For Sale: 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire 2dr Hardtop - $16,000 - Buckeye, AZ

1964 oldsmobile starfire for sale by owner - Wittmann, AZ - craigslist
Seller's Description:

Top of the line Olds for 64'. Introduced as part of a new breed of automobiles, the personal luxury car market. Oldsmobile took it a step further by adding some sport and muscle to the Starfire. Only available in 2 door hardtop and 2 door convertibles. Still equipped with the original 350 hp high compression (big block) 394 cubic inch V8. A four-barrel carburetor, real leather bucket seats with a console mounted shifter and a built-in tachometer! Just a fantastic package and one that is highly sought after today.
This particular example is a very nice one but not perfect which makes it affordable. A turnkey, cruiser with some cosmetic defects. An older restoration with good, operable components. I'd guess this car was painted 20 or 30 years ago. The paint is older and shows some wear. Small scratches and chips. Some minor touch ups. The body itself is and always appears to have been VERY solid. The undercarriage and frame are SUPER clean.
The interior of this car is what really shines. It's virtually spotless with beautiful and original leather bucket seats. Perfect door and side panels and a nice headliner and dashboard. The carpet is a correct period replacement with the built in floor mats which is model accurate. Has power steering, power brakes, no factory AC. Have some receipts for recent work including original window sticker and sales invoice from 1964.
Mechanically you have nothing to worry about. A fresh tune-up and oil change. A newly rebuilt carburetor. Newer rear springs and shocks all around. Full brake service stops quick and even. Brand new tires. Previous owner advised they had the transmission a few years ago but I can't verify it. Brand new battery from Interstate direct vs big box cheaper version, purchased in December 2023. Aftermarket temp gauge as well instead of indicator light. All gauges, radio, and original vacuum wipers work. This car starts right up, drives and runs fantastically. Lots of power.
120k original miles, open to trade. No motorcycles, ATVs, or side by sides. Just ask, you never know. Clean AZ title. $16,000 obo

I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1964 Oldsmobile Starfire 2dr Hardtop.

It's been dressed up a bit with the spinner caps and the AM-FM radio- which surprisingly doesn't have rear speaker- but they're correct for 1964.

Trunk lining is missing the cardboards. They're available reproduction so no reason to not have them. Same with the missing script on left front fender.

Look close at the picture of the oil pan. The chambered exhaust pipes are still in place after 60 years. The front resonators have been replaced with generic mufflers and rear resonators appear to have been eliminated, but those chambered pipes are what defines a 1964 Starfire more than anything else.

I know of only two 64s that have their correct chambered pipe and resonator exhaust- my green coupe and John Diaz's in Louisiana- though a few have retained their original chambered pipe sections combined with mufflers as this one has.

Wonder how long this Starfire has been in the dry Southwest? From looks of the undercarriage and rear bumper I'd say a long time.

$16K isn't an unreasonable price but I'm thinking $12-13k is more in line considering the mileage and nitpicky details like the trunk liner and missing script.

This same car was previously listed for sale on Ebay by Orphan Cars in Abington, MA for $13,900. It was marked SOLD three times from Nov. 8-Dec. 7, 2023.  There is a video of it that can be viewed on YouTube from that MA seller if anyone's interested. However, the pictures in the current AZ ad are the exact same pictures from the earlier MA Ebay seller so something's up, i would proceed with extreme caution on this one. As a sideline I don't think this car is that nice and it's certainly not detailed enough in the engine & trunk areas to justify it's $16K price tag. And 1958 was the last year Oldsmobiles had vacuum wiper motors (end of last paragraph in ad.) You can clearly see see the correct electric motor in place on the firewall. BEWARE.

Nice looking car, price is about what I sold my 63 Starfire for a few years ago, although my car was a lot more loaded. The seats are definitely NOT original or leather, which they should be. The 64 has a lot of hard to find diecast chrome trim and I would want to see pictures of its condition. That horrible trunk and bald spare don't help the sales effort.

Am I the only one that hates those?  I see them a lot.

You are not. Unfortunately some people think the farther they stick out the better they look. 😖

The background in those pictures certainly don't look anything like the Wittmann or Buckeye, Arizona area.

I agree with 55er, something is definitely sketchy with this sale.

The real Whittman should look something like this ay @AzBob ;)

The new photos do show an AZ backdrop. Either it sold to someone in AZ or that is one hell of a photoshop. Anything is possible so I agree, proceed with great caution.

The more I look, the more flaws in the paint that I'm seeing... noticeable waves, and that buldge on the right front fender above the wheel is hard to look away from...

and the trunk looks blocked with 80 grit lol and the stains above the OLDS section of the chrome tell me those might be rust stains that wouldn't buff out. I'm guessing there's a lot of plastic under the paint.

The new pictures show another niggling detail that would drive someone familiar with these cars nuts. That's a 63 "Starfire" script on the decklid.

Someone has put 1963 chrome rocker arm covers on it too. Nice dressup touch but they should be painted same color as the aircleaner.

Yup. Lot of paint and detail issues. Not seeing the asking money here esp if we're looking at a repaint.

Though I would offer him a couple grand for that rear bumper and taillight panel!😁
