Guest Mary Van Dyke
Could someone please let me know if you can identify these 3 cars? I am making a Family History Book for a friend and these old photos are of his mom's car (2 photos attached, one side view and one front view), her father's car (with the dog in the back seat) and an unknown relatives car (the oldest style). Thank you, Mary Edited July 24, 2013 by Mary Van Dyke (see edit history)
keiser31
The last two photos are of a 1930/31 Ford Model A convertible coupe (Ford guys may have a different term for it).
Guest Mary Van Dyke
Thank you Keiser! I forgot to mention (if it helps date the one w/ the dog in the back seat) that Mr. Walker (the driver) passed away in late 1925.
Dave Henderson
The top of the Model A's radiator shell (no painted insert) and the 2 piece splash apron (see seam straight down from the front edge of the door) would make it a '30.
Layden B
Oldest one is probably a one off, may have been something from a truck manufacturer trying to get into a bus type offering.Second seems to be a Barley 1923-24.
keiser31
I would guess the highwheeler to be about a 1910. Don't know the make.
Leif Holmberg
How about mid 20s Roamer (second picture )with those foot steps.Leif in Sweden.
keiser31
How about mid 20s Roamer (second picture )with those foot steps.Leif in Sweden.I don't think the radiator looks Roamer/Rolls Royce to me.
TheMoneyPit
Did Kissel have step plates like number 2?
ron hausmann
Although it has step plates instead of a running board, it's not a Kissel. Radiator shell, lights, other things aren't kissel. Seems like a huge wheelbase too.Ron Hausmann
hddennis
Chandler built some sport models with step plates instead of running boards. Howard Dennis
keiser31
A lot of cues point to Chandler except for those 1/2 height hood louvers. That Barley looks closer to the car in question.
Guest Mary Van Dyke
I paid attention to what everyone has been pointing out on the touring car in photo #2. I'm looking at the radiator cap, the steps, the way the front wheel splash guard meets the lower side panel (that the steps mount to, the way the front splash guard is shaped--no room for a spare there); the way the back wheel splash guard is shaped at the very back of the car, the way the engine cover/louvers are shaped, the way the handle and the lock for the engine cover is positioned, and the way the wheels are not "multi-spoked" (if that makes sense) and then I found this website... 1924 Barley 5-Passenger Touring - Remarkable Vehicles I think you guys are on a roll with the Barley Touring models. keiser31
Sure looks like it to me. Never heard of a Barley. Thanks for the new information.
Seldenguy
The real oldie looks to be one of the city sight seeing buses. The construction look to be ca. 1905-1908. Probably by one of the obscure manufacturers. --Bob
Leif Holmberg
I agreee with Barley, just wonder if any other cars have that rounded rear end of a front fender.Leif in Sweden
Ozstatman
"...just wonder if any other cars have that rounded rear end of a front fender."Leif,'23 McFarlan in the Nethercutt Collection appears to have similar rounded rears on the front fenders.
