  1. What are you using for coolant? If you are running a 50/50 mix, consider upping the percent of water as it is better for heat transfer. I run 70/30 in my 1930, along with WaterWetter when it is hot. It not only runs cooler, it recovers faster.
  2. I totally agree with you that there's a need to share knowledge and have a sense of community among specific car-type owners. What I think you might be missing is that this takes place outside of the “Club" setting. As much as I dislike Facebook, the car model specific groups on there contain a wealth of knowledge, are populated with people looking to help and are free. I own five cars that were never sold in the US. Parts availability can be challenging and most repair manuals are not in English. I'd be lost without Facebook. I can ask a question and get an answer or ten within a few hours. Instead of paying club dues, group members make a contribution by adding to the knowledge base available.
  3. I have two vehicles I tow with, a VW Touareg diesel and a 3/4-ton Silverado with a big-block and an Allison transmission. I'd guess the VW is more in line with what you can expect from from a midsized truck. Most of my towing is a single axle trailer rated at 3,500lbs. The biggest problem is I occasionally forgetting the trailer is there. It's that good. When I need to move a bigger car, I have an enclosed trailer with two 5200lbs axles. I've towed this with both vehicles and the Touareg actually handles it better under normal conditions. It's rated at tow 7,716lbs, but I doubt I've ever been over 6,000lbs. That said, I only use the Touareg with the big trailer under optimal conditions, like no wind, short trips, no major elevation changes and weight under 6,000lbs. That's the criteria I'd use to decide if the Colorado is right for you.
  4. It’s quicker to just say you don’t have data to support your belief. 😂
  5. Both. A better explanation is "heat transfer". Water takes heat from the block and releases it at the radiator more efficiently then a mixture of anti-freeze and water. I use a 30/70 mix in my Buick in hot weather because it cools better then a 50/50 mix while maintaining the anti-corrosive and lubricity benefits of anti-freeze. Here's a chart from WaterWetter that illustrates the point.
  6. A) Nobody is suggesting to run straight water. B ) You are wrong that antifreeze runs cooler. C) Please do post a link to data that shows coolant cools better than water. If I'm wrong, I'd appreciate the correction.
  7. As you will see, there is generally universal agreement on what fluids are best. 😉 With regards to coolant, something to consider is what mix you want to use. Straight, distilled water is better for heat transfer then a 50/50 mix, which means your car will run cooler. In the hotter weather, I run 30/70 in my Buick. It still has anti-corrosive properties and lubricity in the mix (certainly more then what was used in 1928), but cools and recovers quicker.
  8. According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune: "the museum will have another four months to move to a new place."
  9. This car sold on Bring a Trailer in February for $111,000 plus buyers premium. The would-be buyer posted that it was totaled by the shipper's insurance company. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1962-chevrolet-corvette-195/
  10. I’d call it “mostly original (hood and trunk lid repainted)”
  11. Based on the edit history, the price was added four hours ago, after my post.
  12. Is the vin on the title the number on the block? If so, what’s the real year of the car?
  13. I merely said it was interesting that there were no assets on the Form 990. I have a theory on why, but I don't want to speculate. With regards to doing a forensic audit, that's not possible because the museum lost it's tax exempt status in 2013 and didn't get it reinstated until the end of 2019. This means there is no reporting available before 2019. I will say it's very odd that the second oldest car museum in the country does not own a single artifact.
  14. This is an information rich topic, so tell me if I should stop going down the rabbit hole... Another interesting thing on their Form 990 is they show "Other Assets" as $4,820. This is the line that would include the value of the collection. For comparison, the AACA Museum shows $10,347,069 on theirs. Below is a side-by-side breakdown of the categories for this asset class. Notice something missing in Sarasota? Like...........all the cars. this
  15. Want more? According to their Form 990, all of the Officers, Directors and Trustees of this non-profit are Martin and his son Blake. Nobody else.
  16. So that’s another caution flag on this situation. The museum was a non-profit, but it sublet a portion of the building to a for-profit car business. Both seemingly controlled by Mr. Godbey.
  17. When you agree to be on a month-to-month lease, you know you might only have a month to leave. I'm on the side of "there is more to the story". A search of court cases shows Mr. Godbey was no stranger to legal proceedings. He lost a $245,000 judgment to a Mark Smith and on another occasion, Mecum Auctions was instructed to garnish his proceeds to settle a suit. Maybe most telling about how the business was run is the language below from the appeal of yet another case: Indeed, Vintage Motors' principal, Martin Godbey, represented to MAC Enterprises that the buyer had refused to close on the sale and that Vintage Motors still had possession of the Porsche. Mr. Godbey later admitted he had stonewalled the owner of MAC Enterprises for forty-five days about the status of the sale: "I led Mr. [Mac]Donald to believe that the closing of the car was going on longer than it did." Vintage Motors also ignored MAC Enterprises' request to return the Porsche.
  18. Sir Mix-A-Lot, your Buick is ready…..
  19. I went to what I think was my 37th Indy 500 last weekend. I started going when my dad took me as a kid in '78 and went every year but one, right up to "The Split". I was also fortunate enough to work in the sport at that time and found the whole thing to be like a gut-punch. We returned in '03 by which time a lot had changed and the event was greatly diminished. But honestly, I think it's better now then ever. The crowd is definitely smaller, but huge regardless. The Speedway is a magical place that went on life support for a while. I'm glad to see it has returned to a stature befitting of the "Greatest Spectacle" billing.
  20. If you look on the Illinois Secretary of State web site, it shows they filed an annual report last week.
