  3. the Four Vagabonds Between 1915 and 1924, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs, calling themselves the Four Vagabonds, embarked on a series of summer camping trips. The idea was initiated in 1914 when Ford and Burroughs visited Edison in Florida and toured the Everglades. The notion blossomed the next year when Ford, Edison and Firestone were in California for the Panama-Pacific Exposition. They visited Luther Burbank and then drove from Riverside to San Diego.
  4. Luther Burbank. I wonder of our local Burbank historian may have anything about that in the files.
  5. The old days when you paid $15 to place a classified ad in your local paper for a week was better. You had to fill out the form that had one box per character. People would answer the phone number. it was the only contact. But now you get no response to your emails. if you saw an ad in the classifieds, you knew it was a serious seller.
  6. I'll go see it tomorrow on discount Tuesday, only $6 admission, compared to the usual $11.50.
  7. They walked out of class to participate in a die-in, in the name of global warming. I never was so lucky, to get to just cut class with impunity.

  9. I was wondering about turning down the piston some how. I read this is not your first go at adapting an entirely different modern piston to a very vintage engine.

  11. I can tell you this. There are battery powered bicycles, and hills kill them. They either don't have the power to climb, or the battery goes dead quick. While they may work reasonably well on flat land. Weight is very important on a bicycle. A bike to climb hills would need an unreasonably big heavy battery.
  12. Terry, I was just posing a question. Geez.
  13. I would like to hear from a Tesla owner who drove up and over the I-5 Grapevine north of Los Angeles, how much charge was depleted from the battery pack. Someone (Tesla owner) wrote this: 15 mile climb depletes 40 miles of range. Going south from Tejon at 65mph you will use 40 miles of range to travel (climb) 15 miles (top of the grade) ... you will recoup 17 miles of the 25 you lost (on the climb) >> on your decent. So not net net... you'll loose about 8.
  14. "The experiment -- which involved a high voltage line strung above the arches, through a substation-like structure on top of each engine to step down the voltage, then convert it to DC current which actually ran the engine ...." Overhead wire like a city bus.
  15. SOLD FOR $22,050 ON 12/4/19
  16. That would be a game changer, and make me want an electric. Don't think it is possible though. I was thinking a groove cut in the middle of the lane with a high voltage wire in it. Very dangerous, impractical, etc, though.
  17. Yes take it to a camera shop that does the film-to-dvd transfers and they should be able to put it on dvd. I have a couple in my town that do that. Movie film transfer Super8/8mm to DVD $0.18 per foot 16mm to DVD $0.18 per foot Duplicate DVD at time of transfer $ 9.99 ea. ***$49.95 minimum on all movie transfer orders***
  18. There is a Model X Tesla SUV parked at one of our strip malls all the time. Belongs to the owner of a franchise fast food BBQ place. The more money a business owner spends on a vehicle, the more they can deduct. So more power to them. But it doesn't imply it is the most economical choice.
  19. It wasn't that long ago Maytag quit making appliances, like washers, in the midwest. They transitioned most to mexico and still made some here, then gave up and moved it all out of the country. I have a Maytag washer that is probably 50, or 55 years old and will keep it. It is very simple and well made. In renegotiating NAFTA the afl-cio weighs in and says mexico needs minimum wages laws so that workers are at least paid a living wage, workplace safety laws, anti child labor law, etc. Mexico responds by laughing, saying you've got to be kidding, right? AFL-CIO President Trumka has said, “We are working to try to get an agreement worthy of the American economy and the American worker.” Such an agreement, however, should prohibit investment decisions that increase poverty across North America, rather than accepting poverty and displacement as unfortunate byproducts of trade. It could mandate works councils to give unions power over company investment decisions, guarantee labor rights across borders, and even demilitarize the US-Mexico border itself. http://aflcio.org/aboutleadershipstatements/trade-must-build-inclusive-economy-all We reaffirm our commitment to labor rights and decent work for workers in all nations. Economic justice cannot be achieved by continuing to give global firms free rein to abuse workers and exploit the environment in a race to the bottom disguised as “free trade.” Nor can we allow trade agreements to be vehicles to achieve other corporate agendas that undermine the interests of working people and our families. This is nowhere more true than in North America, where trade relations are governed by NAFTA. Its key failure was built into its structure: setting up a system of rigged trade, in which global firms could increase profits by transferring production to Mexico where they could take advantage of systemic worker repression, exploiting both U.S. and Mexican workers in the process. By design, NAFTA distorted power relationships in favor of global employers over workers, weakened worker bargaining power and encouraged the de-industrialization of the U.S. economy. NAFTA contains not a single rule to ensure that working people and our employers prosper together, even though its proponents falsely claimed that was the inevitable outcome. After a quarter-century of this race to the bottom, workers in all three NAFTA countries find it more difficult to form unions and negotiate collective bargaining agreements. We face greater inequality. We face ever more powerful monopolies. And the United States faces a growing trade deficit, despite promises by the administration to address this imbalance.
  20. The cap on the timing chain was loose. He had his finger under it.
  21. Here it is for those who haven't seen it
  22. The reality is we have many people commuting over 60 miles each way to work, due to housing costs and wage disparity. People live in the lower cost housing area and commute long distances for better paying jobs. EV's are being bought by retired people and those who don't need to commute too far.
