  1. This car was restored by a Reo club judge and either bought by RK or its consigned. They have had it awhile. The color is factory but perhaps not for everyone. I really like it.
  2. This car has been on eBay before. Very stylish, I believe a full CCCA classic. Also very expensive to restore.
  3. I see you ended the auction early. Did you get your price?
  4. A rather nice Nurberg 500 for sale on eBay. The Nurberg 500 should not be confused with the 500k as it was a flathead 8 with no blower. However, it was a premium car. Mercedes-Benz : Mercedes Mercedes-Benz : Mercedes | eBay
  5. Skip, are you building a model or a replica?
  6. Here is a link to the original article: One-off Mercedes 500K barn find discovered in South Central, LA salvage yard
  7. Definitely one of my favorites. Hopefully it will be out of hiding soon. Although it's at the junkyard I have a strong suspicion it's stored in better conditions then the other cars they picture.
  8. Speaking of the Caracciola 500k Chris Summer's sent me this link: Exotic Junk Yard Discovery excerpted text: The owner of the yard has passed away and his sons are now running the joint. Supposedly they are not letting anyone in. The gem of the collection is a one-off 1935 Mercedes-Benz Caracciola 500K that is worth big money. This whole situation takes me back to when I was young. The thought of discovering something rare in there and picking it up for pennies is a nice one. Unfortunately, we have no doubt that the new owners know exactly what they have in there and precisely what it is worth. It is nice to dream though...
  9. I believe that there have been 2 Pebble Beach best of show Daimlers. This particular car is a full CCCA Classic. A great car with a great history just not a well known make.
  10. Please post some pictures of your progress! Such a great documented car with one owner for 50 years. Have you had to do any wood work? It seemed like such a solid car.
  11. Brian, Have you requested any info on your car from the MB Classic Center? If it was built in Sindelfingen then they may have it. I believe all the Manheim records went up in smoke. I am not sure what the answer is to your question. If you have a copy of the first volume of Melin then there are many badge pictures which should show the correct fastener. I do not have mine handy. Neat car btw. A.J.
  12. Have you done any work to it? I was very tempted when Barry first found it. Such a cool car.
  13. Nice. You should start a thread down in restoration projects. What color is the top going to be?
  14. The Maroon Coupe is the car from Canada that it seems 1927S bought.
  15. Here is the link to the ad for the victoria: http://forums.aaca.org/f124/1931-reo-royale-victoria-8-35-a-279331.html
  16. If you go back through the forum you will find 2 that were for sale in the last 3 years. One was a complete coupe like yours that Barry Brown was selling from an estate in Canada. The other was a Victoria that was in Washington state and in pieces. If I have time tomorow I will find the Victoria ad.
  17. Hey Steve, I believe the 540k (if it is a Cab A) that that you mention is the same one that was for sale by a dealer in Texas and seems to have floated between dealers. I had thought that car went back to Germany. The 290/320 cars were intended for the upper middle class as they were not inexpensive. All had 4 or 5 speed transmission with overdrive on the high gear so their top end was higher then what was typical of the equivalent American engine. With the independent suspension all around the handling would have been better although I think there was some funkiness with the swing rear on a tight turn at speed.
  18. The radiator on the 500k/540k is made from 16000 individual square copper tubes that are soldered on the outside edges allowing water to pass between the tubes and air to flow through the tubes themselves. The entire unit is then soldered into the chrome shell. Last I knew you could buy the whole unit reproduced for around 40k. The 290/320 models listed from 4 to 6k in the U.S. The 500k/540k started around 10,000 and went up to 14,000k for the Special Roadster.
  19. Great detective work Pete. I agree with your theory that the engine & chassis may not be of the same manufacturer. Attached is a Chevy V8 picture you sent me a while back.
  20. If you have ever seen one in person you would know why it has full classic status. Other than the engine everything is top of the line. This car would have retailed for more than 4k dollars in the US.

Chris, you make a good case for not arguing in public. But, if you look at most of these threads, it's 90% non-members taking shots and members firing back. Most members that I talk to like the club just the way it is. Allegedly there are many that want to open it up a bit but I have never met one in person. Btw, would you be OK with opening up the ACD club to Hollywoods & Skylarks? I actually wouldn't mind.
  22. Bob, on my list too. The walker coupe too but that one is controversial with some.
  23. I think it depends on your disposition towards originality and pocketbook. Also what the car is. A more valuable car would probably necessitate originality, while a lesser valued car I would argue for more efficiency. I'm thinking saving money is probably not sticking with the Weymann frame system.
