  1. Hi all, Just wondering how easily the main shaft can inter-change in the various models. ie. can a 631 shaft fit into a 647 housing? Has anyone experimented with these distributors?
  2. WOW! That white fence looks awesome...
  3. Mate, that's a lot of cola. I guess its useful for something.....
  4. Using a vernier calipers on the depth gauge is the method I use.
  5. If you have a race horse, you could do what these gala's did with the paint. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine_Cotton
  6. Make some 'art'. Paint the old fence. Donate it to your local graffiti 'artist'.
  7. Stop complaining and get into top gear BJ. This is what I have to work with. But my car is drivable... I may have a little shed envy of the neighbours...
  8. Doh! I got to about page 200 and gave up....:( Its a great comprehensive catalog though. I wasted lots of hours looking....:) Thanks you blokes.
  9. Anyone know who supplies these plugs? I have tried Restoration Supply Company with no luck....:( Its on the back of the 1928 Chrysler series 62 headlight. The 3 pins inside are spring loaded. ID is about 20mm (4/5").
  10. Has it happened with other coils? If there is an spark (arc) at the points somewhere, its most likely caused by the secondary part of the coil (high tension/voltage) not the primary 12volt side. Its possible that your coil has an internal short from the secondary to primary side. Give another coil ago.
  11. I would have thought, rest of the car...:)
  12. They obviously used the ' She'll be right mate!' technique.

    MSD ignition box

Thanks. I did send a message to MSD tech support but have had no response as yet. The only post I could find on the MSD forums about connecting to positive ground is over 10 years old. On this thread the MSD tech person said their products did not work with positive ground....:( Why couldn't one connect the red wire to ground and the black wire to switched -ve wire? All other connections from the MSD box to the coil and distributor as per MSD instructions. I have a spare MSD street fire box sitting idle.

    MSD ignition box

I'm not sure that there is a 6volt MSD box available, but you could use a step-up DC converter to power a MSD. I am not sure about the polarity issue, which is why I asked the question.
  15. Has anyone wired up a MSD box (street fire) on a +12v ground/earth setup?
  16. If its a recent rebuild, it will run a little hotter until it loosens up. But do put a thermostat in, it wont hurt. Also, is it 2" below the bottom of the neck or the top of it?
  17. Try reducing the level even further ie. 3" below. This engine is obviuosly running hotter, so when you stop the water/coolant is rising higher.
  18. If i was going hotrod a car, that is how i would do it. However, i would never do it to a beautiful unique model like that.
  19. I've been wanting to add hazard lights to my 28 Chrysler for some time. The simplest circuit I could come up with was a on/off switch between the left and right output wires from the main indicator/turn switch. The main on/off/on indicator/turn switch. I used the switch below that was apparently for the 'manifold heat control button' (with some internal modifications) as my hazard on/off switch. Any on/off switch could be used. Only thing you need to know about this setup is that the indicator switch must be 'active' ie. must be 'on' left or right for the hazard lights switch to work. Auto sparkies, let me know if there are any issues with the setup.
  20. I was kidding mate about the bike shop, seeing how the Humber wheels look so much like a bike wheel. However, giving it another thought, if you only want them for moving the chassis around the shed, it's not such a bad idea. The right size bike tyre with a tube may just do the job at a reasonable cost. The colour you have chosen is very similar to my 28 Chrysler colour. I am sure you have a huge smile on your face from getting this amazing project to this stage. You will definitely be getting toey as you progress along because it will look so much like a real car from now on. I admire your skills, determination, and enthusiasm.
  21. Ol' mate, they look like very low profile tyres...:)
  22. I do this for a living. I immensely enjoy it, feels great when you see their family and friends with huge smiles. The Klaxton horn makes an impression too. I charge for a full wedding au$550, usually about 3-4 hours (plus driving there and back), which is a very competitive rate. School formals (prom) I charge au$240 one way only. roaringtwenties Yes, the 'other' running costs are very expensive.
