The other good news is younger people involved in supporting Model As like Ora Landis (Schwalm's), Pat Musante here in CT or Tebo Barn in NH to name a few are picking up where we have lost some of the old time A shops and suppliers. Long live the Model A Ford!

MG TD for sale - $7,100
Steve_Mack_CT replied to Leif in Calif's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
As projects go the green car seems a decent deal. Especially if one can do some bodywork and paint. -
My post was a bit humorous but I also hope they eventually understand a big dollar, distance buy via ebay is unlikely. If a serious local buyer wants to look and maybe make a fair offer that seems best all around. A lot of work but worse have been saved. Great body style IMO. If you do end up getting it we will have an interesting project thread to follow!! 😊

MG TD for sale - $7,100

Ha 0 to 60 eventually!! 😀😀 Have not experienced an MG club yet but I bet it was like the Triumph club I belonged to 80s, 90s. Lot's of driving and tech and we even had some very close to perfect examples. We even mingled with the MG folks a lot. 😉😀 -
MG TD for sale - $7,100

Love this one! Still hope to experience a T series one of these days... -
@TRMark thanks for your post - that is a long time with your TR-6. I let mine get away a long time ago (mimosa 73) would love to see pics of yours esp if you restored it along the way. Have you seen the "our cars and projects" section? Maybe not a hotbed of Brit car activities here but a couple of fantastic MG restorations chronicled there. When I was getting TRF catalogs in the late 80s it was amazing to me how many parts they had. I had no idea he started with one page flyers!!

Sticker Shock? Hagerty Drivers Club $70
Steve_Mack_CT replied to 9F94M567042's topic in General Discussion
I dropped it with the last renewal as I didn't see the value for me anyway at the $45 or 50 premium. Pleased otherwise as a 20+ year customer. -
Hmm, article must be referencing a son or other Runyon now in charge.
-
Yes sorry to hear this. TRF as it was called was my go to supplier back when we had our TR-6 in the late 80s. Runyon must be getting up there age wise - tough to see a life's work go up in smoke.

No, not sure they have changed that much over the years. Prewar cars, traditional hot rods, sports cars and a smattering of interesting cars across decades. What I am reallizing is the list of cars I would still like to own is longer than what I may eventually buy, if any more. A CCCA car is something I wouldn't mind, but I doubt we would do the activities I understand that club does. The right sportscar, an early open V8 Ford, an early Mustang fastback maybe or C1, C2 corvette would be interesting but it would have to be cool enough to warrent moving one or two of the others out - time, space, money. Usual stuff. I expect to give the A a cosmetic restoration upon retirement which is 4- 5 years out. The efforts Andy and others have posted keep my interest going in that department. Just had a pal who isn't active here reach out asking my thoughts on selling off one of his R107 SLs to move an early C3 into his mix. He is in his early 60s. After owning both I told him I get it but over the road the SL is a much better car. And think about entry/exit - try a couple on for size first if you can. He gets that but it is a car that has been on his want list forever. So I suppose never say never.

100 shares of Packard stock from my son. I may not be moving up my retirement date but a cool wall hanger! Hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Any car stuff this year?

Seat of the pants observation based solely on forum folk here. I know several who have talked about adding an A to the mix. Few or no A owners I know on this forum have or are moving their A along for something else. That said I did think I was moving out of As years ago when I traded our 30 tudor towards a Packard 120 sedan. The dumb move wasn't so much that trade but selling off a decent stash of A parts thinking I was done with them. I am still building it back up again after we acquired the 30 roadster 7 or 8 years ago... I like the mix of cars we have but would be happy with a couple of As as well. I always thought a fun roadster driver with some period banger speed parts and a restored closed A - maybe a victoria or a 31 slant sedan would be a nice combo. Mrs. Mack favors A pick ups. Then specialty tools, spares would support 2 cars vs. One. Projects are attractive to hot rodders which I think keeps prices up. Well merry Christmas eve and for anyone thinking an A would be fun do it in 2024 - you won't regret it! 👍😉😁

A nice thing about As are some predictability in terms of cost. An engine can be sourced from several reputable shops outright from around $3,000 - 4,500 but best to assume other mechanical needs. Tough to assess without it running. Too bad the engine is stuck vs. Just not running. With the simplicity of mechanical brakes, gravity fed fuel, minimal electricals, etc. A gpod car can be woken up and fpund to have minimal needs. 80% of the As that come put of storage it seems need a ton of work but now and then a r eal good one comes to market. We will have ours long term and I doubt I will buy another but I would look for one that has been set up for touring - OD, etc. Because it's a better bet the car is well sorted. Bear in mind $15 - 18k is the range for a decent running, decent looking 30 - 31 roadster these days. The yellow is polarizing maybe but available on the deluxe models. I don't hate it but prefer a few other stock colors on these A roadsters.

Ford Model A Steering Column/Chassis Paint
Steve_Mack_CT replied to Brandon1930's topic in General Discussion
You might pose this question on Fordbarn if you haven't already. My restored column is a gloss black which is carried to steering box. Not 100% sure that is correct but it was done by a guy who was known for steering columns a while back. I suspect it is right as that seems to be the case on most restorations I have seen. -
Last renewal cycle no way were they getting $30 or $32. I waited and only renewed when it got to $10 or $12 bucks. Felt I had to since I have been subscribing since age 14 or 15. Trimacar is right, the editorial content adds little value relative to my interest anyway, and once popular sections now barely fill a couple pages. Not sure I am going to bother now. While I agree print media is tough I am not sure they do much to help themselves either.

I think the stovebolt could use a little more love from collectors. Babbitt pounders, ok but an ohv design in the low priced 3 that lasted in it's basic form a very, very long time. I had a 39 that ran really smooth, and a pal who knows these engines really well. I like the 37, 38s but am really a 39 guy. People lump them in but 39 was actually a one year body. Still a very attractive car imo. Plus you get the rumble seat here - could only be better if it was a convertible- not offered in 39.

Through a tip from a forum member I was able to confirm the Canadian hobbyist who initially restored our 40 Packard 110 in the 80s - 90s. He has passed but his adult daughter is a member of the club he was active in. The car is mentioned as his favorite in a club newsletter obit that I found online. I have thought about reaching out but do not want to come across like I want anything which is why I haven't done that yet.

Some pics of the Horch from the CT Lime Rock Fall Festival 2016 or 2017. Looked good then. Cleaned up nicely!
