Clever license plates

Friar, I just love the crisp sound of those old diesel engines clacking away. The new Mercedes's diesels are so quiet!!! I guess the turbo screaming kind of makes up for the lack of dddddd sound of years gone by... Vanity plate on my Excursion DIESEL >> KRK Sr.

My brother has "C" on his 300C, and my father has "Ferrari" on his VW Karmann Ghia. My father also has "Packard" on his Packard, "Cadillac" on his Cadillac, "Lincoln" on his Lincoln, "5" on his '05 REO, "6" on his '66 Mercedes, "8" on his other Packard, "9" on another Cadillac, and 10 on yet a third Cadillac.

When I lived in Atlanta, being a baseball fan and a Hank Aaron fan, I had "44" on my daily driver and "15" on my Datsun Z. For my wife's daily driver, I put on "22" (She's very young at heart, and young looking as well). She was embarrassed with it, so I took it off.

I saw this one today: IDNTDOIT

Years ago we saw a small car with DINGHY on it as they pulled the RV it was behind into the campground where we were. It was really all we could do not to laugh when the guy's wife exited the RV and she was blonde. Turns out it's her car that they tow. grin.gif

West, if your father had all those vanity plates here in RI, he'd have to re-mortgage his house. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

My 89 Caprice has license #154-897,

My 90 Caprice has #154-897

My 2005 GMC Pickup has #154-897

My 1988 Conquest also has #154-897 <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Don't tell anybody, but I'm saving a lot of money. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Wayne,

I believe you would jeopardize an insurance payout if you car was improperly plated at the time of an accident.

I run the same risk on one of my cars, too. It's cheaper for me to pay 3 $100 tickets annually for driving on an expired plate than it is to renew the plate on my BMW 750il. I've already paid over $6,000 in plate fees since I bought it in '88.

Barry, I was kidding. I just told my wife that some serious fellow from the Midwest will probably have the Virginia cops beating down my door tomorrow for defrauding the state. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Six or seven years ago, there was a news blurb here in Ohio about a plate that the state had approved, then confiscated six months later: 3M TA3 Doesn't mean much until you see it in your rear view mirror!

I must be off..

I got tired of people asking if the 1939 black Buick Roadmaster with dual sidemounts was a Cadillac or a Packard. The plate "A Buick" ended all those questions!!

About 20 years ago, I saw a Corvair Turbo Spyder on the Eisenhower Expressway near Chicago with what I consider the ultimate license plate strikeback. It read "R Nader"!!!

This is probably similar to scams some local municipalities are using. Even if you've paid a ticket, a few years later, you may be billed again for the same ticket. Unless you've saved your receipt or check, you have no way of proving you paid it and they'll get you again.

Save all your information on paid tickets.

Several years ago, I got a ticket from Philadelphia. This was a common scam for Philly to send tickets to residents in the Pittsburgh area. My wife demanded to know when I was in Philadelphia. I said I wasn't. She said "Why would they send you a ticket if you weren't there?". I looked at the ticket a little closer. I had both cars in my name for insurance purposes - the ticket was issued against the car she drove. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

She stammered and said I knew she hadn't been to Philadelphia.

I said "Why would they send you a ticket if you weren't there?". One of the few times she was speechless <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Back around the begining of the year my parents got a parking ticket from the city of Atlanta, GA. It was issued to my mom's NC antique auto license plate number. But the ticket stated it was a Jeep and the ticket was issued something like 3 or 4 years before. Well mom didn't have her car (a Dodge)at that time, much less having that tag number. My parents got a letter from the NCDMV and sent it to Atlanta, and it stated that they didn't have that tag number when the ticket was issued.

Several years ago my step-daughter had an accident in Mass. where she lives. She was found to be at fault and was supposed to lose her license for sixty days. She never received a notice, so she kept driving. She drove for three years with a clean record. Her record prior to the accident was clean also. Then she gets a notice to surrender her license for sixty days. I had her to send them a letter and ask them to consider her current clean driving record, the fact that she had a son in school now that she had to tranport (too young to walk alone and not far enough away to ride a bus) and that she had finally gotten a good paying job. Was there a way she could do community service? They did not go for that but at least they did cut the time to thirty days.

About 8 years ago i saw one that said U812.

My preference would be a plate void of ANY numbers or letters. Only the standard state labeling and graphics at top and bottom or background. I tried to get such a plate a few years ago when i had some "inside tracks" but the state of TN has a 3 character minimum and the the request was caught at the county level and it was about 3 feet from my hand when the county clerk discovered it and refused to issue it to me. So much for my "inside tracks".
