  1. So it sounds like I may have stumbled on a CCCA fundraising opportunity....
  2. Does anyone know if the series of personal recollections from Bayard Badenhousen published in The Classic Car are available in consolidated form? They seem to have spanned a decade at least and were pretty interesting to read.
  3. Been said already but it is nice to see a sedan getting such a complete restoration. Cannot wait to see the finished product!
  4. New England seems to be the destination. I spoke with one of the BOD folks at Hershey who mentioned RI as a destination. Plenty to do/see either way, NE is not that big.
  5. @bryankazmer I see that now. Explains something I was wondering about. The 37 115 has a fairly stubby nose vs. My 40 110 which has a better proportioned hood IMO. Yet the sidemounts are not up in the air on this car. I think your right. 3,000 to 5,000 to fix? Gotta find the right fenders first.
  6. @Xander Wildeisen Thanks. At that price I could bring the whole continental kit to the scrapper next town over and get a nice lunch.
  7. I would expect a nice driver vs. a perfect car here, a few videos and a ton of pics on the site so you get some idea of the car. If anyone buys this please be from outside CT. On one hand, kind of cool that a friend downstate has a yellow 39 six, but that is enough. I don't really want to see myself at every local show...
  8. I like the black over red much better than the usual turqouise or red. Overall car looks nice. Would be tough to sell or trade that Continental kit off but I wonder what a good rear tri five bumper is today? I think I paid around $250 for a rechromed unit back when many were still on rotary phones.. say a grand or $1,500. Shouldn't be a deal breaker on such a nice car.
  9. This seems like a pretty nice car for the money. Earlier this week I commented on sidemounts on Jr. Packards and while I would prefer this car without them even the 115 carries them better in 37 than the 38 - 42 models IMO. A lot like our 40 but with 37 you get the little trunk and rumble seat. Legit CT establishment selling it: https://www.automotiverestorations.com/1937-packard-115c
  10. And I think hidden headlights. But very cool. Actually I think I like these as much as 61 - 65 Lincolns on the other end of the decade - but I think the Caddy might be better from a maintenance and gadget breaking perspective.
  11. I heard Brian Wilson reference them once in an interview as he went in there in the 80s or 90s to buy a Caddy and met his (current?) wife who was his salesperson. I guess it was a good day at the office for her. 😁
  12. Kerry good for you!! (Aftetmath!!) I would argue Richard Valle, AKA Big Elvis actually has a better voice and range than "The King" had. Best free show in Vegas, and the crowd is half the fun to watch. Yes grown women crying, etc. As to the car who doesn't love a triple black first gen fwd Eldo? But it will go to an Elvis fan before a collector. My guess is $100k. Won't need any sorting as a static display. A better fate would be a forum member grabs it for only a small premium and drives it like it was stolen....
  13. Let's put it this way Leif, if that car was in front of me for $16k I would get pen burn from writing the check so fast....
  14. Never been a big fan of sidemounts on the juniors. They sit too high imo and even the longer nosed 120 has a tough time carrying the look. By contrast this same money or less will buy a complete rust free - actually perfect sheetmetal - but apart 40 110 convertible. Marv King from Packard Industries is selling it, or was as of Hershey. I think $10, 11k would do it. Lots of parts in good shape and likely a lot of advice from an expert if one wanted it.
  15. No argument guys, would love a white over red or maroon interior 63 (same vintage as me) but ready to go please. 😊 About time these got their due price wise. Seems like the convertibles have been in demand forever, but I can recall $600 buying a nice slab side sedan. Then $5,000 forever, but not so much anymore!
  16. @edkthx for sharing - a jewell! Subject car may not be road ready but it is not the worst I have seen and, if one is going to look to restore as a hobbyist - best closed body style to do on thesr imho.
  17. Here is a local example in driver condition. Cool cars - you wpuld not likely see yourself at a show with one...
  18. At this price today you can get a phaeton in similar shape. Or maybe a roadster if you shop. Still not astronomical for an early open V8 Ford. Not too long ago this would have been a screaming deal. It should find a home though with a little give on price. The trunk would go next to my Model A trunk in the back corner of the shed though.
  19. Very cool but basically a heavy aluminum over wood body frame on a fairly heavy (for type of car) frame without the power to move it along. I love the look but the TR cars were just so much more agile. If I ever managed to get in the "dickey seat" I would likely be screwed and need to be professionally extracted...😁
  20. Here is a car the at home restorer could do ok with. Consider that Kurt Tanner Motorcars has a really, really nice TR-4 for $34k. Not terribly off the mark for a nice example and $20 or 26k spent over time might go a long way on this unit if using that as a rough value benchmark. Initially I would agree with your MGB comment AJ except if one puts themselves back to when the B was introduced it was actually a huge step forward for MG and arguably a bit more advanced than the TR was. It just became stale during the run when new and I guess a bit less collectible again due to the long run and clumsy approach to US regs. When you think about these cars in the context of when they were new which one would be a tougher choice I think. But today the TR would get the nod for me.
  21. John unlike a Full Classic or other cars, if the body is good and one assumes it needs everything mechanically it is a lot more predictable cost wise for a hobbyist. The TRs I think are even a bit easier on body side than an MG or AH as rear fenders unbolt. Minor rust can be addrrssed via remove and replace...
  22. I may have used that knowledge to soak a female passenger or two back in the day... 😉😁
