The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975, edited by John Gunnell states 650 Imperial convertibles built for the combined 1951-1952 model years.

And actually, Imperial convertibles were made only

for the 1951 model year.  There were none in 1952,

and it wasn't until 1957 that Imperial convertibles

re-entered production.

 

They come up for sale occasionally, and nice ones

may have realistic asking prices of $40,000 to $50,000.

It even has power steering that early .Cadillac had PS in 1952-3 if I am not mistaken .If it was not that I am in Belgium and that the car is not complete at this moment and that there are always parts missing when something is taken apart I would buy it.Also the $$ is very expensive  now and so the exchange rate is very bad also.

I'm never sure how to interpret the 1951-1952 Chrysler production numbers since the company classified those model years as combined totals, even assigned the same series number such as C54 for the Imperials.  The only confirmation Chrysler considered all C54 Imperial convertibles as 1951 models would be if the convertible was omitted from the 1952 Imperial sales catalog.  

Whatever the case, Imperial convertible buyers that year had to be hardcore, loyal Mopar men: the Imperial convertible was $440. and 11% higher priced than the concurrent Cadillac 62 convertible, which was the gold standard for luxury car convertibles.

Thankfully this car does not (at least not yet) have a set of Motor Wheel (or reproduction) chromed wire wheels.   They were not made nor offered from Chrysler until the 1953 model year.

Wonder if it has the Ausco-Lambert disc brakes.  The seller states so little based on so few pics.

Sorry, John, but that is one of the cars I've never had. 

I've lusted after a '58 Imperial convertible,

and sold our '52 Cadillac convertible,

had '51 and '52 Chevys, along with dozens and dozens of other makes and models, 

but sadly, no '51 Imperial convertible.

 

Many years back I did drive a '52 or '53 Imperial sedan while delivering for Associated Auto Parts on Elizabeth Ave in Linden NJ.

Geoff, because of the workings of Facebook, you have to have an account to access the ad and then can only send a message to the seller through Facebook.

Unless someone can explain the "2040 Cars" sales website to me, I am beginning to think the current advertising for the Imperial is a scam.  The following has been up on that site for some considerable time.  2040 has never responded to me on any of the few inquiries I have made.  There are never prices at 2040.

Certainly that is the same car.  Except it is said to be in Swanzey, New Hampshire.  At 2040 the pics showing background would appear much more like NH than the area around Tulsa, OK.   "In Swanzey", the bumpers aren't bolted onto the car.  "In Tulsa" the bumpers are in position.

 

Maybe both ads are a scam.   No response from 2040 and no response from the current ad.  No way anyone buys that car THAT I CAN TELL.

 

Interested in what y'all know about 2040.  Also feedback on my thoughts above.

I think you have two different issues...

 

The car is listed on Facebook presumably by a private party by the name of Bob Geiger.   Looking at his listing, I see only two brief recent posts - if he exists he is not an avid user of Facebook.  He has this car and an 18-wheeler truck cab for sale - however, the first time the car was posted for sale was ~3 yrs ago.   If he doesn't respond to messages, he can't sell the car (if he in fact owns the car) - he has no photos of the car on his FaceBook page - but - he does have pictures of the 18-wheeler truck cab.

 

I presume you may have found the www.2040-cars.com website by doing a Google image search.  There appears to be no active content (i.e. The BLOG) since 2014.  If you seek reviews of the website - you see everything from poor service to being an alleged hacker site.

 

So, I presume the car is no longer for sale on the website you found --- and sending messages to Bob Geiger on FaceBook is the only (albeit slim) chance of finding out whether he does in fact have the car to sell.
