  1. Not having done this personally, like buick5563 stated, can imagine it might be a trial and error type adjustment. Hoped the scan might at least give you an idea of what to do. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Let us know how you make out. I'm sure you will have great satisfaction by doing this yourself. Doug
  2. Ben, While I am posting from the body manual of my 1958 Buick for you I can't imagine the process is that much different to your doors/windows. I will caution however the manual goes on to detail specific models of the '58's so getting a Body Manual for yours would definitely be an asset. It is good that you are looking at aligning the windows/vents as mine were bad like yours to the point if someone slammed the door too hard, the passenger window broke on me twice! When I replaced the top at RM Restorations (years ago) they insisted the top worked properly and they would do all the window alignments. Seeing what little I can of the fender / door gap on your car I'll bet with the adjustments things will look better. Good Luck.
  3. Jim, Looks like you have your answer to the manifold plug and appreciate TomP for posting that information! I can only confirm what Buicknutty and Beemon have stated about it being an additional exhaust port when it goes.... My Special has the two barrel intake and while driving it actually popped out. What a racket! By the time I got her home and removed the intake to see what was the problem, the exhaust heat had burned the paint off the valley cover. Back then without internet and dealerships saying it was too old to have parts, ended up taking it to school where the class auto instructor used it as part of his teaching. It was sand blasted, dunked to remove the carbon and at first tried to press the old plug back into place. He (we) tried a bit of air pressure and found it still leaked so he arc welded it in place. It still is in place today but figure I better order a few spares to be prepared! Would hate to have it pop out on the way to the National this year......
  4. I still can't post any pictures I copy and paste from the memory card of my digital camera to a picture file on my Accer PC without first resizing them. That is my solution so far.....
  5. Actually it is "G" scale and yes that is a '58 friction Roadmaster convert I picked up at a Trade Centre years ago.
  6. Came across some of my G Scale stuff in a box at home yesterday. Dad built the steam engine (wood) and case for my son when he was about 70 in his wood work shop.
  7. In a symbolic effort to start the New Year on the right foot at home, Spent a few hours back in the basement at the clean up and came across this in a box. Then I assembled that work light and as stated on instructions and John's warning, it does generate some heat. Definitely will be a step up from my old trouble light.
  8. I have an 11 X 17 foot room filled with a walk into HO layout that I need to get back to at some point. They are never really finished but mine only got to a point it ran fairly well and the landscaping was only just touched on. Then.... I acquired a Garden scale set from a fellow 1953 Buick car owner (did not become a member) I knew, sadly after he passed away quietly and his wife knew I dreamed about a backyard set up. It still is in boxes but the flat car holds a model of a '58 Buick Roadmaster Convertible. Then....... Me and three others purchased this with big ideas right before 2008 hit..... It is a 3 foot narrow gauge gas engine, friction drive to sprockets using chains to the drive wheels. Near as can figure built between 1918 to 1926. Everything turns but is not running or track laid.... A project for retirement? Posting this the very last day of 2016.... HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
  9. Several years back I was at a Buick Chapter Meet (won't mention which one) and saw an "NOS" right front '58 Buick fender with 250.00 marked on it. I asked if open to offers and was very politely answered sorry no. Went on that day finding a few small things here and there meeting fellow BCA Members till time came to head home. As I went out by the vendor with that fender noticed it was still there and he had crossed out the 250 and had 125 on it. Not sure if he recognised me or not but pulled out 4 20's and asked what do you think? With a short hesitation and saying he didn't want to have to pack it up and haul it to the next swap meet, took the money. I very gratefully shook his hand!
  10. Great Thread! You guys are giving me some ideas. Now, maybe we can convince Larry Schramm or Dave Dandy to do one with their antique Buick's? I'll bet most have never experienced the ride in those old cars (trucks).
  11. Went to a local annual swap meet (2 hrs away) and came across a tail light lens for my "58 Limited in decent looking shape. Asking about it expecting to hear how 'rare' they are and the usual high price he would want, actually stated he did not know what it went on. This has the four bar pot metal chrome pieces that are one model only items hence the high values. Decided to be up front about it after a bit of conversation and he asked if I would be willing to pay 35 dollars? Handed him 40 bucks and said DEAL! That alone made the whole trip worth it!
  12. You mean it will generate some heat John? Never had one before. With things at work quiet right now need to get paperwork completed first but... hoping to steal some time before the official end of the year comes about so..... You can bet I will record the event when it happens!
  13. JEThopmas60, Sure looks solid enough a car to start with and glad you recognise starting slow will be your friend in the long run (ask me how I know). I bought my '58 Roadmaster a looong time ago and believing I could do the restoration myself in a year well..... With the front sheet metal off, likely the motor is stuck now (it was at least running before tearing into it), here she sits.... (life will get in the way sometimes) Cut out the headliner (saving a piece for a pattern), trim the loose hairs off the windlace, find an inexpensive set of seat covers or even just put throw blankets over them, get her running dependably and see where you want to go after that. A moving drivable car will inspire you and keep that excitement going! Oh, and lot's of dryer sheets will help some with that 'old car smell' in the mean time. Keep us posted.
  14. Victorialynn2, My father-in-law (may he rest in peace) was power of attorney and executor for his three "Old Maid" Aunt's. When the last one had to finally go into a nursing home he decided to have a reputable Auction Company come in like Auburnseeker suggested. You have to understand that the family was a large French Canadian one and most felt they were going to come in and take what they felt they wanted. The house was in an old section of the city and was like going back to the turn of the century (think 1900's). They even had an icebox in the back room/porch they called the "summer kitchen". Once it was explained to them the proceeds were going towards the cost of keeping Aunt Marie in the nursing home, things calmed down a lot. It was not quite as successful as he would have liked but... like antique cars, are they ever really? Wishing you and your Dad all the best.
  15. I'll agree with you on "knowing what you want and need" for the job it has to do and if you can hold down on the loaded up version should be somewhat cost effective, that's all great Carl! In my particular situation that wasn't available to me and was disappointed at the size and differences from my 2011 somewhat basic truck. My neighbour has the 2016 diesel Ram with automatic, fully loaded and sadly the computer system is fraught with many issues the least of which, while driving down the highway, it will suddenly flash that there is no fob present..... It has been in and out of the dealership so many times that he is getting another Ram to replace it. Not picking on the Ram particularly (there are things with many makes) but reminds me of the days when if you bought a new car and problems came up with it, was said on the street, it was either made on a Monday or a Friday. I understand technology and manufacturing has come a long way for sure but to the original post (and taking into account what others have said about safety costs) still wonder if a basic truck is missing the market some?
  16. Trust everyone had a good Xmas! With all our family managing to be together (even though work schedules played in the equation for the kids) we were blessed by the fact Dad was up to coming to our home and enjoyed a good turkey dinner. Even Mom (who just turned 89) seemed to enjoy the afternoon / evening and I felt comfortable watching her back out of the driveway heading for the relatively short drive home. The weather here went from frigid the last two weeks to 57 degrees Boxing Day and had a thought in the back of my mind to go out where I had the accident and look around to see if by chance, with the melted snow, I might find my cell phone. Well..... don't I find it and the loose battery way down the way likely due to the snow plow pushing it up onto the grass! While it has suffered some damage it was a relief that the sim card was still there with all my contact information! Now, after I attend to changing out a dripping valve in our kitchen tap and some year end paper work, with my new halogen tripod work light my one son gave me for Xmas, will see if I can get on the brakes again. He made the statement that I shouldn't have any more excuses..... Don't you love it when the kids are right?!
  17. Went to Princess Auto to take advantage of a pre Xmas Sale and came out to see this. Wanted to talk to the owner to see if by chance it happened to be one my Dad owned but... the Holiday time is limited when things are left to the last minute! Hope everyone is having a good Holiday Season!

    Whitewalls???

Dad's 1928 Whippet Cabriolet Coupe. Likely didn't have white walls from the factory but.... After taking 28 years to do an amateur restoration in his garage, Felt it made her pop.
  19. Ed, Have passed it on, Thanks. I know all too well about shorts under the hood! Definitely not a great experience... Gotta Keep those Buick's alive and well.
  20. Had to rent a truck recently (long story) and my only stipulation was an 8 foot box. Met the rental guy and walked out to find this. WAAAY overkill. This land yacht I think is longer than my '58 Buick Limited?! Nothing "basic wheels" about this: 5.7 L gas Hemi, 4 wheel drive, Dash that looks like the cockpit of a 747 or bigger?, heated front and back seats, power this, power that, video in-dash back up camera, and on and on.... I'm sure it is waaay more than my house cost me in 1985. The guy said it was just below half and he filled it up costing 85 Bucks Cdn. Call will be in first thing in the morning for something more realistic if it can be had this time of year.
  21. Met with the Adjuster early today, agreed on a Collision Shop and was supplied a truck to rent while the work on my truck is done. Talk about overkill! It's all I can do at 6ft 4inches to get my cheeks onto the seat with out running boards.......
