  1. Velocity governor made by King Seely usually with Ford script. Suppose to be a wire with lead on the adjustment knob (thats a seal) like the one on an electric meter. Turn clockwise to increase RPM & counter clockwise to decrease. I set mine to 3,000 rpm with a tack. sam
  2. Far as tires, I suspect the shop recommended tires maybe for a long trip maybe whitewalls don't know. As far as the workers, I was plowing snow next door dinner and saw the car. Some church owns the property and contents so no doubt they hired or free labor church people. Being a millionare and not a car guy, a set of tires equills a box of cigares.
  3. What to do with this one. Right down my street there is a 5,000 mile 1950 Packard. Story is a local millionare large textile factory (in town) In 1951 he had his chapher (can't spell that-driver) brought to this garage for a set of tires. Now at the same time a huge labor strike trying to get a union (fires- tiped over cars like gangsters) So the ole man pulled the plug and moved to So Carolina. At present all involved are deseased. I personally knew all involved and know this property was willed to a church & I do not know the church, however the garage been boarded up for 15yrs the Packard has not moved a whisker since 1951 Its still on the lift, because I saw it last winters blizzard when they put more plywood that blew off the building. So how would one get a new Packard like this? I Suppose to get it , maybe over $500,000 to buy the property, and the property is not zoned for business (was grandfathered) and no one would pay that for a small house lot just for the car. Impossible to get a title for this one. Most likely they will flaten the building car and all..someday.
  4. The fire was in 1953, because we had to replace the 53 engine with another i don't remember the year, but it was all different cause it had a dyna flow in it & the replacement had hydromatic. Something to do with the crank bolt pattern was different for the converters
  5. I'm pretty sure thats correct but in the back of my mind, but I'm still seeing the same front mount on a new 59 Plymouth flat head six ? I could be wrong but I see no side mounts on a flathead until the slant six came along. good question sam
  6. I have the whole article with pics but can't find them. 1958 Mercury base 'Medalist' I think. Something said about Lincoln brakes 100 amp alternatorJ code 430 super marauder tri power now extremely rare. Multi Drive, Just to think now, back in high school I had a three yr old 58 Park Lane conv. J code tri power constant problems keeping carbs in sync so in the trash it went replaced with a 4 barrel intake & Holley. then it ran well. Other day on ebay just the tri air cleaner $2900 bucks. oh boy....BUT back then it could be bought local Linc Merc dealer ....
  7. Nice one on E bay right now.........................
  8. this was answered in the general section forum
  9. like this. My father bought this 1936 in 1937. When sealed beams came out around 1940 he installed these "Guide" lights.
  10. ? just what info your need- its all in a common "Motors" repair book. BG 241 just a smaller version of a BG 264
  11. Although you used a test light , I use a voltmeter to find if it is putting out a true 6 plus volts. Markings of 12vt Delco don't mean it hasn't been tweeked to put out 6vts its done all the time in a 12 vt housing. Maybe they forgot to grind off the 12vt marking...And then if it is truly 12vts? damage will be done unless there's a reducer 12 to 6 hidden somewhere.
  12. Oh man I'd sell my bones to own that one.. I think I have a couple of those vac.clutch's somewhere. They are pretty well bullet prof . That little pendulum has to be lubed with light oil time to time.
  13. Question for Marty, babbit bearings in 320 ci Buicks? Then how come I have many many rod and main inserts on the shelf? we bought around 1948 or so..written on the FM boxes?. Back to this post, I have been using 10-40 Royal Purple with no problems 1923 Ford sam
  14. Answer; 1985 Ford equals 30 yrs old plus a 5 dollar brake line !!
  15. I think its the material it was made out of not only your vehical but a lot of different makes. I have good results with any good spray cleaner first black gooey stuff then after dry I wipe it with floor wax. Not a permanent fix, just give it a wipe time to time.
  16. Don't laugh , but along with a couple quarts of lacquer thinner and 3/4" stone, I stuck the whole thing in a cement mixer (tied down in there) run for awhile then turned the tank around then a good soapy water wash. Perfect. sam
  17. OK Dave couple more views sam oh oh second pic is sideways ?????
  18. cell phone violation, the fine is to get launched back in the early 1950's, they they all can learn how to use a phone booth !
  19. ??? and they forgot the bellhousing ???
  20. So you want to cruise along at 60-65 and purring like a kitten. Here's what I did. If you can find a complete rear end from a 1970's Comet or Ford the one equil to a Comet (I used a Mercury Comet a guy gave me. It has to be from a standard shift ; automatic ratio is too high. The hydralic brake line threads right in the Plymouth. The Plymouth rims or wires bolt right on, the width is the same. All we had to do is splice the drive shaft. The Plymouth shaft slides right in the Ford drive shaft. End result, better stopping, sweet cruising lower rpms, gas mileage and 70 Hp will handle it just fine. I did this in or around mid 1980s although I sold it, its still doing fine today as I speak. Oh we did use the axle spring hangers from the Plymouth and welded on the Ford axle = Ford perches were too wide. sam I still can't remember what Ford same as a Comet perhaps Mavrick?? same axle anyways / can't remember ratio either maybe 3:86 or 3:90's?
  21. Well here's where I grew up this is the first station in the area, and its now the only one that is full service , I mean engine rebuilding machine shop. My father built this in 1935 still going strong. sam my father on left my uncle right
  22. Oddly I am working on one of these dreaded Dodge based things right now. I have worked on gazzilions of these. You won't believe how they slam banged these, like staples threw wires, pinched water lines. This one another electrical nightmare.
  23. Just my experience. I had running hot problems with a 33PD with no thermostat. When the thermo closes it just gives time to cool the radiator then go through the cycle again.
  24. Hi neighbor from Mass, 20 min from Prov, come and see the dent in my roof F350 at 20mph from getting launched with my head potholes ruts they are never going to get out of this (billions $) to resurface. time to break out my Model T
