  1. Many cars were built 100 percent in house. As time went on, technology and economies of scale made many companies use outside sources.......better product is the reason.
  2. Yup.....315 a night isn’t going to get the under thirty crowd...........I get it. I also think they let way too many crappy cars in the club since 1984.........and it’s isn’t helping in any way. So many things are changing in the hobby...........hell, a good tow rig is INSANELY expensive today. It’s going to make the smaller and earlier cars become much more attractive. Something you can haul with a F150 is going to be much easier to deal with than a C-12 Packard seven passenger. It will all work itself out........biggest short term problem is that the hobby is changing faster than us old dinosaurs can adapt. And many don’t want to experience change.
  3. Always wanted a mid 20’s Sunbeam Twin Cam Six............more interesting than a WO Bentley.......and fifty times more rare.......
  4. Glenwood.....I would expect that you may find some information or photos on you car in the very early VMCCA magazines. Crane Simplex cars have always been special and held in high regard from the first days of collecting. It would have been on many peoples must have list early in the hobby and was likely still running and driving from the condition of the car.
  5. Ralph M is riding on the side seat on the early Stutz.......That’s Wayne driving..........
  6. Matt......95 percent of the people paid 315 a night.........special rate that sold out fast. Since a family class hotel in town is 200 a night, the Breakers was a bargain at 315. That said, everything today is expensive and getting worse. Salaries aren’t keeping up with inflation. My area here is ridiculous. Then again, so is Disney World. I can fly to Cleveland for 80 bucks round trip..........so I’m inclined to take my time off away from Florida. Like the AACA annual meeting, round trip direct tickets were 39 bucks...........hell, now the rental car and hotels will be the only real expense, and we can control that fairly easy.
  7. TTR - 90 percent don't have titles when we buy them. We try and document everything we can on them. Sometime we get lots of information, sometimes nothing. All the data plates and such are kept on file. PAS is given the info for the club records. We defiantly have had multiple cars "combined" to make others..........one example is our 1930 pick up truck. It was used twice for a parts supply on other cars.........only 50 percent of it was there. We cut up five 1920-1930 cars over the years and have been able to keep the best perts for out pick up restoration........so when it's finished it will be "floor sweepings" of six cars. That said, the block chassis, and modified body from 1936 are all original to the unit. We ended up with much better fenders, front clip, ect......... We really try to save absolutely everything possible.
  8. 1912Staver........yup....just a regular guy. I bought a bunch of land and sat on it for years, when I built the house, I sold off a few lots and that pretty much paid for the house......I got the fantastic garage, the wife got her kitchen. Rest of the house is plain Jane. We contracted the house ourselves. I have the smallest home in my area......2100 sq feet, all the neighbors are at 6-9k. So it really was forsight that got me into the house..........
  9. A 100k kitchen? In 2004 when I built my house, the granite alone was 80k.........ironically, today it would be less than 30.
  10. Craig.........we save a lot of cars also. Between what we have kept and finished ourselves, what we have passed on to others, and the parts we have sold to get or keep others on the road..........I can state that between John and I no one since WWII has done more to keep Pierce Arrow cars on the road...........and no one else has cut up as many as we have.........fortunately every car we have bought or sold has been photographed, as well as the one that got away. Its rare that a Pierce Arrow pops up that we don't know about. Personally I have added more than 20 unknown cars to the roster over the last 35 years.
  11. I, typically for me, have always been an oddball. Hell Wayne.........here you are just another "normal" guy!
  12. I have known him over 40 years. We share Thanksgiving here every year now.........he's a good guy, and we have lots of fun together here in the winter.
  13. Looks great.......and from the little research I have done, a real challenge to do on the computer. Gary, just curious.......how much screen time to get it to this point? I couldn’t hazard a guess. Thanks, Ed.
  14. Looks like we will have to wait a few weeks for a ride.........👍👍
  15. Mecum a premier event? Hell, I wouldn’t attend if you paid me........
  16. Hey boys.....watch the video.......the car has paint flaking off, all bad glass, tons of dash issues......it’s a typical case of photos make a respray with issues look nice.
  17. Again.........It’s not about what your car is worth...........it’s what other choices you have for the same money. You can buy open Cadillacs from a similar vintage for just a bit more money...........the times, and rules on buying and selling are changing..........no reserve auctions reset the market........up or down.
  18. The sales price is now open car money.........can’t help the sale of this very nice sedan.
  19. At a well publicized auction......that IS all the money. Sure got a lot of value for their money.
  20. 60 Flattop, you’re from Brockport..........you friends with my buddy Tony Z?
  21. My issue with kids today.......money doesn’t motivate them. They all want huge dollars, and can’t produce. Incentive based pay doesn’t work with them. They all want huge money, and can’t stick a stamp on an envelope. Ask one to meet you at 6am at the office or shop......they will pass out. I’m 55 and at 7am I am under cars in the bay. Just proves what a dinosaur I am.
  22. An kids not wanting to get their hands dirty today. No one wants to do real work in this country anymore.
  23. Where did I park the Stearns the other night after bringing it back from the show? Can't remember......covid brain. Maybe Ways marked it on my phone.........
