  1. Here is another place that makes reproduction tops from aluminum. Vintageand Classic Reproductions - Packard Parts If you want an old top, I can probably help you. Sent a pm
  2. Do you have a picture of what you are looking for? There was a Samson tractor and truck built by GM years ago, like in the teens or 20's. Information might be available from the Sloan Museum in Flint, MI. Here is a link with contact information. Sloan Museum
  3. What do you need for the tank parts?
  4. If I remember correctly, a few years ago I looked at the number of "white" paint colors GM had and the year I was looking at had like 14 different paint code/colors of "white"
  5. Tough call to say delete the Reatta category. Look at the number of posts and threads. Quick look appears it is one of the top categories for both posts and threads. Very popular and I do not own a Reatta. (even though I would like one)
  6. My first Buick was a 1963 Skylark Station Wagon with factory a/c. Drove it until I got a 68 Opel Kadet Station Wagon which I by luck purchased about 6 months before the first oil embargo. Could have sold that car for about 6 times more than I paid for it.
  7. One thing on cooling fans is that I seem to remember in the 60's & 70's there were a number of fan blade recalls because the blade would crack and become detached from the spindle. The cooling fans were replaced. For safety items, I would think there would be a leaning to the latest design.
  8. Ebay has a start if you can not find a nice one. 1920 INDIANA License Plate 20 IND IN Tag 260,838 - eBay (item 160465973563 end time Mar-06-11 06:13:58 PST)
  9. GM has the same kind of site. Here is a link to it. -GM PhotoStore
  10. My daily driver is a 98 Chevy Astro van with 231,000+ miles
  11. My new vehicle of choice is a Chevy Silverado Crew cab . :-)
  12. On my truck I run 50/50 water and antifreeze. It has done two or three good things. First it stopped the truck from overheating. Second I no longer have a constant drip from the water pump, and it adds corrosion protection. Just my experience and thought.
  13. Does the engine have a black mass air flow sensor located just after the air cleaner? If so start the car and then tap on the maf lightly and see if is stalls. IF so it is the MAF. Another common problem with those vehicles was the crankshaft sensor. It is located behind the crankshaft pulley and gets signals from the openings on the back of the pulley openings. And as always be sure to put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail to check the fuel pressure. If my memory is correct the low spec is 45 pounds. The car may start and run monentarly at the 45 spec, but it should be higher. Check a book for the specification, but I think it is in the high 50's for fuel pressure to run correctly.
  14. Here is a link that shows the tool. It is a Kent-Moore J-35640 PINION SHAFT REMOVER Google Image Result for http://www.costplustools.com/thumbnail.asp?file=assets/images/kmtj-35640_thumbnail.jpg&maxx=100&maxy=100 and one for sale KENT MOORE J-35640 PINION SHAFT REMOVER C CLIP - eBay (item 200566877435 end time Feb-17-11 12:52:09 PST)
  15. I will try to post a picture of the tool, but it will be tomorrow night.
  16. That is what I kind of thought was what happened. There are two or three options that you can pursue and in order of a perfect world, 1. GM made a special tool that looks like a large C clamp with a hole on the normal anvil end. You would slide it around the carrier and tighten the screw which would break the retainer pin that keeps the pinion shaft in place. You could then disassemble the rear end by removing the non retained pinion shaft and punch out the pin. I will try to post the "J" tool number and maybe a picture tomorrow. 2. You can try to drill out the retaining pin and use an extracter to pull out the retainer pin, but if you damage the hole that the retainer pin goes into by going off center the carrier might be damaged. I would not do this. 3. What most experienced technicians do in this situation is to get a BIG punch and drive the pinion shaft that is being held by the retainer pin that had the screw head attached out the other side of the carrier shearing off the small retainer pin. This is what solution #1 does except it is done with a large hammer and punch. Hope this helps.
  17. Does the screw look like it broke off from the rest of the pin? On more current models the pin includes the screw threads.
  18. This was at the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance a few years ago. Neat piece.
  19. I do not think it can be wound by hand. There is an electric motor in the unit. Let me know if I can help.
  20. Jon, You have a couple of years on me, but not many on driving vehicles. A carburated car will not perform the same way as a new port fuel injected vehicle. Some adjustments that cover some of the shortcomings of a carbureted vehicle may not allow the vehicle to meet emissions. There is a reason that all manufacturers switched from carburetors to fuel injection. Performance, emissions, fuel economy, etc. There are just a lot of variables and this is another one to think about...not to dismiss to keep looking.
  21. It is great to have friends in this group even though I was called a farmer when I am a retired engineer.
