The Gold Coast of Florida..........here is our fall foliage.........looking through the windshield of a Phantom II.

Why bother........if you want stock, keep it stock and make a gear set. Want a hot rod? Then build one. It's a slippery slope.........a properly sorted Buick is a great driver......toss in a gear splitter.......and its fine for 99 percent of situations. Running an early Buick too fast isn't a good idea. The bakes, suspension, and steering are not designed for 80 mph. It's why many of us own several old cars.......different cars for different applications..........trying to make ANY car do what is wasn't designed for is a bad idea. Driving it in it's sweet spot is where it is at on all pre war cars.......a high speed rear or gear splitter is fine if your only trying to bump up the sweet spot 5-7 mph. After that.......you should buy a different platform.

In so many ways I still stuck in the 60's. Hell, I'm stuck in the mid 30's!

It’s fifty times more complicated than you can comprehend........pay an experienced shop to do the work. Yes, we have made and manufactured similar items in the past. Testing to destruction, heat treating, ........the issues are endless.

1927 Franklin four door for sale 2000
edinmass replied to M&M's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
If someone hauls it away for free.......it’s a fantastic deal. It’s not even a parts car.........let it go so the parts can save others. There is NO money in what is left. -
Matt.....looks good. I just ordered felt from McMaster Carr this week to do the new White as we sort and service the car. The rear felt seals were missing. It’s an interesting comparison from the car that sat 80 years, to the one that was “active in the hobby”. The 17 was a pleasure.......nothing had been touched for 100 years....the hobby car has been hacked at over the last 60 years. Some work was well done, much of it was not. Fortunately, we have overcome all the issues.........making a new air compressor because some on tossed it was a bummer......lots of work, and expense. I can’t drive a car that is incorrect or incomplete. The correct magneto and the compressor will cost in the five figures by the time they are on the car.........my only satisfaction is a correct and historically accurate preservation. The next caretaker will have a car twenty times better than I started with. My only hope is it continues to be driven and displayed long after I am gone. Keep at the Lincoln.........👍👍👍

1942 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet.......Thoughts?
edinmass replied to lelshaddai's topic in General Discussion
😎 Who said I race fair? All I have to do is swerve into the side of the Lincoln at the starting line and continue driving forward.........you strike me as the type of guy who would get upset, then stop and get out ad look at the damage. 😏 To be honest......I think the White is faster.....than the three or four I have driven, but it is going back 30 years........... they were all very High point or show cars.......... in fact and I’m certain I didn’t pound on them. -

1942 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet.......Thoughts?

Well gentleman........we must agree to disagree. If they were that great of a driver, their value would reflect it. I could only further opine by dumping on them......and that would accomplish nothing. I think it’s sad that a car that was always considered special when it was new, and had a strong following now can’t find a new generation of owners........at almost any price. With luck, a new generation of collectors will pick up the ball and run with it. -
Mike, click on the above photo 1911 - 1927 Loco thread......

Amelia is much more today than 15 or 20 years ago........I don't do everything, but there is enough to keep you busy from Wednesday to Sunday.

It sure is funny how cars find their owners. Oftentimes it’s a more interesting story than the car itself. Both of my White Motor Cars came about and into my garage by accident. Wasn’t looking for a car, and certainly didn’t need one. That said, I have enjoyed my White Motor Car journey and it’s still getting better every day. I always say, good cars keep getting better. That certainly applies to the two cars. Best part of owning them? Twenty new car friends, many close to my home in Florida. I have visited the new group of people at their homes, driven with them on tours, met up with them at Pebble and Amelia………all in just 18 months..….and I expect a life long relationship with most of them. Most of the White Motor Car collectors are eccentric or unique……….and so far, none of them have been “normal people” like myself………😏

1942 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet.......Thoughts?

These Lincolns have always been special since new, and for decades had a strong club and following. I don't know about the club, but the market for them is as close to zero as you can get in an old car. It's unfortunate but just a fact. Drive one......a good one, and you will run out and buy something else. Yes, I have driven and worked on them. They are poor drivers at best......drop in a 50's Cadillac conversion and they are fun weekend cars. If I am going to deal with any V-12 it's got to be worth my effort.......and the tiny Lincoln 12 just doesn't cut the mustard. They are a great "first car" for new people getting into the hobby that want something different and have a tight budget......... ask yourself this question.........What great or semi great car collection has one in it..........I can't think of any. -
It's Amelia........Pebble is a different animal........apples and oranges. Both are fantastic, try it and you will like it. Give me a ring, and I will show you around. Ed
-
Just mention my name..........they won't let you in, but you can start my tab with your credit card. 😉 Actually that's not fair.........it was covid that caused them to keep people out this year, it's all back to normal next March.

Alan......nice to see you here again. I was thinking about you when this thread and particular car popped up...........👍
