  1. My Godfather had the exact one, but it had the small block 350 in it..... I believe 3 years later during the gas crunch, he traded it in on one of these....
  2. Definitely ! That van has been "retired", it was the first and last time I towed with it.
  3. Thanks ! I ended up selling the Impala to a collector out in Ohio in 2015. I used the funds to purchase my ultimate Impala: a documented 1969 SS427. I've been collecting NOS parts for it over the past 8 years, hopefully within a year or so, I'll have it painted and then I'll show it at Hershey. Steve
  4. My father passed on December 25th, 2000.. I was 35, but in those 35 years, he was a huge influence on the type of antique vehicles that I have today. Mostly GM ( there was that time he purchased a '77 Cougar XR7 for Mom ) but in my early years / teenager years, it was Chevrolet.. he took the time and shown me the basic maintenance on how to do a tune-up, oil changes etc...later years, he saw me start the restoration of a '69 Impala, but passed before seeing it completed. So now I have a few antiques, all GM in my collection, they all take me back to a simpler time. So thanks to my Father, I'm hooked on this hobby and GM ! So, did your Father influence your passion for specific brand of antiques ? Steve
  5. Just amazing !! I can't believe how large this vehicle is..... what is the size of those tires ? Steve
  6. That would be great, thanks Steve ! Steve
  7. I never got to stop by the Research Center back in October while attending the Hershey Show, but out of curiosity, what vehicles are currently on display there ? I know that the 1908 Olds is there, but would enjoy seeing pictures of the other vehicles. I'm sure that the other members would enjoy seeing them as well. Thanks ! Steve
  8. I was thinking the same......is there a process of "scuffing" the surface so that it could be painted? I'm not positive, I thought seen it somewhere else.... Anyway, it's looking great Martin !
  9. It's looking great Chris..... any chance that you may be on the Hershey Show field this coming year ? I would really like to see your car in person! Steve
  10. That set up I had with the rented U-Haul trailer and my 1500 1/2ton van, scared the life out of me....it was my first time towing, had my wife and four kids with us traveling north on the NYS Thruway, when a tractor trailer passed me, I held on for dear life...lol
  11. Very nice set up! I like the look of the finish interior of the trailer.
  12. EmTee, I don't have a trailer....but once ( I hope ) I get a truck, I'll start looking into a trailer... I'm kinda leaning towards a enclosed trailer, only reason is that I had a bad experience about 10 years ago. I rented a U-haul trailer to take my 14 year restoration project that was just painted up to the Hemmings Motor News Concours show in Stratton Mountain, Vermont. Long story short, someone with a wedding band or something on their hand, went down the driver's side of my '69 Impala and over the trunk lid as well. If the car was in a enclosed trailer, it would of been safe.... I packed up the family and left ( I was devastated, could not understand why someone would do such a thing ) Steve Here is a picture at a rest stop on the New York State Thruway... my 2007 GMC Savana passenger van
  13. Hey Kerry - It would be towing for the cars that I have ( Monte Carlo / Impalas ). For local driving, I have a Honda that I use. We'll see what happens, a friend wants my old pickup truck, so if that sells, I'll have a good amount to put down on a nice pre-own 3/4 ton truck. Steve
  14. I'm down to the manufacture ( GM ), but regarding 2wd and 4wd, which one do you guys prefer ? Which is better ? Thanks again for the input !
  15. Looks like a beautiful car ! It just seems strange that it stopped working..... Matt, maybe call the previous owner, see if he had any issues as well ?
  16. I have a soft spot for the Javelin.... in 1982, a fellow that worked with my Dad was selling a 1974 AMC Javelin for $800 ! This became my first new car that I purchased on my own, not bad for a 17 year kid ! It had a blue exterior and blue interior, 304 V8 with a 3 speed on the floor, for a 8 year old car, it was already showing it's age with rust starting in the rear quarters and the top of both front fenders. Another family friend that did paint / body work at his home, fixed the rust issues and we had the color change from blue to white. That car had a lot of torque, it had no problems smoking those tires ( ask me how a know ..lol ), I always like the design of the car and thought that AMC was ahead of the game when it came to the design ! Steve
  17. So I started to look at preowned (GMC / Chevrolet ) I'm not too familiar with the Duramax Diesel, question for the GM owners, was there a certain year that I should stand clear of ? A lot of these Diesel's that are for sale have over 100k miles on them - well most of them do. What's the life span of a Diesel before a overall is needed ? I've never own a diesel, just drove some fire apparatus while in the fire service.... here is an example.... 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500LS, 123K miles on her.......... asking $25K Thanks !
  18. Martin - what's the HP rating on that big boy ?
  19. The positive: that dash looks beautiful ! It will come together Chris.... you doing amazing work !! Steve
  20. Yes.... when my Grandfather stopped driving, we ( me and my brother ) were gifted his 1980 Ford Pinto Wagon - not much value, It was brown with the wood grain vinyl going down both sides of the wagon. The car was like brand new, maybe under 10,000 miles on it ! Well it didn't last long.... my brother worked a second shift job and on his way home ( 2am ) he fell asleep at the wheel and hit a stone wall. He hit the wall so hard, it twisted the body, the rear hatch flew open, tool box and other items went out. Nothing left of the front end, but it was still running, he made it another few miles and the car over-heated. The car was totaled... All that I remember that night, Dad came in my bedroom, woke me up, he said " Let's go, I've been expecting this call ". Oh well.....I don't have a picture, but this is what they looked like: Steve
  21. Question: a friend of mine out in Nevada, has the same make and model year Impala like I have, Custom Coupe with a small block. A few months back, he went to start up the Impala and it would crank over, but then smoke started coming up from the negative battery cable. He asked if I had ever experience the same issue with my Impalas and told him no. Would this be a grounding issue from the firewall to the engine, a starter issue or something else ? Any help would be appreciate it! Steve
