  1. I remember going to look at a new Jaguar with my dad in the early 1962. My dad asked the sales guy if the car we were looking at was a '62 model. The sales guy said "Yes, it became one at midnight on December 31st". This interaction is frozen in my mind because at the end of that exchange, the first XKE I ever saw appeared in the dealer's driveway and my 12 year old brain was flooded with car loving hormones !
  2. We see quite a few ads that would only make sense as yard art...this one could be in the family room! Too bad there are no body pictures...I assume it's a mess. Located in Portugal. (more pics in ad) https://www.prewarcar.com/396661-packard-twin-six The car has been all rebuilt mechanically and the rolling chassis completely nut and bolt rebuilt. Fully documented and it still has its original 7 seater body. Build it as speedster or a nice racer.. Very powerful engine.
  3. Seems like a good deal if you aren't interested in the "bling" often seem on these cars.
  4. I did a little research posting this and noticed that very few contemporary road tests listed mileage! It obviously just wasn't an issue. Given the limited range in the ratio of fuel to air where combustion can take place, and knowing that pick up trucks can get MPG in mid 20's now, the efficiency of cars in the early 70's is truly remarkable!
  5. Looks too good to be true, but no obvious scam signs in the ad.... (319 is an Iowa area code) https://redding.craigslist.org/cto/d/redding-1959-ford-galaxie-skyliner/7709657914.html This 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner is finished in two-tone turquoise and white over a matching two-tone interior, and it is equipped with a retractable folding hardtop, a Continental kit, dual spotlights, reproduction Space Saver luggage, and more. Power is supplied by a 352ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a 2.91:1 rear axle. you can text: 3one9 4three5 8/2/one/3
  6. I saw this ad today and my mother had a near identical example. I was an engineering student in 1970, I thought "what the heck were they thinking?". https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/mountain-view-sweet-1971-monte-carlo/7709596336.html It was a pretty car, but they purposely made the hood much longer ("The longest hood in Chevrolet History!!!) for no good reason. Check the diagram below: All that length but the back seat was far from spacious, and got about 12 miles to the gallon without producing much power. Where did all that fuel go? Plus, this one has the highly sought after accessory: Aftermarket sunroof!
  7. That's interesting! '59-'60 was the height of post war flamboyance! I used to live in a little mountain town (population 1500) and the local mortician rented out the back of his space to a mechanic who really did chase parts in the hearse. Being a small town, the mortuary wasn't that busy so the mortician also worked in the meat department at Safeway. You can't make this stuff up!
  8. This must be the top of the Nash pyramid! https://hcservices.be/1932-nash-phaeton/ The 1932 Nash Phaeton is powered by an impressive 125 horsepower, 5300 cubic capacity eight-cylinder engine, with twin ignition and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Under the hood, you'll find a well-functioning and sought-after Stromberg Uur2 carburettor, along with a magnificent manifold that provides the car with sufficient fuel This Nash 998 is part of a collection of cars located in Antwerp Belgium that we are selling for a client in France.
  9. Almost no information and apparently not currently running. On the plus side, air fare to Denmark is less this time of year. https://www.oldtimerauto.dk/node/107
  10. This would be great to chase parts! (more pics in ad...it's confusing!) https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/d/half-moon-bay-1955-packard-caribean/7709342690.html BUICK is a le sabre based wagon Flxette with raised roof by Flxible, used as a rescue unit by a Spokane area Civil Defense unit.few miles on a rebuilt 401" V8 convert back to wagon seating, or to hearse or ambulance accessories. needs interior redone and transmission seal $14,000 email: 1f1ceb956f793ca7bb26629e1b31fce3@sale.craigslist.org

  12. When I lived up near Donner Summit (7000ft) around 1980, these Eagles and Wagoneers were the only choices if you wanted four wheel drive and didn't want a truck. You are correct about California smog on cars 1976-1988. I took my grand daughter's Lexus to get smoged so she could sell it and had a conversation with the technician. On newer cars they don't actually test emissions. They just hook up to the on board diagnosis port and the car's computer tells them if all is well. On earlier cars, they 1.) do a visual inspection to confirm all required components are in place, 2.) put the car on rollers and drive it at a two different required speeds and RPMs. The technicians hate this because it takes much longer and sometimes the gearing in the car doesn't fit with what the state thinks the RPM should be to test at the required speed, which can result in a warning letter sent to the test station. Too many of those and they lose their license. There are a couple of 1980 MGBs in a club I belong to, and they get quite concerned every two years when they have to test.
  13. I've been quite a few times, the various venues each have their own distinct "vibe". Lots of fun, even if you are just a spectator! That's a nice offer from Worldwide.
  14. The Auto Club Speedway east of Los Angeles is closing and a big portion will turn into housing. It's a huge facility that has been on the NASCAR schedule since the 90's. I went to a vintage race there about 2008, very funny to see Austin Healy Sprites wide open on a super oval! The rise in real estate prices has been killing rqce tracks for a long time. Here's an early victim: It was very successful yet only operated for four years. The problem was it's location along Wilshire Blvd in an undeveloped area known as Beverly Hills!
  15. I went to Laguna Seca many times as a kid when it was still on an active Army Base (Ft. Ord). I later qualified with the M14 there as a 20 year old. My reading of what's going on is the neighbors are complaining that the track is now used 340 days a year, and that's far different than it was 20 years ago. They want some restrictions, and perhaps they will get some of them but it's owned by Monterey County, and is a major major revenue generator (almost a quarter billion a year) . The County has said "The County does not recognize any merit to the allegations and expects a favorable legal conclusion.” It's not going anywhere.
  16. I'm been around a few of these Hollywoods and do think they are neat. You don't realize how much has been lost until you juxtapose the original design. Gordon Buehrig was a master!
  17. Looks nice but searching this forum it make sure it hasn't been already posted revealed that this is almost double the typical price. (more pics in ad) https://salem.craigslist.org/cto/d/salem-1941-graham-hollywood/7708263233.html Very rare 1941 Graham Hollywood Supercharged, 1378 Examples built, with only 350 built the last year 1941. This is 1 of 15 with factory Overdrive. When Cord went out of business, Graham continued with the coachwork of these cars. You can look up a lot of information on the web about these cars. This car was shown many years at Branson Auto & Farm Museum in Missouri from he mid 1980's to 2016 when a enthusiast brought it to Texas. In 2019, it was sold to a friend of ours here in Newberg, Oregon. It has a 218 Inline 6, with Factory Graham Supercharger on it, pretty cool car, Original VIN take, with Numbers matching Engine ID is on the tag, and ID is stamped on side of the block. Runs and drive excellent, older restoration, but overall really nice car. It takes someone who wants something different, and has knowledge of these cars. It spent the last 4 years at a Newberg Winery on display, and driving folks around. Interior was all redone in wool in 2016. This is a really cool car, if you have interested let us know. $59,000 obo, Denwerks Vintage Car Shop, DA0612 Thanks Jason (503) 910-2085

  21. It for sure is the greatest assemblage for French automotive masterpieces out side of the National Museum in Mulhouse, France. The French auto industry in the inter-war period held the same position in the auto design and performance pantheon as the Italians did in the 50's. It's a terrible shame that it's closing but it always seemed to me that it was only open just enough to satisfy the IRS.
  22. I vividly remember the whole Harrah's ordeal. There is a biography of him but I don't have a copy so here's my semi-reliable memory: My recollection is he said that he didn't want to lock anything down about it...that it was "his" collection and once he was gone others should decide. Naturally the hotel chain saw it as a "non performing asset", and we were lucky the State of Nevada found funding to save about ten percent. I believe at the time of his death there were 1100 cars and other objects including a Ford Trimotor airliner.
