  3. I think the styling is an acquired taste. Dripping chrome and no surface unadorned. Over the top in a similar way to stylish clothes in about 1970. It's very striking when compared to what was happening in Europe at that time:
  4. I don't understand the multiple years, but it looks like a nice car. (more not very good pics in ad) https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/san-jose-1937-buick-special-4door/7675819017.html e is a clean 1937 Buick special four-door running, driving original interior straight eight packet visor. 5. I really don't like the color but it's still a wonderful car!
  6. I do remember reading that sustained high speeds pushed some cars beyond their limits. You would think a proper sports car from a firm with racing experience wouldn't have these problems, but I have read that Aston Martin needed to "adjust clearances" when the unusual aluminum "cheeses" in the W.O. Bentley designed engine expanded more than he thought the would. German cars didn't have those problems. My father bought a new VW in 1957 and I remember him being very impressed that it would "run all day with your foot on the floorboard". Of course the down side was you needed to keep it there.
  7. My parents met in the late 30's in the oil boom town of Maricopa California. Just up the road, there's an area of the town of Taft that is called Ford City. Local "history" has it that it's called that because there was a Ford Motor Company plant of some sort there. Anyone have any information to support that? Maybe Henry wanted his own gas? Seems unlikely....
  8. Sometimes the parking lot is as good as or better than the event, even if the event is a good one!
  9. Big project...could be speedster material... (more pics in ad) https://salem.craigslist.org/cto/d/salem-1927-reo-flying-cloud/7673132614.html 1927 REO Flying Cloud -Brougham The chassis, engine, and drive train have been gone through and rebuilt fully. The car runs and drives great. It has a restored fuel vacuum pump, and a new starter, and exhaust. The wood steering wheel and wood spokes wheels have been fully restored as well, with 3 inch white wall tires including the spare.. It is in fully driving condition. The engine runs smooth and is run regularly. This is a large 249 in.³ straight six, having deep throated cylinders makes it sound great. The transmission is a strong easy shifting three speed. It’s ready to have the body restored. The body’s been disassembled in the process of restoring. The body parts all are together currently being stored in a cargo trailer. There is very minimal rust in a few areas otherwise it is in great condition for restoring. It has all the gages, window glass, and headlights etc. The original project was taken on by a man who has since passed away un-expectantly; he spent many years with his wife searching down parts for the restoration. I purchased the car 6 to 7 years ago from the wife and since then had it gone through fluids etc., the limiting factor to getting it fully running condition was the vacuum fuel pump. This was sent back to a guy in New York to be restored. After receiving back we installed and the car was ready to run. As I am older myself, I reluctantly realize, I should pass this project and great feeling on. The chassis is ready to go for this car to be assembled and complete this historic 1927 Flying Cloud Brougham restoration. This was the first car with hydraulic brakes produced by Ransom E. Olds (REO). Having the stopping power, he was able to put a larger engine and stronger drivetrain for speed. This car is part of the National Rio Club registry. The Brougham addition was a two door front bucket seats with the back bench seat design. email: 165602c9e5b2322c9c1af04ede3f4cce@sale.craigslist.org
  10. Not an old car at the time, but I bought a new German made Capri in 1973. First time I took the spare out there was an empty schnapps bottle underneath.
  11. Seems to me you are discouraging sellers who haven't done their homework.
  12. Looks like a nice example owned by someone who has no idea about it's value. 13. No interior pictures but the outside looks very nice.... has a serious mechanical issue... https://humboldt.craigslist.org/cto/d/arcata-1930-franklin/7673659290.html 1930 Franklin 145 airman, I have 30000 invested and had the started rebuilt and while they were testing it the motor froze up. I had a buyer in arizona when it was running for 23000 but could not come up with the funds, It is all aluminum so no rust problems, All the wood frame is solid and dry. It has factory hydrolic brakes and factory electric fuel pump. Tires are very good with two new ones on the front, Inside like new I believe when they were testing it , over heated and froze a rod bearing . email: c48b333e36233567b3263670a0c14f86@sale.craigslist.org
  14. Bad pictures and little useful info but it looks like a nice car at a fair price. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/d/menlo-park-1947-chrysler-windsor/7673444777.html 47 Chrysler Windsor is a full-size car which was built by Chrysler from 1939 through to the 1960s. I put a decent amount of work on improving this car. This is a great classic with the fluid drive (manual/automatic) technology. The car runs great and the body is in overall good condition. email: 2a85aafeb615389db1a4658682d0cb4e@sale.craigslist.org
  15. A very neat example from Front Wheel Drive's first period! I love that "Overhead Fan Shaft" with gear box! There was a period between the wars when many Indy cars were front wheel drive.
  16. I admit I have a soft spot for these. SAAB was an aircraft company and at the end of WWII surplus planes were so cheap there was no market for new ones. The first SAABs where designed by a small group...none had any automotive experience and only two had driver's licenses! No wonder it all came out a little differently! Today SAAB does still exist as an aerospace and defense company. https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/truckee-1973-saab-96/7669951091.html A beautiful, original, rust free California Saab 96. This has the 1700cc German Ford V-4 engine, which has been modified with a Weber carburetor and straight exhaust, and Perlux pointless ignition, which increases horsepower from 65hp to about 85hp. The engine, with about 46,000 miles, still maintains its original 150 lbs. compression in each cylinder. It came out of a low mileage 1972 Saab. The car has its original paint and interior, though the headliner has disintegrated and been removed. The transmission is a 4 speed that shifts on the column. It is part of a transaxle delivering power to the front wheel drive. The alloy wheels are from a Saab Sonnett, known as the soccer ball style. Tires are 185/65/15 Falken ZIEX with good tread remaining. Included are a set of steel wheels with studded M&S tires should you be inclined to take the car ice lake racing. Also included is a 1972 Saab 96 parts car, which would be useful should a fender bender ever occur. I have owned the car for 10 years, driving it primarily during the dry months. If you've always wanted a Saab 96, this might be the one. Please note: Craigslist stopped uploading pictures at 10. Contact me to see more pictures if you're interested in the car. (530) 587-1757
  17. Very happy our local Ford plant (Richmond CA) was taken over by the park service. My little town (Petaluma CA) has three Historic Districts where you are not allowed to alter the exterior of your building without review. History is a tremendous asset to a community and needs to be safeguarded!
  18. I get a shown a lot of junk when I go to Goggle now, but I thought this was pretty cute: (Skip the ad at the end)
  19. Likely not a knowledgeable seller...probably close to 50% high, but certainly a fun car. https://medford.craigslist.org/cto/d/murphy-1917-vintage-chevy-door/7665684137.html 1917 Vintage Chevy 4 door convertible. Ok paint Upholstery needs freshened up Convertible framework is there but not the fabric Starts and runs... Come take a look! 541-660-7080
  20. Kind of depressing to even think about this as a project, but there does seem to be a lot of good parts. "A few trim pieces" could mean anything. The glass is the easy part (I've done it). https://redding.craigslist.org/cto/d/redding-1937-hudson-terraplane-project/7671485638.html Great project car overall solid! Few rust areas. Car rolls. Only thing missing is glass, “all flat”….and few trim pieces. Get it before gone! Contact Bill 530 nine five 3 6907
  21. Yes! Looks a nice example and in my opinion it's what the should sell for, but not at all what they do sell for.
  22. As someone who grew up in California before smog laws, I can tell you they have made a huge difference. Politically, California has voted twice to set goals for carbon output so that Genie isn't going back in the bottle. The survey seems to be mostly about evaporative emissions. These were a significant part of smog before everything from gas tanks to filling stations were sealed up. It's why a car built before 1968 emits more with the engine off than a modern one does driving at 65mph. I have a hard time imagining how a car from that period could be sealed up to their satisfaction...I was working on a 2001 Miata recently and it had 3 different circuits from the computer dealing with emissions from the gas tank. Lobbying at the State level is really our only hope! As Ed says, it's all about the money...industries wouldn't be spending millions on it every year if they didn't think it was worth it. Also; I do think some sort of mandatory mileage reporting is coming. The current method of funding highways is failing to keep up with costs and EVs will force a different solution. New cars know everything about you, and they can report it all to the government.
  23. True, but only measures that have passed cloture come to the floor for a vote. Harry Reid got rid of this for judicial appointments but it remains for legislation. "In 1975, the Senate reduced the number of votes required for cloture from two-thirds of senators voting to three-fifths of all senators duly chosen and sworn, or 60 of the current 100 senators. Today, filibusters remain a part of Senate practice, although only on legislation."
  24. I did once buy a car in a situation like that. I believe it was 1987, just as the collector market was starting to go crazy. Advertised as a "real AC Cobra drag car" for $10K in the used car flyer on the newsstand. I talked to the guy and it sounded legit, but he said he wasn't taking deposits, he said "first one with the money gets it". Contributing to the situation, I was newly single and had just received a surprise check for almost that amount. This was in a small town with one bank, and I knew the manager so he did the transfer for me over the phone. Silly purchase really...the car was built by a guy named Romeo Palamides, one of the founders of American Racing Wheels, and had an engine from an early Navy jet. but it was a real Cobra body. I sold it a few months later and got to say I once owned a Cobra (or at least part of one)
