  1. Hoping to recreate this someday soon....
  2. Hmmm, can't seem to find the pic right now but will follow up soon.
  3. I've seen them come up come Ebay occasionally. Not sure if NOS or not. Maybe Cadillac? Olds? are the same.
  4. Chris, I use Hagerty and had to claim an attempted break-in on my locked '89 Cougar here in Canada. An Adjuster came out, verified the damage and within two weeks had a cheque based on factory cost replacement parts. The process was not worry some at all. I think you will find they are not your usual insurance company and understand your car is insured to be fixed back like it was. My only problem is finding the correct door seal which seems to be buried in a warehouse somewhere and not in someones computer inventory.
  5. Very interesting sir. My wife and I went on a Mediterranean Cruise for the first time in 2012 and loved experiencing what we saw! Always means so much more to be there in person after reading and learning things in school. See, you might not have Route 66 there but abandoned coast road, Old historic buildings tied to economy and travel, you have my interest. Keep the pictures coming and enjoy the journey with Ruby!
  6. I can't offer any help on the actual procedures but would say, be careful of the true value in the purchase transaction! Recently, it was said on the news here that a local car guy (in Canada) sold a car to the US and the value was found out to be higher than reported. The fine was not disclosed but.... with today's technology, crossing the border in his future will be time consuming.
  7. Pilgrim, I have up till now been quietly watching and enjoying your progress on purchasing and now enjoying your baby. Looks like you might be the TALK OF THE TOWN, in this case the Island, with this impressive car! Enjoy and continue to have fun! On a side note, I'm a bit of a closet history buff and curious about the old building you pictured in the back ground. Looks to be very old construction / styling. There must be some stories about these kind of places? Anything interesting you would care to share? Doug
  8. Popping in to wish my fellow Canadian Buick collectors a HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Yes, this our weekend vs our US friends. We have to have some unique differences right? While taking care of some work around the properties needing to be done before the on coming winter , doesn't my friend pull up in his '53 Cadillac with another friend. He decided to stop by while out for a drive to see if I might be able to give him a hand moving some of his cars around in his garage. Asking if he could give me one hour, over I went. When I pulled up this is what I saw. He needed our help to move a 1959 Monarch he has that is not running so he can make room for a new lift. Fortunately 6 cars of the eight he has in there run under their own power so with those out of the way, plenty of room to push it around. With the black one in place, getting the running cars in was quick and painless. While Joe doesn't have a Buick in his collection, he is none the less, a 'CAR GUY' and it was a great way to spend a few hours this fine weekend. Hope yours is as fun!
  9. I so appreciate that John! Finished up dinner with friends tonight and we were talking about how it would be nice to go for ice cream in the Buick again. Yes that is the new goal, get on the road and enjoy her.
  10. Geez John, can I hire you? It might be worth the cost of mileage, fuel, a few meals and a motel to get you to finish up my brakes.
  11. It's two weeks since the wedding and with the week we have been having here, need to ask my 88 year old mother if I was born in a pool (there was a period when that actually made the news as a birthing method). Started raining Tuesday morning and yesterday (Thursday) the Mayors of Windsor, Ontario & Tecumseh, Ontario have declared a state of emergency as Windsor had about 4 inches of rainfall over a 14 hr period and Tecumseh had officially 8 inches in the same time period. There are currently 1800 homes so far (not including business) that have flooded basements, streets and property damage. I have been to my garage where the Special is (along with my other cars) and after cleaning out the trench I made last year and the bit of grading done, have been able to keep ahead of most of the water getting in and dampening the floor. Have the fan going to move air around just in case. With another two days predicted and the service systems working at max..... praying to be able to keep ahead. Then, my son and daughter-in-law is in Aruba for their honeymoon. Got a text last night that they are confined to their Resort Hotel for the next 24-36 hours because of Hurricane Mathew but have been told things should be OK. Lets see, rained on their wedding day, raining (hurricane) on the honeymoon, rained on our wedding day 36 years ago... Guess my other son had better be prepared!
  12. My '58 Special does this too and I know there was a spring on the linkage to the firewall at one time which, if I'm correct, some one here found a service memo that stated this was to correct this issue. look at the top of the linkage at the firewall and see if there is a hole in one of the arms. I'm not at the car right now or would snap a shot for you. My spring is missing but should be able to show you later what I mean.
  13. So, last night had to cut the grass where I have the Special and afterwards decided I'd better try and start her up. Since it has been awhile, the battery was low so jumped with my spare and fired with a few turns. Let her warm right up, idle for awhile and left thinking I need to keep at her when I can. It would be good to go for a ride before the winter sets in....
  14. Back in 1994 when I had my Special in RM Restorations here in Ontario Canada to put on a new convertible top they had a 1958 Buick Limited 2 door in the shop to do a "complete" correct interior. This was from floor the carpets to the roof liner, seats and door panels. When I asked the shop foreman just what something like that was going to cost (since I had one identical to it) his short answer was, started around 10,000. That was back then and much more than just seats and they did do concours work but ...... Way out of my financial ability then (and now). I since have found a couple of small shops here at home that do auto upholstery and going to check them out this winter and see....
  15. Good day. It is Tuesday September 20, 2016 and popping in for a short report. Ever wonder how sometimes things just work the way they do and for what reason? My son's wedding was this past Saturday and wouldn't you figure, it rained all day! Even had the Special been on the road, the top would have had to be up therefore being really awkward for a bride to get in and out of so.... while the car was missed, all in all, we were all together inside and had a good time! My son made arrangements with an old classmate of mine who owns a Limo Service and what a unit it was. The ending to the weekend was sitting under our neighbours canopy on Sunday and looking west we could see a break in the rain clouds. Within 30 minutes the sun peaked out and shone on us as if to say, the world is right again. With my 92 year old father there who was able to say Grace before dinner, life is good!
  16. Well it is 7am Wednesday September 14th and the Wedding is virtually here! Was finally able to get caught up with the business demands but have had NO time to devote to the Special! With a weekend forecast of possible showers on Saturday maybe it was ordained? Will see how the "honey do list" goes today..... might consider pulling an all nighter in the garage as a last ditch effort but? Surely won't be the end of the world without her but would have been that 'special' touch for us all. Meantime, with my first born getting married, getting family all together for the first time (the oldest is 103 and Dad is 92 and so on from my side) there will be enough memories and hope all will have a good time to remember. The new in-laws are coming in tomorrow night and with having spent a great day with them earlier, looking forward to making them feel at home. As with our wedding 36 years ago, the day will go by all too quickly, but I plan to have my trusty camera to capture the action as much as I can.
  17. OUCH! Wishing you the best on the repair and the diagnosis. (Trust your wife is being a sport about this....bless her - been there)
  18. Nash's, you either love them or.... Here is my 1951 Canadian Statesman that Dad bought in 1968 for the pricely sum of $500.00. It wears it's original paint and upholstery while still having just over 100,000 miles on it's flathead 6. I'm the fourth owner and have documentation that it only saw one winters driving it's whole life! It is a great riding vehicle (although needs the overdrive with the 6 to keep up with modern traffic).
  19. Good eye keiser31 but no - LOL! That is part of the donated vehicles to the car club I have belonged to since the age of 12. Hence, collecting is in the blood....
  20. Like someone else posted, I collect parts for my collection but on the non auto side, I have a model RR that fills an 11 by 17 foot room. What my wife finds hard to believe is if that wasn`t enough and I just had to have this:
  21. Like Ben, looking forward to your adventures and pictures. Wishing you much happiness and success on your trip! I live 5 hours due east of Chicago and did the trip to Phoenix and back in my parents 1968 Meteor station wagon in 1977 so truly looking forward to "riding along" with you. My sister graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe and needed to bring home things she had amassed while there so the wagon was elected to do the trick. She also had her car there to load things up but.... it was a early 1960 Covair sedan which really didn't hold to many big things. I won't hijack your thread with all the details but thought I'd let you know this is going to be fantastic to relive my adventure through yours! Thanks for sharing.
