Being honest , I haven’t the experience to consider that issue and didn’t even notice on the examples I saw before I proceeded , I just like the toned down chrome effect and considering the cost is only 1/3 of new wheels I am satisfied .

Posting as I’ve just had some powder coated from experience I’ve noted , that for a good finish your original wheels have to be in reasonable shape , ie free from rust , scratches or dents , as powder coating dos nt cover as well as a few coats of paint . However powder coating is better than the ones I e tried painting with aerosol can and particularly better than chrome in a can. So I think the local paint shop or powder coating shop wins for me as I don’t have the skill or the equipment to sand blast or dip for paint removal and the means to spray to good finish . However I know there are members of this board who have these in house skills and I am constantly amazed by the restoration accomplishments displayed on here. My powder coated chrome effect ( 1937hd45 perhaps my wife doesn’t mind my slight change of gender😁)

Talking of scams , a few days ago, there was a Aston Martin DB5 on here for sale , no price or location , by Alex navi who just joined thought that was likely scam , can’t see it now , probably deleted.

And the poor fella in his box not that happy with his last ride.😊

Price, 22pounds 10shillings about 10 weeks wages for a workman then, so not cheap , my dad had often had 4or 5 similar cars ,he tinkered with and I played in , just sitting out back , perhaps he was dealing ,never thought about it till now and realised how much they were worth.

I’m not keen on the sellers who say ,selling for a friend , sometimes an excuse to give you very limited information , recently tried to buy some wire wheels, and asked seller diameter of spline , even though I described what I needed to know , just kept saying 15’’ , look at photos , didn’t buy. Although photos tell a lot , they don’t indicate whether a item works or not , and sometimes photos taken in such bad light are only good for physical shape no detail . bought a dashboard with clocks recently , not a good photo , when it came had a broken glass and on closer inspection tachometer was from a later model, luckily made use of the bits I wanted and eventually sold remainder, but I did list accurately.

Being from Uk and involved with restoration at present , what’s European attitude exactly , I can only imagine you mean a less critical eye for originality, such as powder coated wheels chrome effect as opposed to real chrome

I had same , sent me a photo of a sun visor , of a different make nothing like what I needed , she must have got the photo from the Internet i replied wrong car and she replied I don’t understand . The fact they joined and squier wrote to all the above and possibly more, quite a devious and sizeable scam. Email , Jesus loves you , but don’t think that lady will be seeing him sometime, somewhere hotter I think 😁

Being a little worried every time I have to leave my Buick in busy or unprotected situation , for instance when we go out for a meal or drink and car is not within my vision , I have found that the top hotels here in Cyprus love the opportunity to have Ruby parked in a prominent position , however most have a valet service , so reluctantly I have handed over keys . These hotels are also casinos and have many very rich punters visiting , so Ruby has been mixing with some high rollers , they have a private parking bay out front of one hotel and Ruby was nestled between New Ferrari and Lamborghini, I went to another hotel and valet took keys , when I came Ruby was parked on their forcourt , between the hotels two new bentleys they use for picking up their top clients . Valet must have been pretty good driver as access to forcourt was between two pillars hardly wider than Ruby or Bentley , haven’t risked that one since.

In my case it goes without saying I’m a 47 , Ruby’s a 53 , no doubt both in general opinion old! Ruby has advantage been restored and looks great , me unfortunately plenty signs of wear , think my wife would like me to have the makeover, but restoration costs big bucks , so she will have make do with good quality daily driver ! but feel Ruby and I have quite a few years fun left in both of us 😁

I also think , you have to consider what your buying , if you buying a project or daily driver , you probably are not expecting a faultless car and your outlay is accordingly lower and whether you need to physically veiw yourself is personal choice as an appraiser should be able to convey enough details to you. However if your buying top end , restored car or very well maintained original and spending big bucks , I think viewing essential, would be for me. I also wonder , how expensive internal flights are in US as if I’m spending few K on car what’s a few hundred bucks for piece of mind and if I’m spending big bucks , well the flight cost is minimal compared to total investment
