  1. One of my co-workers once told me her mom has a car so old the headlight dimmer was on the floor! Scary isn't it. Terry
  2. Here is a set of somewhat unusual cereal give away toys from the early 1950's. They were in boxes of Nabisco Shredded Wheat and the child had to assemble them from cardboard cut outs. There was a Buick Skylark, Chevrolet Corvette and Jaguar XK-120 in the set. I found these unassembled ones at a local estate sale. Hard to believe they are still around 60+ years later!
  3. The photo shows that eventually our cars become just another old car and are subject to all kinds of abuse such as candidates for a demolition derby. The Plymouth two door sedan must have reached this point and gave its all for the event. Looks like the photo might have been taken in the mid to late 1960's. Terry
  4. Really nice find. My first car was a 1951 Chieftain in that exact color combo!
  5. My wife is the Internet sales customer support person for her company that sells mechanical replacement parts on eBay, Amazon and their own website. You would not believe the stories she has to tell about what people buy without reading full the discription first! She has more patience that I ever would when working with them
  6. Old cars, and collector cars in general are a tough sell to the younger audience from my experience. My 23 yr old son is a car guy. He appreciates classics but his dream cars are more modern like Mercedes Benz and Audi and the like. Most of his friends know nothing about cars except you put gas in them and call AAA when they don't go. In my neighborhood where most young people are in their 40s to early 50s, none are car guys. They have Honda, Audi, BMW, VW and the like. Its difficult to even get them excited about telling me the details of their car when they get a new one. It's a boring place for sure for a car guy. Is there a future for the hobby? Yes, but probably more towards investment options that driving cars. Is anyone buying stockpiles of 1980s and 1990s parts to sell at Hershey in 2030? Probably not. Terry
  7. Non car people always looked at me as bit of a nut when I told them my every day driver cars sat outside despite having four garage doors. The really good cars and motorcycles were enjoying those select spots. Never regretted owning them as opposed to putting the money in the bank and hoping I would get 0.005% interest on it. Terry
  8. Years ago I shared a large farmhouse rental with another engineer from where I worked. We were both car guys and rented the place as it had a huge garage and gave us a place to work on our auto and motorcycle projects. Part of the rental agreement was to cut the grass on the property. We bought some really old cheap push mowers to do the job. One was similar to the mower pictured here except it was self propelled but that feature did not work so well. After using that hard to push mower one day I shut it down using the metal tab it had to short out the spark plug as the normal shut off on the speed control no longer worked. As the engine died out it gave a backfire through the carb which caused the carb to catch on fire and the mower burned to the ground. I rushed in to the house to tell my friend the good "bad" news that the mower we hated had finally died. We later celebrated its demise with several cold adult beverages and pizza! Thank you you for posting your mower picture and reminding me of that great day long ago. Terry
  9. The new "firm" price in this week's ad is $8500. Contact information is the same and I have no connection to the seller, just passing the info on. Terry
  10. Not quite in the same league but I have a new in the box Snap-on tabletop charcoal grill. It's great being married to the daughter of a Snap-on dealer! Terry
  11. Great American Race is usually held in June. This year it was June 18-26. Must have been an old car outing or rally you saw which is still very exciting to see especially with brass era cars. The 2017 Great American Race is June 24 to July 2 beginning in Jacksonville FL and ending inTraverse City MI. Terry
  12. The truck would make a nice yard art item. I would sure enjoy having it in my front yard and drive all my neighbors crazy. There's probably a 100 township ordinances I would be breaking but it would be so neat! Terry
  13. Bug eye Sprite! Nice find and interesting way to transport it. Terry
  14. The Sept issue of Hemmings Classic Car features a story and pictures of William Clay Fords personal Mk 2. Good photos and very interesting reading. Terry
  15. Similar to the one that was on my 1937 Dodge PU. Terry
  16. Sorry to hear of your health issues. Beautiful rare car, good luck with the sale. Terry
  17. It's neat to see things like this and speculate on how it might be used. I have an old Snap-on battery charger that I inherited from my late father in law back in the 1990s. The wheels on it have wide white walls so I always call it my antique battery charger! Terry
  18. This instruction card from the Civil Defense tells drivers what they should do in the event of an air rade warning while they are driving. It was issued in PA during the Cold War years 1951-1955 based on the governor's name shown on it. I was a young lad during that time and vaguely remember when air raid drills were held and the traffic came to a complete stop during them. Hope you enjoy this little piece of history. Terry
  19. My son grabbed these photos on his way to work, a Ford Model A project in process. Take a close look at where it's parked! Yes THAT Tesla company! My son is a mechanical engineer on the Tesla Model 3 project. Terry
  20. I'm not sure why a person who has the lenses to sell would ask such a high price for them knowing there is only one chance in 444 to sell them. If those lenses were mine to sell I would be glad to sell them to you at a more reasonable price knowing that you would probably be the only customer in the world for them. Terry
  21. I preferred two wheel exploring on a variety of motorcycles, mostly smaller displacement like 250 cc in the early days and then 750cc later. Finding out what was around the next bend was a life long passion. I always enjoyed the mid size bikes as they made you work a little more to get the most performance from them and fuel costs were never an issue. I sure miss those days! Terry
  22. Thanks for cleaning it up Matt. They sure keep you busy!
  23. Part number on the tank looks correct for late 1930s. Terry
  24. Congrats on your find and for saving another 4 door! Terry
  25. The Metz is again listed in the local farming newspaper. For the first time a price is listed. $9000 firm. Contact info is the same. Terry
