  1. That's a fabulous car...over priced? Yes. Still a fabulous car.
  2. The seller indicated in his text that the car originally had dual carbs but was changed to a postwar intake and carb setup. Personally, I like the car and share the seller's notion of driving it while working on it. If I had not already bought my very similar Cadillac, I would be all over this one.
  3. I am a living case in point to illustrate John's observations. Over the years I have owned twelve of these cars. Of the twelve I have had eleven convertibles but only one sedan. I have said many times I'll never own another but admit they are a car I lust after every time I see one.
  4. Here is one I would love to look at more carefully. These are nice driving comfortable cars to travel in. I would be happy in there...but maybe that's because I grew up in Kalamazoo where they were made. Even there, Checkers were not common sights.
  5. I agree that the styling of this era Lincoln is not as strong as the 61-63 cars but as a road car they are hard to beat. If this car is as nice as it looks the price is probably reasonable. I definitely sold off my '62 Convertible too soon!
  6. I recall an article that was in Car and Driver at about this time. It involved a top speed test of every car for sale in the US that could go double the double nickle. My recollection is there were not many that could do so. The usual players like top of the line Porsche, Mercedes and Ferrari, etc were capable of around 125-130 but US made cars were few. My recollection (don't hold me to this) was only the Corvette and the Firebird TA made the cut. It was a hard time to be an enthusiast of new cars.
  7. If this was a Colony Park wagon I would think awfully hard about it. I love these really big swan song cars.
  8. I think the car has great lines and, properly finished, could be the star of any local event. Given that the car is already a repop (fake) body if I owned it I would want to convert it to left hand drive, finish the paint, upholstery, chrome etc...then drive the snot out of it. But that would also assume I had 150 K to burn on a car that has, and will have absolutely no providence. Ah well...it's what fantasies are for, right?
  9. I too am really enjoying this thread. While I do not own a Chrysler, many of the tasks you are completing are so similar to the work I have to complete on my car that I am learning a great deal. Between the work on this car and what Matt is doing with his Lincoln I feel like I am back in another PhD program, albeit one much more palatable than my "day job" doctorate! Please keep the information flowing.
  10. Marshall, in my experience, was a very nice man. He judged my '26 T Multiple times. He was very fair and very knowledgeable. A quiet man, I hung on his every word. When he told me I had a nice car, and a good car, it really meant a lot. He'll be missed.
  11. I've seen this one (or one just like it) at shows, though the last time was about 30 years ago. The owner seemed quite proud of it and seemed to think he had increased the value of the car by creating a version even more rare than the original. As I recall a tremendous amount of time and work went into it...only to eliminate the hallmark features of the car.
  12. I live 20 miles on the nose from GCM. My dad and I started the Model T driving school and I still get out there 15+ times a year. I even have a photo somewhere of my niece and I sitting in the Gnomemobile set. I love the place.
  13. While this is a very rare T I see a lot of tidbits that make me think this cat is worth more along the lines of 30K than 55K. The water pump is a sure sign that it is not cooling properly. These cars are a bit of an acquired taste as they can be pretty claustrophobic to drive with the top up. I do wish the seller luck with this one.
  14. I happen to be in the minority here but I love Pilot Rays. I wish my 37 Cadillac looked good with them as I would have a pair on that car in a heartbeat. Yours looks great with them judging by the ad. I also really like the sporty blackwall look of the car in the advertisement.
  15. I share the same guilty pleasure regarding these cars. This one with left hand drive seems even better than the car that I dreamed about in high school, a RHD '37 Riley. I need not look at this again as I could fall to temptation.
  16. The theme song from the movie "The Gnomemobile" is running through my head!
  17. I would bet more money has been spent on that top and interior than has been bid so far. While I agree the interior looks a bit (okay a lot) street roddish, the quality looks good. As a driver, someone could get a heck of a deal here.
  18. I just showed this to my 25 year old son. He said "That's not...that's not, is it? Its...." and he could not formulate anything else to say for a moment. Then he said "You're not?...Not thinking of buying it, are you?" I assured him it will stay as far from us as I can possibly manage. Keep in mind, he is not someone who typically stammers. I fear I have permanently scarred him.
  19. If that wasn't on the west coast I would have already bought it.
  20. I would only want it if it came fully loaded with its intended cargo! On the other hand it would make a truly unique tow vehicle.
  21. Thanks for the compliments. As far as I know you are correct on all aspects of this. Kevin told me he made a run of these and the mold wore out. I bought mine 7-8 years ago and finally got around to building it. It really was pretty straightforward in terms of assembly and I think looks pretty close to playing the part.
  22. I have this posted on a model building forum but thought you might enjoy seeing it here. The model is a resin reproduction of one of the earliest model kits, produced by SMP that later morphed into AMT models. It is a very simple snap together/glue together model of about 35-40 parts. I added the windshield and top boot as well as the 1911 license plate.
  23. Agreed. Glad you are on the mend. Restoration of the vehicle often leads to restoration of the soul.
