Did you make it to the awards or did you leave after the show? I had to get 'up on stage' to give away the 50/50 & quilt that got raffled off. I didn't quite make it to every person (so spread out & the heat was awful-my legs about gave up on me!).The guys that worked on the dash plaques really put a lot of work into it. They also had done the brochure & layed out the meet book. I know they were having a fight with their publisher program on their computer, so it was pretty rough going for them. They were using something other that MS Publisher, so I wasn't much help in that department, but I did help on a few of the graphics when they asked.I'll be downloading my pictures today & should be getting more photos from other members by the end of the week, & I'll post some of the best shots as I get 'em.I also got some video of Earl fiddling around at the pizza dinner on Thursday night - got half the tune before my camera ran out of memory & had to change memory sticks.Did you get to check out the Scarab that showed up?Hope you had fun <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! You got to a few areas that I hadn't gotten to yesterday.I know what you mean about it being hard to take photos with so much going on(me especially with doing 50/50 & running my mouth!!)I didn't get home 'til close to midnight last night, & could barely keep my eyes open. Terry Bond Posted July 17, 2006 Share Posted July 17, 2006 Susan and I just got home and didn't want the weekend to come to an end. It was a great time in Asheville and the Gt. Smoky Mountains Region deserves a hearty contratulations for hosting such a great meet. They pulled all this together in less than an year with a small region. I know it was a lot of work but hopefully it will inspire others to host similar events. Its absolutely great to see parts of the country that you normally wouldn't get to. Of course a highlight for that area is a visit to Biltmore. As usual, I managed a super antique shop find - a very early hand painted sign that will go nicely with my '12 Triumph motorcycle advertising an early British cycle dealer. The meet had nearly 400 cars spread out across a college campus. Big thanks to Dick Jones and the team for making it a big success. Hope everyone had safe travels home. Had to deal with some reports with the sheriff. I'm just grateful they only took $6 in change jar & two replaceable items. Whowever did this was very discrete-no signs of forceable entry, locked the door on the way out, put change jar back where they found it, & put the shoes back in the front of the bed where we hid our shotgun & revolver (what they stole) so we didn't notice it until I went to drop some change into our change jar. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> I'll work on the photos so maybe I'll not think about what I wanna do to some uninvited idiot who was in my house...... Dick Jones and staff did a great job with the meet, also. I showed up around 6:15am and set up "squatter's rights" at the top of the hill so no one would park in my pre-approved improv "studio." Good thing, too, as there were a few people who tried to work their way around my car, which was parked sideways in the roadway to prevent such. One person actually succeeded in breaking through the barracade. It was perfect, as I had a nice old "carriage house" garage to use as a background for the older cars, a tree-lined gravel courtyard for sports cars, an old barn/shed for some muscle-cars, and the Great Smoky Mountains for some variety. Wow. North Carolina is one of the prettiest states. (The snarley roads around Asheville are a bit confusing, though.)A big thank-you to Peter Hiezmann, also, who helped organize the cars I selected as they came up for the special photo shoot. Peter also helped at Dover. It's much too big of a job to do alone, so I can't thank him enough. Hopefully some of these photos will make it into the September-October issue as features, in addition to show coverage. I'm sure a few will be in the official 2007 AACA Appointment Calendar. Really nice to have the expert judges looking at the cars. Novaman, I didn't see another Nova at the show; but I guess I didn't get to see all the vehicles. We never made it up to the A fields. The late storm cut the day a little short. I haven't seen so many beautiful cars in one place in a long time! Wish I had more time to look around. Seems like the cars get better at every meet. The GSMR did a great job of putting on the meet. Lot's of thought went into the directions and it was really appreaciated, of course, I still got lost every day. Just want to thank the people that responded to my questions over the past month about AACA requirements. I could not stay Saturday night for the awards due to having to work Sunday. I was really shocked when Bill Wright called me Sunday to come over to his house to pick up my 1st place trophy. Still in awe that I won. Out of all the local car shows I've placed in, this meet was the most important. I enjoyed meeting a lot of nice people, including Meet Chairman Dick Jones and Steve Moskowitz. I was quite happy to receive my First Junior for our 1929 Model A Ford Phaeton. Normally there is a form in your registration packet to fill out so someone can pick up your award. There was none this time. So, I should be getting (hope, hope <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) something in the mail.Overall, Great Smokey Mountain Region did a great job. Normally, these meets are planned over a year in advance. My understanding is this was all done in 9 months!As for the traveling between the show field and hotel, I had no problems from the hotel to the field. Friday, I dropped my trailer off and sipped right over to the hotel. Friday evening I made a run over to the field so mom would know how to get there Saturday while Dad and I were at Judge's Breakfast. Helping each other to restore/show/maintain these old vehicles. My dad and I went to two other AACA member's homes the week before and looked over thier vehicles.
