  1. Always makes me think of Andy Hardy's customized Model A
  2. I wondered about "Snowflake AZ". Is it a ski town in the mountains? NO! Here's the answer: Snowflake is a town in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. It was founded in 1878 by Erastus Snow and William Jordan Flake, Mormon pioneers.
  3. Hank the Duce was a great example of the the grand kid who has more of the grandfather's traits than the father does. I think the elder Henry Ford was one of the most interesting people in history, but I sure wouldn't want to go on vacation with him! A real "Whack Job" as we used to say.
  4. Looks nice and it sure is a lot of car for Model A money. (more pics in ad) https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/d/santa-rosa-1930-buick-model/7686097837.html Clean title, all paperwork is complete. Very clean. Everything works. email: fa789e5b6634339eb64219403fcd0cde@sale.craigslist.org
  5. I used to see one of these owned by Martin Swig around town...a truly beautiful car. Almost every description of these states it was Ford's most expensive car, I've never seem a list price. I have read that Henry Ford II went through the roof when he learned that this car was developed and put on the market without his knowledge, but then once he saw it, he ordered several for his family. More info and pictures in ad. https://www.classicopen.eu/cars-for-sale Chassis number 1391, FACEL METALLON body number FMC 1642, engine number 700636. Color black with a bronze roof and a cognac brown leather interior. The rare and beautiful Ford Comète was produced at FACEL in Paris, the chassis with V8 engine came from the Ford France (SAF) factory in Poissy. Prince Rainier of Monaco, owner of a FACEL Bentley, bought a Comète for his wife Grace Kelly. This Ford Comète is a 13 CV model from 1954 with the larger Aquillon V8 engine of 2355 cc (80 hp), linked to an optional Cotal electric-hydraulically operated four-speed gearbox with an intriguing 'joy stick' steering column switch. A total of 2,265 Comètes were built, of which only a small number were equipped with the electric-hydraulically operated Cotal four-speed gearbox.
  6. No interior pictures...Rough but reasonable...I wonder if the engine is seized. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/d/san-fernando-1928-franklin-sedan/7685304862.html 1928 Franklin Sedan 7 Passenger. The car ran when it was parked for storage. Unfortunately the previous owner passed away but the title has been given to the lot owner. Looking to sell it to someone ready for a restoration project. All parts are there with the car, located in San Fernando Valley. $3500 and must provide towing, delivery not available (805) 797-9728
  7. Seems pretty expensive but I do like the horn! 1948 Cushman Scooter rustoration, original patina on solid bones, runs well, has Predator electric start engine with CVT drive, lights and horn, sidecar is Steib usually found on BMW etc german motorcycles. NOT street legal, but really fun
  8. Someone suggested we see some "foreign" cars... The V8 is a Ford Flathead 60 with a slightly longer stroke, built under license. https://www.leboncoin.fr/offre/voitures/2437546158 Simca Vedette Regence from 1955. Aquilon V8 engine. Often used for club and other outings. Some finishing touches needed to make it look superb.
  9. I tried to figure out if this was that car...the ad was very different last year and the pictures no longer come up so I decided if it was the same car, it was probably a new seller....
  10. So true! Someone could have invested a lot in this car if it was all done professionally, but it's neither fish nor foul. My guess would be if the put it on BAT with no reserve, it might go for $60-$80K if they have a little luck. It does look like fun if you don't mind attention and people asking you if it's a kit.
  11. Seems like an actual honest ad!!! https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/d/camas-1928-reo-flying-cloud/7685024791.html Fairly complete car. Ran good when my cousin bought it years ago. The car has headlights and front bumper (no rear bumper). Needs complete restoration. The body work done by previous owner is not up to standard. Reo's were premium mid priced cars. The four door cars had Budd all steel bodies and hydraulic brakes. (360) 903-1581
  12. Very little info in the ad, but what you can see looks nice (isn't that always the way?) https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/sunnyvale-1941-plymouth-special-deluxe/7684772154.html 1941 Plymouth special deluxe. All original, everything works, beautiful yellow car. 33k obo call so we can negotiate, Al Valdez 408-605-6563.
  13. Was the Ghia connection just styling advice? I have always loved this oversized version of the Karmann Ghia body.
  14. Looks very nice...Is this price is in "real woody" territory? Were any of these painted this way in period? Why is the front seat covered? 15. When you think about how the current generation of kids is being raised, it's truly remarkable that almost everyone from my time made it to adulthood.
  16. There's another post about back glass interchanges between GM cars. I just wanted to point out that tempered glass that is curved with a single fairly large radius can now be sourced by your local glass shop (depending on location). It doesn't work for something like a late 50's car that has bends of various radius but if you need the center lite of a three piece back window, or a curved side glass it could be done. Here in California many tempering facilities have the ability to produce bent tempered glass in 1/4 or 3/16 thickness. You would just need to provide a flat pattern or a CAD drawing. Your local glass shop may not know this is possible...They will need some education. It's still a specialty product, which means that some people will try to really make some money on it, so shop around.
  17. Not completely MY first car but as a junior in High School, a group of friends found a '53 Chevy that the owner only wanted $25 for. We each put in $5, found a used battery and away we went. No registration or insurance of course! The license plates were expired so we were careful driving it on the street but had great fun using the local walnut orchards as a slalom course! Then one of the group thought it would be fun to shoot holes in it to look like the car in the movie Bonnie and Clyde, which had just come out. It attracted way to much attention after that, so it got parked behind the gas station where my friend Ron worked after school. The station had a big parking area with a grass berm on one side and Ron decided it would be great to see if the old gal could "jump". We all showed up to watch. Being a safety conscious teenager, he put on one of those old football helmets with the ear bulges, went to the far side of the lot, and floored it! He was probably doing close to 40 when he hit the berm. Unfortunately, the front bumper dug in and the whole front of the car folded under! He wasn't hurt, but he did lose his job.
  18. Yes and the first Chryslers were CD-8s but initially used the same engine as the DC-8 Dodge, beginning a long tradition of confusing MoPar nomenclature. Also at this point, Dodge was positioned above DeSoto.
  19. Definitely a rare car! More pics in ad... https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/d/petaluma-1930-dodge-brothers-dc-rumble/7684175654.html Located in Petaluma CA. 1930 Dodge Brothers DC-8 Rumble Seat Coupe. We are trying to clear out some of the car collection and my dad is interested in selling his straight 8. If you're interested in the car, call him. He doesn't do text messages or emails. Phone Calls Only (707) 799-4570
  20. Doesn't look to me like that radiator would fit that hood...different radius.
  21. No doubt they had a similar function. There was a lot of work put into auto glass design as aerodynamics came more into play when fuel economy became more important about 1980. As cars became more aerodynamic, the windshield was laid back and as a result became bigger. Bigger flatter glass is 1.) Heavier because glass is made of sand and sand is made of rocks and 2.) it increases the solar load so more A/C capability is required, which also effects mileage. Tinted glass became standard, and a number of other approaches have been (and continue to be) tried, but so far, no magic bullet.
  22. Interesting color choice https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds/cto/d/surrey-1949-packard-currently-collector/7683615534.html 1949 Packard four door sedan straight 8 cylinder engine & 3 speed manual transmission new brakes, battery and electric fuel pump currently insured with ICBC as a collector vehicle fresh spark plugs and wires note: detailing of engine area under hood recommended 55,645 miles $19,900.00 email: 7c391a5d24f1351b9ae18ddc70c0cfa3@sale.craigslist.org
  23. One would think that some scrap of documentation would be provided.
  24. A great example of "rarity does not equal value", but could be a fun car! https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/hercules-1951-kaiser-deluxe-rare-auto/7683103274.html 2 Owner was delivered to a Navel officer in Panama, then went with him to Pearal Harbor, from there to Alamda until his retirement. Still has Alameda bumper base pass. After his passing sat in walnut creek until I got it. Many new or rebuilt parts. New tires, starter, and cables, battery. Runs and drives however I have had it 5 years and only move it short distances. So trailering home would be best. A few extra parts go with the car. Radio even works. (510) 367-1701
