  1. When I use a Uhaul trailer, I take a can of "Fix-A-Flat" with. I wouldn't want to use this to complete my journey, but it might be enough to get me to a safer place to deal with the issue. And +1 on getting the insurance. There's no cheaper peace of mind then that. Something else I've noticed is that Uhaul franchisees seem to take better care of equipment then the corporate locations do. They are local owners who have skin in the game. The corporate stores have high turnover and mostly miserable employees, in my experience.
  2. Here’s some pictures. It looks like the part number on the top is 1527898. Hope this helps.
  3. While this is generally true, Bugatti and Indian seem to be heathy after their reintroductions. Scout will be reintroduced in a few years.
  4. Here’s an oddball for someone up North. https://shackeltonauctions.hibid.com/lot/171850957/rare-1958-packard-4-door-station-wagon?ref=catalog Only 156 built.
  5. I wasn’t able to take a picture on Monday. Sorry about that. I should be able to over the weekend.
  6. As much as I prefer not to use it, I’ve found Facebook groups to be the best place to discuss newer cars or vehicles with a limited following. The biggest problem isn’t finding the right group, it’s choosing from the multiple ones that cover the topic.
  7. I can look at mine Monday and see if there is a part number, or I can post a picture.
  8. Saying you're trying to educate yourself is difficult for me to accept. You interpreting the linked article's headline "Georgia Hammers Down On Imported Cars As It Reminds Officials To Ban The Titling Of Japanese Kei Cars" as being about KIAs shows a lack of inquiry. And, if you are still educating yourself, why argue the issue is not relevant to the AACA? They are registered by the 1,000's in the US and enthusiasts for these cars are in the tens-of-thousands. It is germane to the old car hobby because they are over 25 years old. Isn't that the AACA's qualification for eligibility? Also, are cars " not originally imported into the USA for street use" disqualified from AACA eligibility or concern? Respectfully, I didn't start a new topic because all that would earn me is superficial counterarguments from you. Incidentally, it is important enough to me that I emailed Mel about this and received no response more then a week later. I also will continue to pursue this outside of the AACA where the definition of old cars seems more realistic.
  9. Candidly, this is the response I would expect. You clearly didn't read the article or you would have seen the answers to the questions you posed. If the numbers can be counted on fingers and toes, my family owns 40% of the entire kei fleet in America. Also, does rarity exclude a car from the AACA's concern? This category of car is extremely popular among young enthusiasts (who the AACA seems incapable of attracting). For you to summarily dismiss them, particularly as a person with an official roll in the organization, is a bit appalling. Guess what else has less the a 13-digit VIN? My Model T. Look at the language from the Georgia statute below and tell me how many cars on the Hershey show field, if substituted for "kei", would be permanently parked. This should be alarming for anyone serious about preserving our ability to use classic cars on the road. Hemmings felt compelled enough about it to write an article. If an issue is "complicated" as you claim this is, I'd suggest educating yourself before taking a position.
  10. Really? What are they and how are they less of a hobby car then an Isetta, Messerschmidt or Crosley? I drove a Kei car in an AACA tour last month. Strange they have an exhibit at the Lane Motor Museum at this very moment. (Or that I drove one of theirs in the Lane Rally).

  12. Certainly a problem with an excess of manure on the forum of late…😂
  13. Very cool. Thanks for sharing. I’m smitten by the Renault 17 for reasons I can’t explain (or understand).
  14. I'm similar to you in that I have an NC (3rd gen) Miata. It's such a great car, I generally prefer driving it to anything else when it's top-down weather. Because of this, I find I prefer the bodystyle that worked best for a given design. In my eye, a C2 Corvette coupe is nicer then the convertible. The flipside is a E-Type Jag is nicer as a convertible then a coupe. I don't own either, but if I were shopping, that's how I'd decide. I also don't like driving with the top down on hot, sunny days, so some of the benefit of a convertible is lost on me.
  15. I'd guess I've been going intermittently for about 20 years. My co-conspirator for this year's show had to cancel on me, so I'm not sure if I'll be there. I go to buy stuff I didn't know I needed and to be surrounded by car people. You can't sit on a bench for more then 5 minutes without meeting someone interesting to chat with about cars. While it does seem like the show is shrinking, they've done a good job keeping vendors car focused.
  16. Interesting. I need to get under mine to see if the tank size is due to space constraints. I’d be a happy guy if I could gain another 5 gallons with a swap. I couldn’t find the EPA rating for my ‘06. I’d bet the aerodynamics of a Suburban are far better then my truck and account for the 3MPG improvement you have on the highway.
  17. It's a ladder jack, presumably for holding a scaffold and violating OSHA.
  18. Congrats on the sale. This generation of GM truck seems to have gained in value in the last few years. I'm sure part of it is the supply issue and high prices of new trucks. But beyond this, I think these are the peak of analog trucks before complications like displacement-on-demand and more computer systems. If you read the comments on Bring a Trailer when one is up for auction, there's a lot of love for them. The pre-DEF diesels seem particularly desirable. This reminds me of something I read a while ago that farmers were opting for older tractors instead of buying new because of the simplicity of repairs. To clarify, my issue isn't the MPG, its the gas tank size.
  19. A request presented with all due respect: Any chance you might consider shortening your signature a bit? Candidly, it's longer then your posts and annoying to be forced to look at these same pictures repeatedly. This is particularly true when looking at the forum on a phone.
  20. I’m pretty sure yours is a 5-speed Allison. 2006 has a 6-speed.
  21. I've also got an 8.1 in my 2006 Chevy 2500HD. I think this was the only year it was mated with it the 6-speed Allison transmission. The truck is a beast, but a thirsty one. As the saying goes, "it'll pass anything on the road,...but a gas station". The only downside is the 26 gallon gas tank give me range anxiety when I'm towing.
