1909 Maxwell LD

Recommended Posts

There’s always interest if the price is right.

Doesn’t your friend have a price in mind?
It’s far more likely the seller will be offended by what they consider a lowball than to collect a windfall if they choose not to post an asking price.

And nobody likes to contact a seller just to piss them off.

Well, most folks, anyway.

Yes, but they have a figure in mind, people always do, even it it's too high for the market.

Get them to tell you the number and post it, even if it's a crazy number.

Looks like an older restoration in decent condition, but whether it runs or not is a big factor in value.

A discussion about a similar car not too long ago on the forum stated that these smaller Maxwells might  bring 20K to 30K, but if it's not running, and an inspection shows any issues, then think more like 16K to 18K at most.

Even then it's not an easy car to sell, as a lot of people want a larger, higher horsepower, car.

The LD makes a perfectly capable car for 1&2 cyl tours.  Common enough that some knowledge and parts availability exists and generally reliable. They are quite popular with the Maxwell crowd due to their aesthetics vs the a, ab, and ac models. I think trimacar more or less has the value range nailed on the head. To get to the 30k mark it would need to be a nearly perfect example in form and function, but a tour proven car that was tired but presentable could still be over 20.

these cars have a 2 speed planetary transmission and not a tremendous amount of power to keep you using high gear on a large hill. That said, they will climb anything in low.

Please include me in the pool of interest.  Send a Private email here...

Ken, newcomers to the forum cannot send Private Messages,

for junk-mail and security reasons.  He should provide some

contact information here.  However, I think he can receive

Private Messages from you (but probably not respond that way).

Ricky, it's important to give contact information (such as a

phone number) in this thread--much as you would do with

a classified ad in a newspaper.  You may get interest in the

Ford Thunderbirds as well.  All the best to you with your sale!

An opposed twin. Is it a dry sump? I'm thinking that the tank is an oil tank. Looks like a neat car.

Might be dry sump but wet pavement below (total loss system)

it is total loss but has a plug… owner gets to decide when to dump it… unless he waits to long… then it goes out the front or rear main.
