  1. Doug is always at the Hershey show and I have met him and he is always very personable. I have asked him questions and he is very knowledgable and willing to share his knowledge of '40 and "41 Buicks. He is also a technical advisor of '40 and '41 Buicks in the BCA. It was great to see the article about him in HCC.
  2. My neighbor had a '53 Ford Mainline 2 door wagon that I used on Sundays to take his two daughters to church in. I had a '52 Ford with a Fordomatic and it was a lot of fun to drive the wagon because it was a 3 spd stick. I have never seen a '52-'54 Ford Customline wagon.
  3. I agree the Wizard of Oz was a great movie. How do we find "Wicked Weekend"?
  4. Too many spaces are being used just to park cars in the Hershey flea market for the space holders convenience. I passed by many spaces with late model boring cars in them. It used to be they made a pretense of selling parts by having a few useless rusty items on a tarp. Is there a way to cut down on this practice?
  5. It is still a reality that many AACA award winning show cars are bought by rodders with a lot of money and turned into street rods. This happens even to true Classics. We have had posts on here before by Dave@Moon showing pictures of everything from Packard Darrins to Continental Mark II's with chopped tops. I know they have the right to do what they will with their cars, but I wish they did not "rod" these fine cars. IMHO!
  6. I like the darker colors for the first generation Rivs, but I think that white with a blue interior looks great. I am a little bit prejudiced because that is the colors of my 63. I think the 63 to 65's look good in all the stock colors. My least favorite color for them is red.
  7. Tim and everyone else who replied, I am glad for the info and I will definitely stay with my original carb. I have a friend in my Buick club who is a professional mechanic, who will rebuild my original carb.
  8. I have a 63 Riviera with a Carter AFB carb. I've had the car for over 20 years and about 18 years ago I had the carb rebuilt. It has always had a problem of gas draining out of the bowl after a day or two and requiring a prime of gas to get it started. It still did this after the rebuild. The car really ran strong after the carb was rebuilt and it was tuned up. Now it has gotten to a point that it needs a prime to start after sitting for as little as 4-5 hours. The car still runs very good but after driving 20 miles or so and it is totally warmed up it misses slightly when accelerating hard. Should I have it rebuilt again or would I be better off using a new Edelbrock version of the AFB? I would rather keep it all original but I would like to fix it. I am not sure if the missing is carb related. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.
  9. Just a reminder our all Buick show is coming up next Sunday September 27. Why not bring out your Buick to a great show and give it some probably much needed exercise. Or just come and look at a lot of nice Buicks!
  10. As you probably know the Crestliner was the top of the line of 52 Fords. Having the 3 speed with overdrive makes the car a great driver which will keep up with modern day traffic even on interstates. The 2 door hardtop is a beautiful car. The roof and back window was styled by Gordon Buehrig and is very good looking. Gordon Buehrig was a great designer who desgned the Cord 810/812, many Duesenbergs and the Continental Mark ll. I hope you are able to get this car and please keep it original. It is a valuable car worth at least 10K and probably a lot more.
  11. Please don't destroy a historical Lincoln with such low miles. Don't put a 350 Chevy in it. There is no reason the car can't be driven with the flathead V8 at highway speeds and I hope you will reconsider or sell it. Just my opinion.
  12. If someone needs a transmission for a 35-38 Pontiac this is a great deal. For the price it would be great to have just as a spare. My friend who has it always sells good parts at bargain prices. The engine in my 40 Buick was from him for only $250 and after a rebuild (no rebore, original bearings good) it runs great. Just thought I would bring this back to the top.
  13. Brian, The Buick Enclave is a great looking car. Buick has got the styling on this car right. It really stands out in a sea of generic looking SUV's. This is the direction Buick needs to go and I hope they will step up the styling on all the Buicks.
  14. The Buick Owners of Maryland (BOOM) are having our 23rd Annual All Buick Show on September 27, 2009. This is a great show that usually has 60 to 80 Buicks of all years. It was held at Miller Motors on Belair Rd in Baltimore for many years, but sadly they have had to close their doors. The new location is Boyle Buick-Pontiac, 3015 Emmorton Rd, Abingdon Maryland. We would like to have as many Buicks attend the show as possible. We have classes for every Buick from 1903 to 1999 and also welcome modifieds. For info call: Michael Lawson (717) 428-3408, Rich Berger (410) 923-3657 or Craig Bober (410) 356-9044. Registration is 9:30 to 11:30 AM and Peer Judging Noon to 2:00 PM. Awards are at 2:30 PM. We hope you can make it, you will have a good time!
  15. That Caprice was an excellent buy. When I see pictures on the news of some of these "clunkers" they look a lot better than my daily driver. In the future it is going to be a lot harder to find good cars that you can use for drivers at a bargain price like you were able to Wayne.
  16. Lamarr, Thanks for this info. If you can get a friend going to Charlotte to stop by I will be glad to give you the window, radiator and any other 54 Buick parts that I have.
  17. I have a rear window for a 54 Buick Special 4dr that I have been storing in my basement for the last 25 years. It will also fit 2dr sedans and 55's. I don't want to throw it away but I need to de-clutter. It is in excellent condition and it is free, but you must pick up. Also have a radiator for the same car that is good and is also free.
  18. I have a rear window for a 54 Buick Special 4 dr that I would like to give to a good home. I have been storing it in the basement for the las t 25 years and don't want to just throw it away but need to de-clutter. It is in excellent condition and free. You must pick it up.
  19. I saw a flxible bus at the Mcungie show several years ago and was surprized to see it was powered by a straight eight Buick engine. Very cool. I am sure it must have been a large series 320 cu. in. engine. Sorry I don't have a lead on one but I am sure you need a 320 engine.
  20. I took my drivers test in July 1960. I was 16 and had my learners licence for the minimum time of 15 days. My neighbor had a 55 Oldsmobile two tone blue and he agreed to take me downtown for the test. I had never driven the car before but I passed. He went on to work and I took the bus home. As soon as I got home I took out my 52 Ford for my first solo drive!
  21. Greg, I am glad that your Skylark broke down in the right place. Blue Lakes Auto Repair sounds like a great garage. Those guys were good mechanics and nice to know people will still help old car people out. I had a '65 Skylark 2 door hardtop that I drove for many years as a daily driver to work every day. It was Midnight Blue and a very sharp car. Wish I still had it.
  22. I was able to make it work. I got another radiator cap from a forum member that was very close to sealing the radiator neck. I made a spacer out of neoprene that went under the cap and it now holds pressure fine. The radiator shop was willing to replace the neck and even remove and replace the radiator to do so. This radiator is very hard to take out involving removing the hoods and the sheet metal piece between them. You even have to loosen and spread the fenders slightly. I didn't want them to try doing this. The radiator works well now and the car runs nice and cool even on the hottest days.
  23. There was a junk yard here in Maryland that was owned by two brothers named Brown. They got into a fued and split it up into two yards. It's been about twenty years since I was last up there but I used to pack a lunch and take a cooler and spend the afternoon looking at all the old cars in there mainly 40's and 50's. Once they got to know you they would let roam through the yard. I got some good parts for my '50 Ford up there too.
  24. Frank, I got the radiator cap Monday and it will work fine. I sent you a personal message asking for your address so I can mail you a check for the cap plus shipping. If you don't mind you can post your address or reply to PM. It should be blinking icon at the top when you go on the Buick forum or click on my Michel88 and you will see an option for sending me a PM. Thanks so much for your trouble.
