  1. Thanks for the replies. I have located transportation and will let you know how it turns out. I will probably never buy outside of the US again. It is a PITA. Bob Smits
  2. The seller recommended "US Canada Auto Transport". Is anyone familiar with this firm. Thanks, Bob Smits
  3. Just purchased a car in Calgary AB. Does anyone have a recommendation for a transportation company. Several of the US companies do not service Canada. Thanks, Bob Smits
  4. If "thinning the collection" or "lost storage" didn't work on a certain group of buyers we wouldn't still be seeing it. It is meant to imply "I'm desperate". To me "inquire" translates to "I haven,t decided how much I can stick you for yet.
  5. I decided not to renew when I moved to Texas and discoverd that neither Houston or Austin would support an active cub. I have not missed the CCCA one moment. I joined VMCCA instead, more my kind of people. Just my TCW. Bob Smits
  6. Thanks for the update. Mine was a Sport Phaeton and won the AACA Presidents Cup in the early 90's. Ron Van Geldren picked out the color scheme probably after seeing your car. Al Edmond and I purchased a three car package from Ron when he went through a rough spot in his career in the late 80's. Interestingly Howard Scotland helped put the deal together. I still miss those two!!!!!! Bob Smits
  7. Like Ovalrace25 I towed with a 454 powered Airstream all over the country pulling a 24 ft enclosed trailer and classic Cadillacs . In 94 I switched to a diesel pusher and I am not sure it towed much better. It was more comfortable though. I admit the 454 had a Gale Banks upgrade and a Geat Vender overdrive which made it much easier to stay in the torque range. I would reduce the size of my trailer to the minimum length needed and install air pressure monitors on the trailer tires. Also upgrade from the standard 16 inch tires to the commercial 17.5's. Pulling that rig off to the side of the road for a tire change is a nightmare and if the flat is on the drivers side your life is in danger. By the way I still own a pusher and have not towed with it since I purchased a Dodge 3500 in 96. Just my TCW Bob Smits
  8. I was definitely looking at a 68 and their was no history on the rebuild. Too many unknowns for me. Even if I had been offered a large discount I would have passed. It is not the last train out of the station!!! Bob Smits
  9. Walker manufactured these jacks from the early 40's until sometime in the 80's when they were bought out by Lincoln. They are available on craigslist from time to time, usually for less than $100. This one is. A 5 ton which may increase it's value.
  10. No receipts, the presents owner purchased it from the rebuilder who purchased it with a blown motor. The present owner purchased it to resell and wants market value. I was attracted by the low milage but am going to pass unless I can buy it at a discounted price. It does sound good and run strong. I have had my share of "Crap Shoots" and don't need another one. Thanks to all. Bob Smits
  11. Looking at a 68 Riv that had oil pump failure at 44k and the engine seized. Placed in storage until 2015 when the engine was rebuilt. Has 1000. Miles on the rebuild. My instincts tell me that I should stay away as there may well have been damage that wasn't addressed at the rebuild and I have no way to gage the competences of the rebuilder. Would you be afraid of this senerio? Thanks, Bob Smits
  12. Thanks, I will feel better if I inspect the pan. Bob Smits
  13. I am back working on my 73 Centurian 455. Approximately 66 K miles and hasn't run since 01. Before starting it up do I need to drop the pan and check for sludge like I always do on the early cars? Also can the pan be removed without dissasembling steering/crossmember components? Thanks, Bob Smits,
  14. This may be a car I owned in the late 80's. Back then there were two 29's with identical paint. I need a passenger side view or a vin number. My car was a former Ron VanGeldren car with an interesting history. Bob Smits
  15. You will get a better response if you post on the Buick Forum. Finding parts is not easy for a Centurion although I think the interior is the same for the LeSabra except for some small trim items.
  16. George, the front clip on the series 75 and 90 are identical except for the grill, hood side panels and trim. Overall length is identical also. If my memory is correct the CCC has six more 38-40 conv cps registered than were made by the factory. David,I have been searching for a block since 1985. For 10 years I walked around Hershey with a sandwich sign asking for leads on a replacement engine with negative results. I have followed more false leads than I can count. I was told by Ron Van Geldren that production of the 40 model ceased because the factory had used up all of available replacement engines.
  17. John, there are no replacement 38-40 V-16 engines out there. People on the Cadillac forums have been searching for years. The Chevy was probably the only alternate available to get the car back on the road. If anyone knows of a replacement V-16 block let me know, I could use one.. Bob Smits
  18. Let's look at the bright side. Museums are a money pit and although ours was outstanding I would be surprised if more than 10 per cent of members have been inside more than once and yet 80K of their dues was being dumped into the museum yearly. AACA will be a stronger club and have better facilities because of this decision. THANK YOU Steve for all you have done for the club. Bob Smits
  19. Joe, I am 76 and just started restoring my 23 Cad 7p touring I purchased in 1978. My only advice is to start every day with 30 minutes at the gym. Your chances of finishing the restoration will improve greatly. Bob Smits.
  20. PM sent last evening. I will take both books. Bob Smits #821896
  21. If you are not on a tight budget go for the 17.5 in wheels. I have come to the conclusion that even the load range E 16 in tires are being degraded in quality over time. Also insist on electronic tire monitors on your tow vehicle and trailer. If you value security for your collector car the only way to go is enclosed.
  22. I don't even let my kids drive one of my cars. They do not appreciate them and don't deserve the privilege of driving one. You are crazy to think I would consider letting a stranger drive one for any amount on money. Just my TCW. Bob Smits
