  1. Did it do a full revolution or stopped after a few degrees of turning? If so, you may have installed the camshaft incorrectly - the valves maybe hitting the pistons. But like others have suggested, pull the oil pan out and inspect. There is something drastically wrong. I doubt its tight bearings.
  2. IMHO, your radiator is working perfectly fine. As you mentioned, the issue probably lies with the head gasket not aligning well and causing the extra heat at the back of the head where the temp. sensor is located. Could the sensor itself be causing an interruption of the coolant flow? And hence, heat building up there?

  4. I use plain old garage degreaser. Just spray it on, give it a light brush and Bobs your uncle. Works.
  5. I have never been able to not crash the gearbox when down shifting from 3 - 2, regardless of the attempts at double clutching. So, I avoid it as much as possible. No problems up shifting without double clutching. I have Penrite T250 oil in the gearbox, which they say is equivalent to 600w oil.

  7. Agreed. If the engine is roaring like a lion and there are no signs of damage, its either stuck in one of the inlet ports or never went down there.
  8. I reckon the issue is the battery. It looks like its +5 years old and not being charged with a regulated output, its probably had its time. An easy test would be checking the battery voltage when cold and then when hot. ie. not while the engine is running. As others have mentioned, do the simple tests first.

  10. Yep, that electric fuel pump is your main issue. Its probably pumping around 4 -6psi, you need less than 2.5 psi. Stick a fuel pressure regulator between the pump and carby, Bob will be your uncle. I use one of these; http://www.speco.com.au/images/GAM512-00.jpg

  12. If you can remember, what were the dimensions of this Allen key? ie. length and height?
  13. How big or small is the Allen key? Will it fit down the intake ports of the heads? My guess would be that it is still in one of the inlet ports of the cylinder heads and has not passed an inlet valve, which would explain the trouble free operation of the engine. So, remove the inlet manifold only at this stage.

    oil pressure

    My 1928 Chrysler was similar, at start up the oil gauge would go all the way up to 50psi, as the engine warmed up, the pressure would drop gradually to 10psi and stay there. I always thought this was strange, that it would not increase in psi with engine rpm. But recently something has happened, probably in the relief valve but I am not sure, it will still start up at 50psi but now at operating temp will range from 10psi to 25psi depending on temp and engine rpm. Its a worn engine and I use 40w Penrite oil
  17. I do this here in Australia for a living. However, it is like any other business - doing the weddings is the easy part, getting the business and working with the cash flow is where the challenges are. The red tape that I needed to cut through just to be legal was crazy. But I would highly recommend you are fully legal and insured, those nice brides can turn into bride-zillas very quickly. To be legal here in Australia costs about $5k per year before any business or running cost of the vehicle. You must have amazing pictures to lure the brides. http://www.roaringtwenties.net.au
  18. Hi all, I am looking for a early flathead 6 - before 1932. This is for my Chrysler 1928 series 62 so preferably an engine number with M... and a 180ci Condition not important but a recent runner would be a bonus. Im in Australia, so would need some help with transporting here. ie. packing it into a crate of some sorts. I have my fingers crossed.
  19. You will be amazed at the number people who will pull up behind you at traffic lights (even with 2 other lanes empty) and expect you to accelerate at their pace.

I am looking to rebuild an engine for my 1928 model 62, which currently has a 181ci (25 1/4") flathead, and wondering if the other larger later Chrysler flatheads will swap easily to the existing gearbox, pedal assembly, engine/gearbox mounting, etc I have been considering a 218ci or 230ci Chrysler flathead from later models. The reason why I wish to build another engine and not the existing engine is that I want minimal down time. ie. once the new engine is ready, do a quick engine swap. Also, it seems that these engines have a lot more parts availability. Being in the land of OZ, its a right hand drive variant.
  22. I used a needle to unblock it, shes now purring like a pussy cat. Idling at 450-500rpm Just need to chased down a slight mis-fire, probably one of the spark plug gaps.
