Don's son West is our AACA editor and the apple does not fall far from the tree.  Don was a huge influence on the hobby and drove the heck out of his cars.  A real pioneer in the hobby and one of those unforgettable characters.

Don Peterson was definitely an icon in the classic car world. I was always impressed by the fact that he believed in driving his cars, not having them sit in a garage somewhere only to be hauled around in an enclosed trailer. He seemed like someone who was friendly, down to earth, and liked to have fun. He certainly lead a full and interesting life, and the antique and classic car world will miss him. My condolences to West and the rest of the Peterson family.

Our heart aches to hear this sad news.  Out thoughts and prayers are with West and the family.  Don was one our hobby legends and will always be remembered.  West, if you are able to read this through the tears, take comfort in knowing he was proud of all your accomplishments.  What a great way to honor him by what you've done over the years.  God bless.

I only met Don twice but I greatly admired his passion for owning and driving cars of importance.  West, so sorry for your loss. Know that many of us were touched personally by your dad's work and his collector's spirit.

Don lived not too far from me and invited me and my wife over to see his cars. His basement was full of cars, I particularly remember the boat tail Packard. He was a great guy.
