Very common in those days to try to fit a 1940s car into a 1920s garage. I imagine that is why the patches are there.

ericmac
I like it. This Era Buick is my favorite. I've been looking for the right 47-50 Buick for several years. Yours looks like a good one.
Skvitt
Thank you. That was a reason why I jumped on it! Good condition and right price. Had to drive 3 hrs one way to get it, but it was part of the fun😊 Can't wait to starting taking it apart!. Just have to finish my other project - 85 Corvette to free up garage space. Pulled out the radio. Getting the new set of tubes and capacitors. I know, that is not where you start restoration, but that is the only thing that fits on my bench right now😊 Edited July 21, 2021 by Skvitt (see edit history)
John Bloom
I’m looking forward to following along with your adventure with this Buick. I really like it.

Skvitt
Power wash revealed the original color - Cumulus Gray. Horn brackets bolted and then welded? Strange.
Bill Stoneberg
They were not welded originally. At least not on my 1950 Super.
Skvitt
A bit of the progress over weekend. Trying to reduce overall length so I can work around it in the garage.

Skvitt
Continued on "length reduction" today. Removed rear bumper.
Skvitt
Can anyone tell me if there was a rubber bumper in outlined area? Otherwise the screw serves no purpose.
Skvitt
Disassembled the bumper and discovered a problem. Rust thru holes in most difficult to repair spot. I guess I'll have to brush up mu TIG skills.
Skvitt
Next step will be removing fenders. Have no idea how to remove rear ones. They are bolt on, but how to get to those screws?
Skvitt
Today I removed left front fender. No surprises. Metal is in good shape, except for rear bottom corner, there is bondoed patch and I had to cut those bolts off.
Skvitt
Body behind panel is in good shape to. This car looks much better than "77 Bronco where I replaced almost 80% of sheet metal.
hursst
Beautiful car! Great progress so far, too. That's the way to do it. Attack it immediately and keep the momentum going. Are you going to go with the original color, or go with something else entirely?

Original is Cumulus Gray. I think I'll go with grey, but a bit darker. Perhaps metallic. Not sure yet. Still couple of years to decide 😊
Skvitt
Not much progress lately, decided to clean up the carb. Ordered repair kit from Mikes Carburetor Parts, waiting for arrival.
hursst
Good to see more progress! Try to do a little each day, even if it's just taking one screw off something, it's all forward progress and it all adds up. Looking forward to seeing more posts; really like your car. I they grey, in what ever shade, is a great color for these cars. I know I don't have a vote, but I would vote against metallic. Something about the solid look to a non-metallic car from this era. Keep the updates coming.

I'm thinking non-metallic too, something in a darker shade of grey.
Skvitt
Last evening was nice and cool , so some progress was made. I wanted to remove that rear fender, now was the time. Firstly, I removed that patch, expecting a big hole behind it, but there wasn't.
Skvitt
Of course some holes, but looks like nothing serious.
