  1. Check the underhood EPA tags. They will tell the year and what engine it has or had. Check the door jamb build date tag or post the car's VIN here. Some one will be able to tell the year ,engine and model.
  2. The KFOCI Kaiser Frazer Owners Club International maintains a registry of known Kaiser Frazer cars. You can go to their website and inquire.
  3. Around 1978 a guy brought me a beautiful low mileage 66 Electra with a terrible noise in the engine. Took it apart and two pistons were cracked with big chunks out of the skirts. New pistons and rings and it was fine with no damage to the cylinder walls.
  4. I used conventional 15W40 diesel spec oil for years in my 48 Loadmaster 235 tow truck with good results. It wasn't rebuilt but I knew it was clean inside. Those engines don't carry much oil pressure especially when hot.
  5. It may be possible to rebuild the original. If you take it out and bring it to a machine shop they might be able to save it. The nail head is a big part of the car's charm.
  6. Most 0W20 oil you see today is synthetic high detergent. I don't know how that would work out in an old babbit splash Chevy. Regular 20W20 might be a better choice especially with no oil filter.
  7. Manufacturers rated maximum engine horsepower at a specific RPM. Don't exceed that RPM rating for your car and you will be OK. Provided your engine is in good shape.
  8. The line that is circled is part of the choke heater. Vacuum from the carburator sucks hot air through the insulated steel line attached to the exhaust manifold. The circled line attaches to the exhaust manifold near the insulated line. It is supposed to provide a clean air supply to the choke heat tube. It rusted off the manifold. The last little bit of it is still in the manifold. Start the engine up cold and one of those small holes will have vacuum in it that you can feel with your finger. I have a 65 Park Lane Marauder but it is in storage so I can't get a picture right now. Page 8.82 of the shop manual, FIG 8 is a picture of the manifold part of it. It doesn't show the rest of it though.
  9. They used 10W30 and 10W40 when those cars were new. The engine was rebuilt? Then it should be clean inside. The previous owner used synthetic oil so it should be fine to continue with it. I have used Mobil 1 synthetic for 25 years in my original 65 Mercury and 56 Chevy with good results.
  10. I probably would. So long as the axle end play is OK. Too tight would be bad. A little too loose might be OK.
  11. The firewall like the inside of the trunk wasn't necessarily shiny. Like the trunk it was just painted but not buffed. They had varying degrees of shine from car to car. The radiators were semi gloss painted at Harrison so the shine didn't exactly match the inner fenders.
  12. Did Chrysler ever put a full size 61 Plymouth front on a 61 Dodge body in any plant anywhere ? I thought it was usually the other way around with the Dodge front on the Plymouth body.
  13. Got the booster back from Harmons in less than two weeks. Back together and on the road all is well.
  14. Thanks to all for the recommendations. Dewey has a five week turnaround but was cheaper. Harmon has two weeks. It's at Harmons now. Hoping to be back on the road before summer is over.
  15. What year is this? Does it have points? Even with two bad cylinders it should still start or at least backfire or shoot flames. As mentioned above it's probably a spark or fuel problem that affects all the cylinders.
  16. A Post car has door posts. It's not a pillarless hardtop. Not auto related, I hate the term "new normal".
  17. Jingles (Andy Devine) was with Wild Bill Hickok. Pat Buttram was with Gene Autrey. Pat Buttram was also Mr. Haney. Roy Rogers was a modern day cowboy.
  18. I saw this car at a show in the early sixties. They were selling color pictures of it. I think I still have the picture.
  19. Does anyone know where i can get a rebuilt brake booster for a 73 grand am with a 400 engine 6.6 L. It's a Delco Moraine unit. The listings I have say it has to not be a wagon and not a 455 V8. It also fits a few other GM intermediates 73 to 75. It doesn't fit all of any one model and is limited to certain engines and body styles. I have the original GM part # 2620599. ( i think) None of the rebuilders I have talked to have a core to rebuild. GrandAm is included in LeMans listings.
  20. Do you have good manifold vacuum to the modulator? You might want to just drive around some. Something might get warm and free up.
  21. The old Fordomatic normally starts in second then shifts to third. You are getting no upshifts at all ?
  22. I was told Louisiana Laws were based on French law. The rest of the states were based on English law.
  23. You know what year and model your car is. A Hollander interchange manual can tell you what other Year and model engines will fit. It also has a lot of information on the numbers.
  24. Those batteries have valuable elements in them that can't responsibly or safely be put in the dump. But for now a lot of them have negative recycle value.
