Guy I knew a guy who bought a Datsun roadster and a Stanley before the auction. Rode down to check out stuff going to auction and trailer back the Datsun. This car was sitting in the back side of a barn in a sort of loafing shed. One side against a rock foundation the other was barn sash windows. Couple guys trying to start it. I checked it out. Frightening in every way. We where loading the car out in the yard. Heard them cranking it then she started. The noise was incredible. Looked up and saw every window blowing out. What a scene. I knew then I was going to the auction. Studebaker M-series (1941-48) truck chassis with body by Hercules-Campbell. We are now over 515 pages and 600.5 k views. A lot of effort and time by a lot of people from all over the world. I am quite pleased of the fact this thread has been and continues to be so well received and active. It proves that there is still such a very strong and intense interest in all vehicles made prior to WWII. Plus so much that has been shared that none of us even knew existed. Please remember and be so thankful to AACA who provides the venue for all of us to see this HISTORY . We are learning so much - not just from the focus of the vehicle in the photo BUT what is in the back grounds, the buildings, architecture, signs, lamp posts, fences etc. and the people too - the style of clothes etc. A visual journey to the past Once again Thanks to all of you. Without it all the stuff I've posted over the years would be in the file cabinets seen by nobody except myself an the occasional friend I'd email a copy to. Fun to see a photo of a car and realize you have a photo taken from the other side that nobody else has seen, keep posting that stuff and add to the story any info you may have. Bob, this is exactly why I started it all. Sure people see the photos/images I have in the stories I pen but while that is great many do not take the publications I contribute to , and some publications although offered material do not then publish same because of the Editor's choice. The Wisconsin Special was in the Zimmerman collection back in the 1970's, that info on the HAMB feature had a lot of interesting racing history, thanks for the link.
