  1. Just a thought, but did you check the EGR valve for correct operation?
  2. Ok, Ok, I would right a question. I said earlier.....I was still using them to fix tubes in the 60's. I think the type that I used was called Camel patch kits. For clarification... The brand of patch kits "Camel Brand" I did not "hot patch any camels" :eek: That includes cigarettes as I do not and have never smoked.

That said I do agree with the many of the other persons that it would have been a better post card if it would have said something like.   6. Was it maybe a cash for clunker car that is just gettig into the pile? There were a lot of vehicles traded in on that program. Just a thought.
  7. Is that a cone clutch flywheel on the back side of the engine?
  8. I think salt is only part of the problem of the hollow sway bars breaking. The other part of the equation is the poor roads. Driving with all of the pot holes and flexing the sway bar all of the time takes its toll. IMO

  10. On a lot of those carbs the two mixture adjusting screw had covers put over them and the onlyway to get to them was to remove the carb and use a hack saw to break the cover off. Then reinstall the carb and make the adjustments.
  11. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it is an empty 6 volt battery box. Probably was used as a display to show customers how the batteries were put together.
  12. It finally went away, but barely. It got up to a warm(?) 37 later in the day.

  15. Bought a ticket and put my wife's name on it. If she wins, hopefully she will be happy and let keep working in the garage.
  16. The new serpentine belts make the turning over of the engine with a locked up component more difficult. More true on the old V-belt set up.
  17. The alternator that I had that seized up never gave any indication that there was a problem. It was charging and did not have any loud bearing noise. I just turned off the car one night and the next morning the engine would not turn over.
  18. The next item that I would look at would be the distributor. Might be a bad bushing, bad connection,... Just thinking out loud.
  19. I do not believe the 155 would be a problem. Historical variation between cylinders as I was taught is 10% from highest to lowest. I would look at an ignitition problem. Have you changed the plugs, wires, cap & rotor?
  20. The alternator can make it happen. I had that happen on a Buick Century (about 1993 vintage I think). I like you was surprised that it would stop the engine.
  21. 6 volt battery box with the plates & top gone.
  22. Ternsted Mfg was a division of GM until its merger into one of the other divisions I think in the late 70's or 80's. Don't remember which one.
