  1. It may take me a while to dig it up but if I can find it I'll post it.
  2. If not 533, then probably 565? Bob, I'm told the blower on 533 was assembled from parts out of the Harrah collection.
  3. I want to see what a 60k restoration looks like on a 53 Skylark. There is 30k worth of chrome alone on that car. I assume a restoration at this price would be by a hobbyist. Keep in mind, when you see crazy prices for these cars it is for perfect professional jobs. Very few of us can pull that off at home. That said, if the car runs and drives and is semi-presentable, that is a very reasonable price for someone to have a car like that to bomb around in.
  4. Good question Bob. I'll see if I can find out.
  5. Hyman says 190k retail. Did you own this?
  6. I think it is J533 which is currently in the Nethercutt Museum. Blower added later.
  7. Bob, the last 10 chassis were designated JN. They had a number of minor mechanical modifications. I think they were all bodied by Rollston. As West mentions, the biggest thing was the door overhanging the chassis which was a much more up to date look.
  8. It looks like a 36 JN Rollston Conv coupe. Chris or Randy will chime in with the J number.
  9. The black dash is interesting. Almost all were mother of pearl. Please keep us posted with the progress. A 540K restoration is a three year project with full time workers.
  10. I have a picture of myself sitting in an original as a 3 year old at one of the Buckhill Falls Grand Classics.
  11. Here is a 37 Willoughby that was also on the forum. Ford Ford - eBay (item 160732261147 end time Feb-09-12 07:39:38 PST)
  12. Cool! Looks like a nice solid car.
  13. There is one hiding somewhere nearby which I hope to find one of these days. This car is spectacular and would only look better minus the whitewalls. Not sure how I feel about the stainless spokes either.
  14. I had another thought. Perhaps as a donation to a museum you may get a favorable tax deduction depending on your situation. However, I'm still not thinking there is a tremendous amount of value. This reminds me of a situation I had with a very cool wind-up flashlight that was invented by a relative of mine. It was done in the 30s, I have the prototype, patent work, lots of paperwork with various companies interested in it. Pretty neat stuff. When I looked into it's value with the flashlight collectors it became apparent quickly that it was worth more to me on a display shelf then what I could get for it from a collector.
  15. I don't blame you for not wanting to give them the 5k for the book as it should have gone with the car originally. However, that book would add more than 5k to the value of the car by a long shot. This is a topical thread given the recent impounding of the 500k Special Roadster in Germany for allegedly being stolen after the war.
  16. I commented in another thread that people whoe throw out the "Jay Leno will buy it" line are usually not familiar with the hobby. My advice would be to put it on eBay with a reserve that matches what it is worth to you. In other words, if somebody is only going to give you 100 dollars for it then you would rather keep it. However, at 101 you would let it go. Post a link here to the auction. This is interesting stuff for sure and would look nice in somebody's man cave. However, I'm not sure there is a tremendous amount of value. I think it may have more sentimental value to the family than monetary value to collectors.

    16 on ebay

Hyman has been advertising this for a while. They bought it at auction in Ohio last year. It was previously owned by the Canton Classic Car Museum who also had it for sale for a while. Hyman has a healthy premium on it from what they paid.
  18. Definitely an over used phase by people who are not experts in the hobby. It shows a naïveté that they fail to understand Jay pays wholesale (or less) and as a dealer you need retail to stay in business.
  19. Btw, the Plymouth was a MUCH better drive in car than the Jag.
  20. Hey! My high school car was a 49 2 door special deluxe that had 9k miles. When I was nice to my mom she would let me borrow her xk140. Now that I think of it I agree with what you are saying.
  21. Bob, having experience with both, I would say the biggest difference is the Jag looks great in the garage and the Plymouth will not break down on the road.
  22. I saw that ad a while back and wondered what a "super deluxe" was since Plymouth used "Special deluxe".
