Recommended Posts

I have tilt wheel column to add to my 64 Riv. And wood wheel - I have original horn bar but is broke and has been repaired  (repair didn't last long). I will be purchasing a new reproduction horn bar.

I do need R cap and hub-  I here they are hard to find.

If you don't ask -may never find. Any leads also appreciated.    Thanks Mike

Sounds like another reproduction job for the Turbonator!

I have the parts you are looking for.....it's a long story so bear with me.....I bought an entire

wood wheel setup 7 years ago and had to restore the whole mess....nothing was good enough to put on the car

as it was. The horn cap had been rechromed by someone and they didn't get all the little pits out of the brushed

metal ring that surrounds the Riviera emblem on the cap. the "R" bezel in the cap was perfect and all the chrome was perfect on the cap except for a few little pits in the brushed area . To see these pits you have to be two feet away from the cap or closer...

looking through the car window it looks perfect. I had paid 1300.00 for the whole setup when  I bought it plus I had to purchase a repro horn bar (mine was broken) so when I got done I had 2200.00 in the project after paying to have the steering wheel wood redone.  I put the steering wheel on the car, but the

little pits in the cap kept bothering me (I am a perfectionist when it comes to my cars) so I began a several year search for an

unrestored horn cap that I could make absolutely perfect. I  had to buy  another wood wheel setup to get an unrestored horn cap. The reason I had to get another cap that was unrestored is that to rechrome them you have to drill out the rivets that hold the spring ears and the bezel on the cap and then to  reassemble it after chroming you have to epoxy it back together, so you

only have 1 shot to restore it.....you can't go back later and rechrome it again. So I had the second horn cap off of the second wood wheel setup I bought rechromed by a pot metal specialist and it is absolutely perfect in every way, so my whole setup

is  flawless now but I have 3600.00 in the project now. I still have the horn cap with the tiny pits in the brushed area, and the second wood wheel I bought had a very nice hub with nice original chrome on it.. this hub looks very nice, has all the horn contact hardware on it and is only missing two of the screws that hold the steering wheel to the hub (A new set of these screws could be bought at a hardware store) The hub is very very nice and the horn cap is extremely presentable. Oh and for some reason the horn cap only has two attaching ears on the back instead of the three that they came with but it snaps right

on very tight to the steering wheel and works fine.....I had it on my car for  three years before I put the perfect one on. I'll sell you the hub and the cap and an extra repro horn bar that I have that hasn't been chromed yet....very nice, just needs to be chromed for 800.00  including shipping to the continental US. Here is a pic of the horn cap you would be getting mounted

on my car's wood wheel.......

You really love your car to perfect your steering wheel and having to put $3600 to get it there.

I'm guessing i will have $200 -$300 into rechroming your reproduction hornbar.(have not taken anything to chrome shop in years)

I talked to a friend  today and showed him the break om my original horn bar and said the repair thet was done was performed incorrectly.

He thinks he could fix it correctly and I would still need to rechrome but it does have the fine details since its  the original.

Or possibly get rechromed one from Gene in P.A.

On your cap -with the 1 of 3 broken hold down tabs it STILL stays on firmly? ????

Hub with few bolts missing - minor issue

I do appreciate your response and think getting a hub and cap 1st. And then decide which route to take on hornbar.

Just started my search for hub and cap- went to Buick Nationals few weeks ago and will be going to Lisle ,Illinois  BCA in June.

Thanks Mike L.

Winston, this because of the epoxy'd spring clip or that it is a dye cast piece?

My search for a nice 1st gen. Chrome Master Switch Panel w/deluxe interior has not been successful. Considering cutting a vent hole switch in my spare if I could find it and send out for re-chrome. Not sure if at all possible. The ribbed section appears daunting.

It's because there is no way to dissassemble it after it is epoxied. As stated previously, the cap stays on very tight

with the two clips holding it on......I had it on my car like that for 3 years. The bill to chrome the horn bar would probably be about 125.00.  I had all the pits fixed in my horn cap and had it show chromed and it only cost 150.00..........no pits to fix in the horn bar.

I'm getting ready to leave for the Riviera meet in Branson.......When I get back a week from Monday I'll post pics

of the horn bar and the hub and the cap. The cap looks very presentable, just not perfect like the hub. I also have a nice

wood wheel if you need that too......very nice with no cracks. By the way, the picture in your avatar shows a Verde Green

Gran Sport, not Seafoam Green.......do you have two 65 Rivieras?

Yeah that's an old pic I chose when I became a member, not mine. I actually have two but one is being sold to my buddy. I'm keeping the GS and restoring it back to it's original glory!! The paint code indicates it's originally Seafoam Green, it has been repainted since. It has the deluxe green interior also, like yours.

I'm going to put every option possible into it that GM provided back then!!

But before I make the leap I need to get rid of some of my late fathers collect of GM cars. image.jpeg.5893009361174b0b2c8c29916ea9d335.jpegimage.jpeg.d5f3a1db13b5b23866e4916388688a53.jpeg

You will love the Seafoam Green Paint........every show I go to someone tells me how much

they like the exterior color of my Riviera......I never hear that regarding my other cars, which are

red, yellow, white, purple, orange, etc.

Bob,I'm looking to rebuild my horn button. It's in good shape except the clips on the back are missing. Any lead on where I can get three new ones?

Thx

Don't know if you can use either of there.     The large Riviera is 3.25 in diameter,  the small tri shield is 2.18

I have about 50 of the large ones and  20 of the small ones.   They are new, taken from new hub caps which I modified

to fit another vehicle.

$3 each plus shipping

Rebuilding the horn cap is not for the timid. I’m not trying to use a scare tactic to drive you to buy one of mine.

I’ve had an original apart and reassembling is not impossible, but you only get one chance to get it right on reassembly. Have you thought how you will remove the current clips and secure the new clips? Until you’ve answered that question you run the risk of messing up.
Since disassemble the horn caps that I had manufactured to refit with the Wildcat emblem I do have experience.

Now truthfully what I find hard others do it with no problems. Something’s I do others won’t try like square two digit numbers in their head.

I do not have any extra clips. When I disassemble I need the clips to reassemble for the Wildcat.

Bob - Are you reproducing the wood wheel horn buttons now?

Is the photo you posted a prototype, or are these available now, and at what price?

Thank you,

Oh, zi do take trade ins. Some gents are offended I would suggest such a thing. I would compare my repro to an original all day long. Depending on how you view things s trade in could be good or bad. I’ll send out a repro with your trade in and $100.00. I’m offering an option for you to consider. If you like the option fine, if you don’t like the option that fine as well.

thank you

Bob

You know I rag on others for poor writing. I plead guilty for not writing better. Let me re phrase. The repro horn cap is $399.00 with no trade. With your trade in horn cap  you would send in $100.00 with your trade. I think I’ve got it right now.

Welcome back from Argentina.
