  1. I was using a local Chevrolet dealer to service and repair my 89 Chevy 2500 pickup. This incident happened about 5 years ago and caused me to never go back. I had been going there for about 8 years and was reasonably satisfied with them. This truck was my daily driver and even though I am very easy (baby them) on my vehicles, this truck has required an extreme amount of repairs. I won't go into all the repairs but it was many thousands of dollars. One day the interior door handle stopped working. I took the truck in to the dealer to repair it. When I got it back the brake warning light was on. It was not on when I took it in. I returned it and they said they would check it out. After a while they reported back that the truck needed a complete brake job. I told them to check my records in the computer because they had done a complete brake job about a year ago. They checked the computer which verified that. They said that it would not pass inspection so they always recommend a brake job. I was not happy and I told them so. I took the truck back and started to drive home. Each time I stopped the brake pedal seemed mushy and not right. I checked under the hood and they had left the cap of the master cylinder off! I took the truck to a independent repair shop and asked them to check out the brakes, and did not say anything about the dealer. They proved to be honest and said the brakes are fine. From that point on I always take the truck to them for repairs.
  2. My best friend has a '75 Datsun 280Z that he has left sitting in his garage for about 3 years. It is in excellent condition and I have been bugging him to get it running before it sits too long and has problem. Saturday he called and said he was ready to get it running. We decided to drain out the old gas because it could be bad. It had a drain plug in the tank and it came out clear and not smelling bad. Now I have a 5 gallon gas can full of it and I am wondering what to do with it. My recycling center takes drain oil and antifreeze but I don't think they take old gas. What do I do with it? By the way the car started up and ran fine after we got a new battery and changed the oil.
  3. I had a '67 Healey 3000 that I bought new. I drove it as my daily driver until 1977. I loved that car and especially the sound of the exhaust. It was a car that would roast you in the summer with the top up. The heater worked well in the winter. Should have never sold that one.
  4. This Packard now has a 350 crate Chevy engine with an automatic trans. This is what takes the soul out of a True Classic. It is a shame that there are a lot of guys who think this is a big improvement. You could never change their mind or attitutes, so it is a waste of time to even try.
  5. This is a real shame, another true Classic has been ruined. The Ebay listing says it was built by Ben Deiner, a well known builder of fine street rods, and he is still building them. That is great! I wonder how many other Classic cars he has ruined and continues to ruin? This car has been stripped of its soul. Check out the new improved digital dash instead of the beautiful engine turned one, I am sure it had. The modern steering wheel is not an improvement over the original Banjo wheel. This makes me depressed to see cars like this!
  6. Matt, You can reach Richard Gumm at 740-374-8169. His mailing address is: P.O. Box 555, Reno, Ohio 45773-0555
  7. I had the steering wheel on my 1940 Roadmaster done by Mr. Gumm and I am very happy with his work. I would recommend him and his price is very reasonable. I have a friend who had a wheel done on his 1941 Super Convertible at least 10 years ago and it is holding up very well.
  8. I had my 1940 Buick Roadmaster steering wheel restored by Richard Gumm and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the job. I would recommend him with no hesitation, and the price was much more reasonable than anybody else.
  9. When I get gas in any of my old cars, if I see that it has 10% ethanol I drive away and go somewhere else. I have heard it can damage seals and other rubber parts in the carb and fuel pump. It is also a solvent that may break loose deposits in the fuel syster and cause problems. It is better to be safe than sorry.
  10. We always called it a "birdbath" on the trunk. Still think the '57 Imperial was a great looking car. When the '57 Chrysler cars (Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto, Chrysler and Imperial) came out they really attracted attention on the road. I was walking to school when I saw a '57 Plymouth for the first time and could not believe my eyes!
  11. Even though the '57 Imperial had the fake spare on the trunk lid, I thought this was a beautiful car. It is one of my favorite cars of the fifties. As it usaually happens every year after '57 Chrysler restyled it and made it worse!
  12. I wire brushed my exhaust manifold and intake manifold when I rebuilt my engine in my '40 Roadmaster. I used a dremel with a small wire brush attachment to get into the hard to reach areas. I used the Eastwood cast iron exhaust manifold paint on them and they look very good.
  13. Matt I can't believe what a jerk that womans husband was. It goes to prove the old saying "No good deed goes unpunished"
  14. The Roadmaster is beautiful and I really like the color. The original link works for me now, go figure! I think it would look better without the continental kit but I feel that way with most cars.
  15. I need a '40 Roadmaster radiator (part no. 3113847). It has to be a 1940, not a 1941 because the 1940 fill is on the left side because of the fixed center section of the hood. I rebuilt the engine and it runs great but I found the car has a small series radiator and runs hot at highway speeds. The car is basically unusable until I can get the correct radiator for it. I am interested in either a radiator with a good core or one that needs to be recored but has good tanks.

  17. I do remember when the only catagories were Ford and Non-Ford. I still enjoy reading Hemmings magazine (printed version). Sometimes it is nice to sit back and page thru the magazine instead of sitting at the computer. I think Hemmings has become a lot better lately, with the auction results with picture and descriptions of the cars. I also like the articles they have at the begining of the mag.
  18. I got standard size rings for my 1940 320 cu in engine from EGGE machine. They also had new valve springs for the engine.
  19. I see quite a few of these on Ebay (various years). I would keep checking and you will probably find some.
  20. I would definitely put it on Craigs List. It is free and it works! I have sold some car parts and my wife got a good part time job from it.
  21. I am very happy with the Bugle since Pete Phillips has taken over as the Editor. I would be willing to pay additonal dues to get approximately 16 more pages. The Bugle was a good magazine before, but it is now outstanding!
  22. I believe it is a '57 Cadillac hubcap that has been modified with a bullet added to the center over the Cadillac emblem. I had '57 Cadillac hubcaps on my '53 Mercury.
  23. I purchased both the wiring harness under the hood and also the body wiring harness for my '40 Roadmaster. I had them installed by a very good mechanic and he had nothing but praise for both harness's. They were labeled correctly and both were a perfect match. The quality is also great, so I would definitely recommend YNZ.
  24. Restored Rat Rod sounds like an oxymoron to me!
