  1. Hope it works out. They have done good work for us in the past and just last week we talked about sending them measurements to fabricate a stainless tank for a str**t r** project we are completing. I quess we will wait and see how your problem shakes out.
  2. I was intrigued by a very early 1 cylinder diesel bicycle engine I saw in a fellow's garage in Ohio. What was unique about it was the way it operated. No glow plug. Thru a linkage, as the bike was pedaled the combustion chamber became progressively smaller until the compression caused the fuel to ignite. Anyone ever see something like this?
  3. There are some young folks who still want careers where they can take pride in their work and want to see a car several years down the road and say "I did that",. It's not always just about the money.
  4. The white milk truck is a 1936 Thorne Gas Electric restored in the late 1990's.
  5. Is it the fact that I earned my living restoring cars that irritates the moderator? Believe me I am not on here trolling for work. We have plenty of work. AACA has been a large part of my life for 50+ years both as a hobby and as a career. My regret is that I can no longer function as a judge due to physical problems. If it is the policy of AACA that professional restorers should not post on this forum then fine, no problem.
  6. My topic title perfectly described the content, which was the hope I saw for the hobby/industry in this young person's interest. Was I trying to scam anyone? What harm was done?
  7. I guess my thread re a young female wanting to restore cars has been removed as click bait. Great way to drive away potential members.
  8. We were contacted by an older gentleman whose granddaughter is graduating from high school in a few weeks. She is very much interested in pursuing a career in auto restoration and was looking for someone to talk to her about the different aspects of restoration. We offered to show her around our shop and discuss what I consider the 3 pathways in restoration work. There is antique restoration, general body shop work as well as rod design and building with general body shop flat rate work being likely the most profitable. Will be interesting to learn where her true interest lies.
  9. Light 8 front fenders are easily identifiable if you post a pic.

  11. Unfortunately, large portions of this "diary" have disappeared in the last 60+ years. The lady gave us what she had which only amounts to 5-10 pages and they say virtually nothing about the car other than the continuously rising flat tire count.
  12. I drive the Lincoln Highway nearly every day. Of course that's here in South Central PA where the Lincoln Highway is a major thoroughfare.
  13. July 20, 1961 "We stopped Wednesday morning at some small truck stop and heard on the radio that a second astronaut was being sent up. We drove on into the Smokies. I don't know how to describe the old gnarled pines, mountain streams and waterfalls lined with rhododendrons and mountain laurel and the 5 bears which had come out to sun themselves after the thunder storm."
  14. They drove to Calif and back to Gettysburg. 13 flat tires! They left with $270 and returned with $25. 3 people and all their camping supplies in a rumble seat coupe. Now that was an adventure.
  15. Several months ago we purchased a garage full of parts and a body that was originally a Model A Coupe. The widow selling them mentioned that she and her husband drove the A from Gettysburg to Calif in 1961 and promised to send us their written "diary" of the trip. That "diary" arrived Saturday and I can't wait to read it. Will pass along any interesting gleanings.
  16. I owned and drove a ratted out 140 DHC for a year and a half while in college. Contrary to popular belief the car was very reliable and never left me stranded. Only car I ever drove really fast.
  17. If you are talking about steel clutch discs Ft Wayne Clutch can water jet cut you new ones. They have done this several times for us.
  18. Years ago I was told by a food vendor/friend that his space at Fall Hershey cost him $700/day. None of this money goes to AACA as far as I know.
  19. Years ago we had an employee who was a good worker but somewhat autistic. He often worked while singing "The Wreck of the Ella Fitzgerald".
  20. Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for.
  21. Year ago Dad was asked to loan a fellow $10 grand to purchase an antique car. Dad was to keep the title until the $10 grand was repaid or he could go halves on the car. Dad refused. The car? A Duesenberg Limo "barn" find.
  22. Where can I find a list of the cars and owners that won National Awards this year ? Not Grand National Awards. I mean the National Awards announced at the Annual Meetings and commemorated with permanent trophies displayed at headquarters.
  23. Friend of mine whose name many of you would recognize was tasked with delivering $40k to a seller of an antique car. Transfer was to take place on a Monday. Not wanting to leave the cash in his house while he and his wife attended church he put the money in his jacket pocket. You guessed it, he left his jacket on the pew. Luckily the pastor recognized the forgotten jacket and returned it to my friend intact.
