85 Buick Lesabre.  Olds 307 V8.  37,800 miles. Runs fantastic. Car never had rust or body work but was painted. It is kept in a climate controlled garage. Car has been kept as close to original as possible. We did add a pinstripe that was hand painted under the clear. Pinstripe not factory but looks real sharp. Thought I would share it.    Buicks because they were good for 500,000 miles, which appealed to me.

   I bought a 1983 Buick LeSabre with 63 K miles that was T-Boned hard in the front passenger door.   That was 1996 and it was

   only 13 years old.   I used the engine, transmission, steering column and some small parts.   I scrapped the throttel body Fuel     Injection and put a 1977 Buick intake a Quadrajet on instead.

   Finished in 1999 with 1985 Buick Regal SW trailing arm coil spring rear end..   It's been a delightful car to drive for 23 years!   

   Only non-Buick component was the 1978 Mustang II V8 rack & pinion front end with the Buick Disc's & Calipers.    Only gets

   about 15 MPG while my friend's 1984 Buick LeSabre gets 29-30, maybe I should have kept the throttel body.

That was when GM would slap a vinyl roof on anything, whether or not it complemented the car's styling. This one shows what the stylists intended. Nice.

 

I'll allow that GM built its share of utter garbage in this era, but the 77-85 B and C cars were good cars. Underpowered for sure, but the four I've had were all dead reliable and one 307-powered Pontiac Safari would routinely deliver 24 mpg. Really hated when that uninsured Eagle Talon ran a red light and t-boned that wagon hard enough to bend its rear axle. The 5 years and 90k miles I drove it, it simply never needed anything other than routine maintenance.

And these GM B-bodies still looked svelte as compared with the 1976 models they replaced.  It's interesting how the '77 down-sizing brought back sharp body lines and crisp corners, while the '80s smoothed everything and evolved to the 'aero-jellybean' look.  Today, sharper/crisper styling seems to be coming back.

I owned a Light Brown metallic 1984 LeSabre 2dr Limited with the 307 -- see my avatar for a photo of the brown interior. Wonderful car, perfect cruiser for driving 3-4 hours across the state. Sold it when my needs changed, the buyer repainted it white (who knows why) and then totaled it a month after buying it.
