sporty high class four doors to which I am not referring to. The 1959 DeSoto that you are referring to sounds to me like a family type car and pretty far gone to me due to the frame being partially rotted. In my eyes (without actually seeing the damage), it sounds like a parts car to me. Once again the term "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" comes to light and of course, if the car is what you desire and you want to spend the money/time to fix it, go for it. You just may not get out of it what you put into it (if that matters).

I was thinking that maybe it is the tool in Dr. Frankenstein's lab that helped put the rivets in the monster's neck.....

On the few cars that I removed the vinyl from I always put the vehicle in the warm/hot sun and take a very sharp putty knife and work under the edge of the material. As far as the glue, I imagine that there is a solvent that will loosen up that stuff. Grind down or cut out the rust. Patch it up...good to go. OH...BE CERTAIN THAT IF YOU ARE USING A TORCH TO HEAT UP OR BURN THE VINYL OFF OR PATCH THE ROOF WITH, YOU TAKE OUT THE HEADLINER FIRST! Some flame could get through and toast your car up pretty well.

The lady looks like one I think I saw on a 1933 Graham and I believe the bird is an aftermarket item. Not sure.
