  1. Just buy the rebuild kits that are offered. It’s very easy to plug the vent channel............don’t overthink a 1915 design. The thing is open to atmosphere 98% of the time, no need for any type of sealer. Look here....... http://www.classicpreservation.com/vactankkits.html
  2. I think it’s more of an excuse to sell you service. Back in the 30’s, not all fuels were equal. Spraying water with a bottle into the intake easily cleans the engine. Using a torch in a V-16 Cadillac? Better make sure your valves are closed. Could also damage the head gasket. I would pass on this service.
  3. George, please ID the source....and edition if magazine. Thanks. Interesting that it states two years ago, we committed to a four........that would be sometime in 1914.........which makes sense with the 1914 & 1915 engine casting dates. Best guess is war production cut into the speed that they developed the 16 valve. Going in a better direction! 👍👍👍
  4. When driving a 16V4 White speed, if you didn’t have religion before you got in it, you will after you hit the brakes! You will also begin to talk to yourself! Been there, done that.
  5. “Hollywood Dandy Dave” and the famous speedo and flip flop look.......... it’s still burned in my memory, like 9/11!
  6. I found two things I absolutely needed......both made of unobtainum...........no complaints here!
  7. Thanks George, I have seen that in the past and printed it out......but didn’t get a chance to post it.

Hello, interesting project to consider. The link below is to a history of a body company that made bodies for many companies including Franklin. I think the type of construction they used would appeal to you and your son.......without the need for many special metal fabrication tools and equipment. Detailed study will show you they were an interesting company that made many special and unique cars.......that lend themselves to being hand made.........good luck, Ed. http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/w/weymann/weymann.htm
  9. A interesting side note...........growing up in Springfield Mass, there were several key companies that were part of ever day life..........names like Crane Plumbing, Westinghouse, Chapman Valve, Ludlow Manufacturing, Smith and Wesson, and.......American Bosch. Bosch was in town for over 150 years, closing in 1986. Smith and Wesson announced they were going away last week..........after 150 years also. Most of the families I knew had members working in all these plants......the jobs literally built the towns and infrastructure here.........and now they are all gone. A sad legacy of American manufacturing moving overseas for cheaper labor...........here is a fun advertisement for “The Bosch” as we referred to it...........I’m about as young as you can be and relate to all those companies today. My grandmother started in the mills at 12 years old..........the oldest child of 19. Things sure do change!
  10. That car is on the road for three weeks. Driving from Hershey, to DC, then down through Virginia and into the Carolina’s. Owned by a well known collector. Great car, being used as it should.
  11. The 1934 Pierce brought ALL the money. It’s an eight, and a factory body. Well known and documented car from new. It’s always been a good car, and always been on the road. This was the second total restoration done on the car. I thought it came out well, and is very tasteful.
  12. Thanks George, I know it’s the second generation of the original. The upgrade was to make it waterproof. I have this..........
  13. Just a bunch of plastic.............with an unlimited supply, only the guys waiting for their new toy will be disappointed. Hopefully no one hurt.........modern iron or in this case plastic, only life and limb matter regardless of value...........same applies to early stuff.......except the historical value lost. Just like the 1929 LA auto show fire.......this one will live in the new generation Vette legend.
  14. I think the estimate is light..........2 plus is my guess. What’s half a mile among friends? Another private J sale recently of a closed car at numbers that I would expect to be about equal to this offering. The J market is on fire........sure wish I owned a few!
  15. The switch in White number two as shown above was available and being used by Cadillac in 1915 for their new V-8. I also found a 1915 White sales catalog for 1915 at Hershey, showing the 4-45 series and 6-60 straight six series were being offered by White in 1915. The catalog was beautiful, multi color hard bound, but missing two 1/2 pages that were cut out, and it was six hundred dollars, so I passed. The interesting thing........the catalog showed the ignition switch on the steering column on the 45 & 60 horsepower cars like my 1917, so the setup on White number two is definitely not standard for White in any year from 1915-1917. I have no clue if the in dash vibrator works on car number two......yet. Now that I have the correct magneto, we shall see. Also found a much more appropriate tail light for the car, and I will remove the mid 20’s truck tail light currently on the car.
  16. Found the impossible at Hershey, again. White #2 was missing the air compressor.......which we have made, and the correct Bosch Dual - Twin Spark Magneto. Found one Thursday...........and in good working condition. This unit fires eight plugs.........two per cylinder. The down side, I would pay a years college tuition for some young folks! PS- this magneto was used by Mercer, Simplex, Loco, and possibly one or two others, in two versions. The early units were not water tight and had issues, the second type which you see here is the “improved” model. With the above applications, it’s easy to see why they are so ridiculously expensive.
  17. Don, my family foot placed their footprints in Canada in 1605, and I’m the first generation that has had English as a first language. Canadian Rye is a birthright of the men in my family. 👍👍 Gaspe is our hometown,
  18. Lots of interesting cars this year.......seems a better variety than the last few. My cell battery is on the way out, so I didn’t take many photos, and none are worth posting. Of most Intrest......I saw several mid to late 70’s cars that had total restorations that were very well done. Personally I don’t car for any of the 70’s cars but several I saw could have been driven on the field at Pebble.........to see paint of that quality on a car from that era really made the cars stand out.
