  4. 1937-was thinking the same about renting an open jeep-but dont see that in NJ-would like a week to test drive one and pay the rental fee.
  5. camping is 99. bucks a night? now if that aint a kick in the pants............................!
  6. regarding Ed and Hershey- couldnt agree more with you Ed. I have very little interest in attending Hershey any longer. Yes, it is a great social for many of you, but regarding parts and cars- I see less and less each year, and the vendors are dying off............ again, just my observation and yes, 30-40% of the spaces are empty. some of that can be attributed to being taxed by PA. who wants to be bothered? certainly not me...................... you earn 300. bucks on selling some old parts and the taxman visits.............. ebay is much simpler and I find far more-yes, times have changed-not always for the better. ps Disney is a rip off!
  7. dually isnt worth the hassle, unless you are pulling a horse trailer. also get better traction in snow from a single wheel. -dually is a pain through toll booths and parking. dont forget the tolls, dually in NJ costs 12.50 to go over PA bridge-single wheel is 5. finally, GL parking a dually in the city.................!
  8. John is spot on, as usual. I drive a 5k pickup though and put all the rest into classics and antiques. You can find very inexpensive everyday drivers like my ugly 93 taurus for 1500. that has 50k original miles. it takes me anywhere i want to go or need to go and I have a triple A policy that allows me one 200 mile tow and 3 100 mile tows. have never needed the towing, but worth having. between the truck and taurus- always have a good vehicle to run and then the rest of the cash goes to grins! brass, woodies and the rest....................
  9. I have bought and sold many old tires- generally only for a roller or to putt around town with. obviously not safe to go 50 plus mph on the freeway. as they say-there is an as- for every seat!
  10. wo mentioning names-there is a plater in VA that does work like yours-he is downright cheap and that is why. around for years and listed in Hemmings.......................
  11. Yes but if they don't stay competitive all those jobs will disappear anyway. (they are sitting on a boat load of cash-as you mention) and if the chocolate is cheapened repeatedly, who will want it? Nestle and Mars come to mind as competitors............ NY already closed all of it's doors to manufacturing. nothing left in this country but intellectual property rights and the chinese are stealing that as well.
  12. Matt and Benjamin-last two posts x2! couldnt agree more!
  13. "Here's a cautionary tale. Friend of mine sold a '28 Cadillac to a buyer in Europe. Buyer asked my friend to "fudge" the bill of sale a bit to lower the buyers import tax. Almost a year later friend came home to find a business card from US Customs asking him to contact them immediately. He asked my advice. I suggested he tell the absolute truth, which he did. Turned out the buyer had been under investigation for some unknown transgression and US Customs was asked by French Customs to interview my friend re the transaction. We never did figure our exactly what was going on though I doubt it was a simple case of attempted tax evasion. Be careful out there". exact same thing happened to me- I prodded the customs guy and what ended up happening, is that the buyer loaded the gas tank of my 450sl with cocaine, and shipped it. dogs got a whiff and nobody picked the car up over in Cheq Republic. someone must have been tipped off on the other side..... I was paid and it was of no consequence to me.
  14. Posted 16 hours ago · Report post I have sold two to Europe. One was a $35K car and the other a $65K car, not particularly expensive. Both were paid via wire transfers. In both cases, an auto transport company picked the car up here in my town to take to the port. All shipping arrangements were made by the buyers. I didn't have to do anything except keep the lines of communication open via email. The transport companies were instructed to have the actual driver call me on my cell phone at least 24 hrs prior to their arrival, and again two hours out. Both deals went smoothly. I think I would rather be the seller in this situation. The money was in my account via wire transfer for about two weeks before their transporter showed up. times 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I guess they are just like old cars--you can't have just one! sounds like chocolates to me..................!
  16. "As I pointed out in my previous post, I would not be surprised at a $20K or more bill for a quality paint job." and I think the OP would have been pleased as punch if your assessment were correct. He is paying double that and I fully understand his question of- is 25k reasonable for a nice paint job. In my book, that should have been plenty.............................. the car is a 70% er as a prescribed driver- with a 120% paint job on it. The paint job is far too fine for the quality of the rest of the vehicle............my opinion. So I concur with the OP but there should have been further due diligence on his part, before committing. Nothing more to say.......................
  17. It is always better for the community if they stay independent. The minute you merge, the faster you see jobs go away. always cheaper to consolidate. The new norm is for one person to do 2 1/2 jobs at companies these days. Everyone needs to be Superman. end result, is poor quality and companies leaving America. All been done before.................. products always suffer.
  18. offer 100. reward............... you'll gett them!

  23. you are right Auburn-the buyer is ALWAYS right with ebay, so might as well swallow the pill and move on. why I dont sell there anymore and only buy..................
