George Smolinski
WRONG! It was 1949. See below - The 1949 Mustang on display at an unknown local department store. It was built in Renton, Washington by the Mustang Engineering Corporation and came out in January, 1949, almost a year before Volkswagen came out with the Transporter/Bus. It had a 4 cylinder Hercules 59hp engine that got 25 to 35 miles per gallon. It had a 6-Passenger, rust-proof, aluminum body and could cruise at 65mph. 7
Steve_Mack_CT
Meanwhile, looks like the two guys on the far left side of the picture are from marketing: "How do you think we are doing Williams?" "Well I have my application in at Ford, GM, & Chrysler. What does that tell you Robertson?"

CHuDWah
Well, you didn't specify Mustang car, so the P-51 Mustang was 1940. 😁 1

JamesR
Imagine if Ford had introduced that in mid-1964! 😄 6 passenger, 59 horsepower and a cruising speed of...65 mph. Yeah, right. Maybe with a projected engine life of 400 hours. Edited August 18, 2023 by JamesR (see edit history)

At least there are two large front emergency ejection hatches in case of a head-on crash.
JohnS25
Looking at the picture, it looks like the steering wheel is in the center, I’ll bet that split windshield gets annoying
Reynard
This picture was obviously taken in a department store. Ref: the bin of sweaters, the elevator doors, the refrigerator, and the "sale" sign between them. A great place to introduce a new car🙃
