  1. Looks like a nice mostly original example (except for the gas pedal) ....no information about actual condition. I wonder how long it took to get that dusty. more pics in ad https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/livermore-1922-studebaker-light-six/7692689343.html Here is a gem in the rough, a 1922 Studebaker Light Six... Too many projects and not enough time.. CA title and registration up to date! Asking $15000 OBO email a6a8d886426930cd8b84504628428cb8@sale.craigslist.org
  2. Everybody and every car in LA is a star waiting to be discovered! (Is my Northern California bias showing?)
  3. Wow! In the old days (60's) KSFO had the world's greatest jingle:
  4. I don't know what to say about this....(more not very good pics in ad) https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/d/san-jose-classic-1934-dodge-d6/7692247943.html 1934 dodge deluxe d6 4 door suicide flathead 6 .6volt 3 speed manual floor leather interior all gauges work safari front windshield historical plates (408) 625-0782
  5. As a SAAB aficionado, I'm not aware that it was ever banned. I did not know so many older cars had it! (Why I love this forum). I can tell you that SAAB had it because they were originally 2-strokes (easier to start in cold weather) and as such, the intake charge travels through the crank case, so there needs to be oil in the gas. If you went down a long hill with the throttle closed, you were also cutting of the lubrication to the engine, so they had the freewheel feature to allow the engine to not be spinning at high revs with the throttle closed. After they switched to the Ford V4, they kept it because....well, it was just how they did it. The SAAB model 99 was the first car without it.
  6. My 2018 Chev Volt plug in hybrid had a problem yesterday. It's been a wonderful car 'till now (98,000) miles but being a PHEV, it's very complex and since we are are hoping it's a warranty covered issue, we had to take it to the dealer. They have only one technician trained on the vehicle (almost 160,000 produced) and he's pretty booked up. All of which made wonder about motorists in the early brass ear. Many years ago, I knew an old man who once owned a black smith shop. He met his wife in 1910, when she took her car to him to have the brakes fixed, was unable to stop and smashed his work bench. I wonder how many black smiths were actually competent to work on cars, especially given that many manufacturers had novel solutions and nothing was standard. I know my little town had 86 automobiles in 1909. No gas stations for a decade or more after that. Did they worry about getting gas the way today's EV owners worry about finding a charger? Here they got it from the pharmacy because they also sold other chemicals. I would imagine if you set off into the hinterlands, it could be a problem.
  7. Yes! Huge changes starting about 1850 and accelerating there after. Obviously still going on today and unstoppable. George Washington's army could not move faster than the one belonging to Julius Caesar. Then came steam, then internal combustion. 2 things I'm sure of: 1.) in 50 years, it won't be either of those two 2.) I don't need to worry about it.
  8. Seems like a high proportion of Marmons we see on this forum are Roosevelts. I wonder it they accomplished their mission of increasing sales. Obviously, not enough.....
  9. They are very nice looing cars but Fallon NV.... Home to a Naval aviation bombing range so you know it's a ways off the beaten path. It will take some effort to go see...
  10. I always find it hard to believe they that don't know if the engine is stuck. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/d/moro-1938-buick-convertible-project/7691556149.html CAR IS LOCATED IN MORO OREGON I bought this car awhile ago out of an estate, thinking I would build a stock-looking street rod out of it, but I have since found a different car I want more. This is a very straight and solid project that was brought to the Northwest from Arizona and is NOT RUSTY. It still has the original chassis that has been re-painted and a restoration started a couple decades ago. All the trim seems to be intact as well as the spare tire covers. The top irons also look to be complete. I have never attempted to start the car or turn it over, it is a total project, but I don't think you could find a better car to start with. also comes with an extra re-chromed grille. I was not the one to dis-assemble the car in the first place, nor am I a Buick expert in any way. It is a 1938 Special Convertible with a rumble seat, and the optional dual side-mount spares. It has the straight 8 engine and a 3 speed manual $22,000 Please feel free to call me at 5o3 7o3 2eight7 four but NO TEXTS !!!!!!!!
  11. Looks really nice...must be close to top of the heap in this period... https://www.prewarcar.com/389220-1914-cadillac-roadster-model-30 Beautiful car. New paint. New clutch. Good top. Older interior but very usable. Runs and drives well. Optional wire wheels. Lots of legroom in this roadster. Fun to drive these powerful Cadillac's. Located in sunny Florida USA. Will store until you can arrange shipping. Phone: 207-889-0039 Email: wbcq@wbcq.com
  12. I think it will be a future collectible, but the jury is still out on whether or not it will be the new Pontiac Aztek. The original Tesla roadster dipped into affordable territory when the model S came out years ago but is now at about 130% of original MSRP.
  13. Here's the new ad, which sets a record for length! https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/d/palos-verdes-peninsula-rare-1934-desoto/7691200179.html email: 11015438f43d36edac3af9d90fbca8f2@sale.craigslist.org
  14. A '32 PB Plymouth is a great car and probably the ultimate 4 cylinder of the period, but this price is at least double what it should be. Once again, missing the original air cleaner! (more pics in ad) https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1932-plymouth-3-window.1304974/ 1932 Plymouth 3 window; has the original 4 cylinder, all gauges work as they should. Maybe one or two repaints over the years, I have the front bumper and mounts. Other spare parts in the trunk. Rust free car, that has not be chopped up at all. Newer vinyl top, original interior. Runs and drives.
  15. Not just four tires! Also included are "(4) beautiful Cloisonné Center Hubcaps with perfect centers with no chips, Beautiful rust free front fenders and hood with NICE used Cormorant Hood ornament"! Just repair or replace everything else and you'll have a beautiful car!
  16. All very true and thank you for your thorough daily searches of those dark corners! We do appreciate them! Given just the cost of paint alone, many cars we see are no longer economically restorable. Lucky for us, car people aren't always rational in their purchases. Also, although I'd guess half the Model A's in the world are now V8 powered, I've never seen a 29 Caddy with a small block.
  17. I wonder if the movie has a car chase scene? Could be really exciting (especially for the new driver)
  18. I have a story from the opposite end of the performance spectrum. In the late 70's and early 80's, I owned a glass shop in the small town of Truckee CA, located at 6100ft, just over Donner Pass on I-80 (7,000ft). The CHP had a station in town and we did all their work. Just before they got the Mustangs, they received a couple of Dodge K cars! There was an article in the local paper about how they not only couldn't catch up to speeders going over the summit, they couldn't even stay with them to clock them! It was also a hard transition to move from the front wheel drive "K" to the Mustang when there was snow on the ground (possible about 9 months of the year).
  19. Can you still get a Maaco job for $1,000? In the dim past I got a few low cost paint jobs where I did all prep before taking it to in and they did well. Use to be, they had some old guys who could really lay down enamel.
  20. My first car was a pretty nice Hillman convertible. It ran OK but had been sitting and needed a brake job. $50. A couple of years later I almost traded my 4 year old Porsche 912 ($50K today) for a Mercedes 300SL Convertible. (now over a million). One of my father's friends tried to sell him a '55 Porsche 550 Spyder for $3500. He drove to for a week. My mom nixed it (they are around 3 mil today).
  21. Seems fairly priced...why are so many air cleaners missing? https://modesto.craigslist.org/cto/d/modesto-41-dodge/7688792132.html For sale 1941dodge, running with overhauled flat six, fuiddrive manual transmission do not use due to health reasons. Time to let it go, if interested leave message. Don’t need help selling thank you email: 73a8673efeca31fe87584eb66f86d5d1@sale.craigslist.org
