Reg Evans
I took my recently purchased '39 Windsor out for a first night time drive. Oops.....the headlights are very dim even on the high beam setting. What's a cure, besides cleaning all connections, for this besides converting to 12 volt ? This car is turning out to be such a good driver that I'd like to use it at night too.Anyone have a sure fire cure ?Thanks,Reg
28 Chrysler
Make sure you have the correct bulbs. They should be #2331I have seen cars with whatever bulbs that fit stuck in for headlight bulbs.
Guest Bob Call
Be sure all wiring is in good condition, connections clean and tight and correct bulbs. There is no reason to spend the time and expense on a 12V conversion. A 6V system in good condition is perfectly fine.

Rusty_OToole
Good wiring and possibly a relay close to the headlights. If they are not sealed beams it may be time to replace or resilver the reflectors. There may be halogen bulbs available.

StillOutThere
Go to the Uvira Plating website.Absolutely agree: Uvira plating for the reflectors and a good ground. Far better than what the car had new.
Reg Evans
I wonder if aluminum foul with the shiny side out might work too....or some of this here chrome tape.
Rusty_OToole
No but thanks for trying. If you can't afford new or resilvered reflectors sometimes it is possible to make Model A reflectors fit. They are about the cheapest repros available. ArticiferTom
Check for grounding in old reflector age and contact corrosion affect . I've seen reflectors with ground wire sodiered on to bucket .
lozrocks
Check the bulbs first. I fixed one a few years back with 12 volt bulbs fitted to a 6 volt car.
Spinneyhill
Remember the ground = earth is through the panel work. Make sure it is all connected electrically. To test, run a separate earth wire from engine or chassis to the light housing and see if there is any difference.
