Bill Stoneberg
Is this the lake where they had to rescue Ice fisherman ? I heard a story on NPR about that and they were talking about a pickup truck that had gone into the water.

R W Burgess
Clean? Didn't know they had any clean water in New York. Wayne
1937hd45
Careful Wayne! Some of "The Boys" may show how clean that water is across the border from me. New York City has one of the finest water systems around.

R W Burgess
Let's see Scott. I'll bet John says; going in is easy..down hill, almost falls in. Coming out? Lack of good traction and definitely uphill. Let's see though, if that "swimmer" runs 15 miles per hour in water and you don't let up on the gas, she should go half way out of the surf on her own, like a skier heading for the beach. Tighten up the seat belts, boys! I guess I don't get to drive it now John, right? Shucks! Wayne

Approach the beach or ramp, as you get 20-30' from shore, push in the clutch, engage land trans (leave props engaged) release clutch. As you feel the wheels touch land, give a small amount of throttle and drive on out. The Amphicar's 1st gear is rated for a 42 degree incline. They do beach landings with ease and are very adept off roaders as well. (Eleven inches of clearance, not many vehicles can say that)I was referring to what a lot of people say. "Cool a car that drives into the water!" I always answer "the real trick is driving out. Any car can drive into the water, but only an Amphicar can drive out!

Quote:

Let's see Scott. There is a Pepsi commercial from 1968 with an Amphi going in at 50 MPH! I might let ya drive it, but only after the new and improved, super dooper extra intense, Amphi-driving lessons have been successfully mastered! R W Burgess
John, Re:"I might let ya drive it, but only after the new and improved, super dooper extra intense, Amphi-driving lessons have been successfully mastered!" Gee John, I guess that would require a trip to Colorado? Wait a minute, I drive on snow and ice all the time, water should be easy! Thanks for the stated instruction. After we all master driving on land, we'll call you! Wayne

Ron Green
Wayne, I am taking my Amphicar to the AACA Hagerstown Maryland meet that runs June 17 to the 19. I will be coming in town probably Friday the 18th early. If there is water close maybe we can get some of us together and go for a swim. Now is there any water close to Hagerstown? ex98thdrill
I always thought that Shepard Ford was good at "soaking" their customers. This just goes to prove it. - for the non-locals, Shepard Ford is the local Ford dealer (Canandaigua, NY)that just happens to be right next to the outlet where this truck took a swim.
