  1. Did they give you any reason why it cost more to shoot paint on that car over any other going into their shop? I think they were a bit greedy. I paid no more than the regular price, just did the prep as you described. I had them mask, spray sealer and top coat. I did the initial masking at the edges but they did the rest.
  2. Ok, Laugh if you want but what I am saying is true. Try it with a car that you don't love and then be surprised. The guy in the paint booth has done more cars than most expensive shops. I have had jobs laid on like glass or piano shine out of the gun and lasted many years. didn't even need to buff! The job is the prep work. They know if you care they will do a good job, as it looks great on their lot when others stop in. I am only talking driver quality jobs not show work.
  3. Oh Oh, better call MAACO! Actually they can spray a good job if you are willing to clean and do a bit of bodywork yourself. Only a few hundred dollars.
  4. My thoughts were mostly to take the car to the shop and let them finish the brake job.
  5. Time to go back to the brake shop and drive through their back wall blowing your horn all the way! Well maybe just let them put things right. The work they did should be covered or the lawsuit most likely will go in your favor.
  6. That photo, in that form, tho not colorized, has been around for at least 4 decades. I think it is genuine.
  7. Nice scenery in the video but I found myself getting dizzy with the pans.
  8. A good glass shop can cut you a couple of circles
  9. Once into the garage did you shut down and then restart a few times as a test?
  10. I have a '48 Plymouth and it is a great riding car and goes down the road at 65 all day. hard to beat at his price. It wouldn't take mucho make it pretty/handsome.
  11. I agree in not removing the head if not necessary, it only invites potential trouble.
  12. Make your own. Check out this modification. Go to page 2 and then the Post of July 27 2008
  13. I use the local glass shop. If they break it it doesn't cost me extra!
  14. Truing the commutator stops it from bouncing the brushes at speed and allows better generator action.
  15. The grease for a u-joint should be a semi fluid grease.
  16. Just keep an eye on the ammeter when you shut the engine off. 1 episode doesn't warrant replacement.
  17. The pilot only turns when the transmission input is not turning and the flywheel is turning. how many revolutions do you think that will be in your lifetime?
  18. I am not familiar with the Maxwell. If that is a pilot bearing, it gets very little real use (only during shifts) you might consider replacing it with a bushing as some cars use.
  19. You reminded me of when I worked at the San Fernando drag strip in California, my first real job in high school. I like the Indy 500 but have never been there.
  20. You tell us this but still we don't know what kind of car you are trying to fix! is there a reason for that? We won't laugh at you.
  21. Might need adjustment if mechanical, or maybe a hydraulic cylinder replaced if a more modern car.
  22. The loops you reference are to hold radiator rods that connect to the firewall.
